Part 1 was only half the fun...
Now that the ole' Chevy has quenched its thirst and running halfway decent, let's attack the classic P1345 CMP-CKP Correlation fault to make sure the "low power" complaint is solved for good.
How many horses can we squeeze from the fire-breathing V8 under the hood?

Funny I noticed the automatic transmission indicators in the dash just before you mentioned the conversion. Good deal keep them coming. Cute watch dog there too. ;o)

Whenever you get a P1345 it means the distributor is in wrong. Each tooth is 27 degrees. The distributor allows 7 degrees of rotation in either direction with the factory clamp. Skip White has aluminum distributors for cheap. Always use AC Delco cap and rotor with a dab of dielectric grease inside and out on the contacts.

@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics my rotor had just as much play on my 2000 express 5.7L. when doing lower intake gaskets, I took the cap off, marked the stem to the manifold, then the rotor to the housing with 2 marks on the rotor, 1 on the housing. Seemed like I got it lined up perfect, because the check engine light did not show. Cap n rotor contacts looked like crap, so cleaned em up. Van only has 53k miles, but wanted to do plugs wires rotor n cap. Should I get a whole new distributor assembly? I figured that little bit of slop is from factory, being that not a lot of torque is transferred through the gear, so tight gear tolerance is not needed

Good video. I am always in awe of your mathmatics, as I lack that ability lol. Even though the distributor is not adjustable, I have had luck ovaling out the holddown a little to get some adjustment.(Where the bolt goes thru) Keep up the good work.👍

Ivan i am impressed, you know your shit.. I think my dodge dakota was doing the sane thing, but the Timing chain was stretched beyond belief, it actually needed a crate engine..

You can always grind the hold down or use a older style hold down to get some adjustment but likely has chain wear anyways. Time to use that truck for the farm

The PRND321 on the instrument cluster sorta gives away the secret of it's past automatic trans. I need a Verus, seeing the timing degrees w/o a timing light is awesome :-)

+Ozzstar It could have an automatic pcm and cluster but came stick from factory. The VIN would say what it came with new though. It would be too much money and work to go from auto to stick. Someone probably did swaptronics to fix something and put in wrong pcm and probably cluster died sometime and only auto cluster could be found at a junkyard and had to make do with what they had. Just a possibility.

Good video but wrong distributor it's out of a 4.3 and someone put a 5.7 cap and rotor on it all 5.7 vortec engines have 5° of +&- on them if you 0° your crank on compression and set your rotor to the #8 mark that is stamped on the distributor you will be close enough to drive it but will need to make sure with a scanner your in SPAC 0° to 2°+ or - to keep it from throwing the p1345 code closer to 0° the better

Nice diagnosis. Just for a final test, throw a timing light on and check the timing (According to Mitchell's Emission Control Application Guide, timing should be set at TDC @ idle with the single wire EST disconnected).

+johnwrench4speed That's the procedure for the older GM bypass distributor systems that don't have a crankshaft position sensor. This truck controls the ICM through the PCM at all times based on the crankshaft position, so ignition timing is NOT adjustable by turning the dizzy. There is no EST wire :)

Nice job, Ivan. It's possible there might be a little power loss because of the Auto trans pcm with a manual trans. Different timing curve.

I did a auto to manual transmission in my 98 Chevy Silverado 5.0 and it has lots more power then it did with the automatic transmission It’s like a bullet My timing off one mine I don’t have no way to set it with a scanner but from what I here u are supposed to set the retard close to 0 from what I Heard but I don’t no really

Most likely it is a new assembly. Just made a rookie mistake of inserting the distributor into the engine. When I pull the dist on any of my Lotus, I will set the timing mark at the crank before inserting the distributor.

I am thinking this blazer i just bought started running really bad and shows p1345 code...it is 4.3 v6 with 198k..thinking gears on distributor are worn and it popped ot of time... does this make sense because now it wont start... thax

chungaleta1234 No inspections in Ontario but vehicles that look like that will eventually get pulled over by the police and have their plates taken off if they see the holes. Ha I wouldn't want to be the guy that said that truck was fit for the road if it got into an accident. Fred Flintstone floor LOL

Yikes ! Now the owner will see some improved gas mileage I'd think. The gas gauge sending unit seems to be worn as the needle pointer does go back to "E" once there's some fuel in the tank but it isn't steady. Noticed it moved from a 1/3 tank left to almost "E" as you accelerated so it seems to be done being accurate. Beautiful ride...love the air tight cab design. Thanks for sharing.

You can grind the shaft where the distributor lock rides. This will allow you to rotate the distributor to the timing you want. You will do this when the chain and teeth wear and retard the timing. This is meant to be computer controlled timing when all the parts are tight and new.

If anyone is having issues with the p1345 code and you can't get your cam retard right. You need to buy the hold down clamp that allows you to adjust your distributor. I have a 97 Tahoe with a 5.7. mine did not allow me to adjust. I borrowed a buddy's old snapon "brick" if you can't borrow one some scanners show the cam retard. Then you can adjust. Just lookup gm timing adjustment on 5.7 or 5.0 whatever motor you have

Ivan on the v8 the distributor is fully adjustable losses hold down and rotate the body of the distributor I noticed that that distributor had two flat spots on it at the hold down that tells me he got a distributor for the 4.3 liter v6 which isn't adjustable they have the same tooth count all the v8 I've seen are adjustable

+Eddie Martinez yor correct but on those distributors they have a tab to set them up a tdc the distributors come with both locations molded into them for v6 or v8 both the sbc and the 4.3 distributors are interchangeable I was talking to get it at 0 degrees parts store mix them up all the time they even share the same cmp sensor ckp sensor it's literally just two cylinders missing

+Eddie Martinez exactly. I have done that many times only problem usually the gears are shot being a plastic body distributor and the load of the oil pump causes the distributor to deflect from the cam and chew the gear just passing some knowledge

how can you advance the distributor 1 tooth and still line up with the oil pump?

The off-set drive in the end of the dist engages with the oil pump drive shaft. The cam gear drives the dist. and the dist drives the o p. Once the dist and cam gears mesh, the dist drive will engage the oil pump - as long as it is not too far off. If it is, a long screwdriver can be used to align it.

@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics ya you can crank tap it in with small bursts. Or you can use a screw driver. First time install of dist. Is a bitch. A punk bitch. After you get it right on your own the first time, its a breeze.
