Hi! My 2013 Malibu has a check engine light on. I got it check at an Auto Zone store and got the code for the check engine light. The other day I went to use the remote start feature and the car would not start. After viewing this video, I understand why. Same scenario just different problem. Thank you.
Wait so does that mean my actuall remote start is broken??? Or is it just doing that because it’s another way of telling me that the engine light is on due to something that needs to be fixed?
The car is designed to not remote start if the check engine light is on for any reason. There are tons that things that could be wrong with your car to make the check engine light come on, but once its on the car wont remote start. This is not a malfunction it is trying to stop damage from occurring. Depending on what wrong with car you could start it and still be in the house while the car destroys itself outside. If you were inside the car you could turn it off if you heard some bad noises coming from the car.
Was the issue that caused the code to be thrown actually resolved? Or was the Colts just cleared? If the issue is not resolved you probably still won't get it to start maybe one or two times until the cold comes back in
Hello, yesterday I went to a verified locksmith to get two additional keys made for my 2014 Chevy Malibu. They used the current key to cut and program the new keys to my car. They tried it out and the two new keys work. I myself tried it and it work also, locks and remote starter. However, hours later, the remote starter would not work; not for the two new keys, the current key or the original manufacturer key. None of them are working to remote start the car. Then my check engine light came on which it was not on before the keys were made. Could the new keys have something to do with this issue? I will be taking my car to Advance Auto for a courtesy CEL code read. Thanks for any response.
I dont think getting new keys made would cause the check engine light to come on. I just got a aftermarket fob cut and I programed it myself with no problems. Autostart still works fine.
I probably wasn't super clear in the video but you can't just clear the code you will need to fix the problem that's causing a code to be thrown and my case I replace the intake and exhaust solenoids and then I cleared the code and it never came back that's how I was ultimately able to take care of the problem.
Oh I’m sorry my dude . Yeah I fixed the problem for the codes . So I clear it , then it works, then it doesn’t, it won’t read back another code. I should of explained it better my fault, but thanks anyways 👍
It may be some other issue altogether, but I definitely suspect the new computer is having some issue with its config probably with the anti-theft. It is really strange that it worked once then not working after that. I would try to get the car on a higher level scanner to see if it has some codes that don't show with otherwise.
Whatever caused the codes to come in will need to be corrected/fixed. Once fixed, Autozone or Advance Auto Parts should be a Le to clear basic codes for you. You really can do it yourself with a $20 scanner tool. The scanner tool I used in the video I bought at Walmart for like $24. I have a link in the description of the same kind of scanner on Amazon for $18.
I have a 2020 Malibu and tonight my engine light is on after my last remote start. Now the key fob won’t remote start the car since that last start. The My Chevy app took hours to update but it’s saying there’s no issues. I’ll be at Chevy first thing! My Cobalt took 11 years 139k miles before the check engine light came on. I’m on 16k miles in on this car and already smdh 🤦🏾♀️
On my car I had a problem with a VVT solenoid, once I fixed that the remote start would work again. Your car could have a check engine light on for several other reasons. The car would still lock out the remote start until the car is no longer throwing a trouble code(check engine light)
My 2015 Cruze is doing this same thing… i didnt know i had remote start until 5 months after buying the car i really noticed the button on my key fob. I used remote start 1 times, only for it to not work at all since. I understand that a check engine light will override the Remote Restart feature but i have not had a check engine light since buying it 2 years ago. I do know that my TPMS light has been lit on my dash for months. But after a-lot of research, that shouldn’t interfere with the remote restart. All 4 sensors went out and i was not going to pay $75 ($375) for each sensor to be installed. When i can buy 4 new sensors for $20 and have my local tire repair company install my parts for $15 a tire.. Anyways, my car is doing the same thing this guys car is doing… i tried to see if this car gets into valet mode- and did the reset only for nothing to happen. I then did the key in on positon 5 times in a quick row… nothing. What else am i missing! When i hold down the remote start button, i can hear a click sound coming from the front of the car like its trying to start. Help
Hook what up? If you're referring to the remote start. I'm talking about the factory installed remote start that's already on vehicles equipped with that option.
whatever is causing your engine light to be on you will have to correct that first. The car is designed not to start if its throwing a code.(engine light on)
Any reccomendations on where to buy a key fob that actually has remote start working on it. I bought 2 key fobs from battery plus that were supposed to have the remote auto start working on them. One did work but the other doesn't remote start. Everything else works on the car except for auto start with that key fob.
If you want to make sure your'e getting the real deal. You need to go to a Chevy dealership. It wont be the cheapest option you might find, but you will know what you are getting.
They all have to be programmed. That's 98% of the cost for replacement. You can do it yourself but takes about an hour. If I find instructions I'll update post
My 2008 malibu does the same thing it throws the same code 0010. I replaced the throttle body because the throttle positioning sensor is part of the throttle body . But it is still throwing the codes . What else could it be
I have a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, have the original remote starter, every time I change the battery, it quits working by the next day and I’m getting tired of going to the local Chevrolet dealership and changing the battery
When you change the battery does it then show a check engine light? If so you will need to clear that engine light trouble code before remote start will work again.
@@jpulley no. All I’ve noticed in the last two years that I’ve owned it is that I have pressed the button for the remote starter to start so hard I can’t understand why when I shouldn’t have to
I replaced the intake and exhaust solenoids, but that's a different video. The point of this video is that the car won't remote start if it is currently throwing a code. Not just the code that I had but any code that causes the check engine light to be on.
@@jpulley I gotcha man, just giving ya shit. Your word phrasing got me. Code is taken care of. Lol me being a certified mechanic for 9 different manufacturers including every diesel motor made it just cracked me up knowing what happened and what will happen in a few miles.
