Episode 22: Installing a trailer hitch meant for a Bolt EUV on my Bolt EV... yes they are different. But with a slight modification it fits amazing. Looking forward to towing with it soon.
Great video. I put the Drawtite 76525 on my 2019 Bolt premier, had to drill the same one hole, and for that I saved a few c notes. The Drawtite 76525 looks identical to the Curt 13495. On the wheel trim, used Harbor Freight plastic trim and molding set SKU: 64126. As noted, the 3rd snap-in fastener from the rear is tougher so use a steel trim tool for it. Where the bumper meets the quarter panel, use a plastic trim tool to push each connector in to release them one by one. To mark the hole, I put a dab of grease on the one stud and center punched the spot. Fit perfect but had to cut out from the bumper cover for the hitch on the 2019.
I love my Chevy Bolt. Why does anyone want to tow anything with an EV? Go get an ICE vehicle. Can you say truck? A Ford Lightning truck that is supposed to get 350 miles on a charge, only got 82 miles towing a small trailer!
Ev towing is still much more efficient than an ICE. I have a very large diesel truck that currently is the only vehicle that can tow my large trailer. It cost at least 50 cents per mile to drive just in the fuel/oil/def. If you included brakes even more. The bolt by comparison saves about 10 cents per mile compared to my 30mpg car which cost about 12-15 cents per mile. So even if electric towing cost 5 times more than normal it’s still significantly cheaper than ICE… and the towing characteristics of an EV can’t be beat. Instant torque is exactly what you want when towing.
@unfinishedbusiness2manyproject Did you read the test that was done with the Lightning? From 350 miles estimated, and only getting 82 miles after the tow.
I don’t trust all reviews. But it’s probably about true. Even in that case it’s 25 percent of original range. Instead of 2 cents per miles its 8 or 10 cents. So you are still at least 40 cents per mile cheaper. That’s huge.
Diesel for my truck in the cheap part of the country is still $4 a gallon. Plus def and oil changes which in a big Diesel engine is quite expensive… it adds up. If you do understand the math then I don’t know what else to say…. I do think ford “overrated” stated mileages so it will be interesting to see if the Chevy is built similar to the bolt which is supposed to have a very efficient motor if not the most efficient
