I’ve never tried one but I’ve always heard they’re a pain in the ass ! Some things I just take it to someone that has experience. Lol. I was impressed with the alignment so I I know you know what your doing. Take care John
When that happens to me (a project I'm not happy with), and it does all too often, I mark it down as an educational expense. I could take a class at the local community college or trade school and spend more money or I can try to figure it out on my own. Plus I can usually salvage something... I did order the one piece headliner for my Nova. They said I might get it before the end of the year. I can't finish the roll cage until the headliner is in. Oh well, plenty of other items to work on. Thanks for the videos.
I know how it goes doing something for the first time. It never fails that one side of my car has a better installation than the other, simply because I learned a little while doing it. My 68 had the bow head liner. I plan on getting layers of foam like they use on Dave Kendigs show. I figure it will take multiple layers. I have some flexible blocks that I'll use some 80 or possibly 100 grit sandpaper and basically body work the inside of the roof. Then I'll spray glue on the foam and the material. Let those dry, then use a steamer to reactivate the glue so it sticks. Realistically I think I will need 5-6 people in total to do this. Wishing you the best of luck when you re-do the headliner (if you plan to) If you use the technique I explained, be sure and post a video. I'd love to see it.
The best way to do this is to use clips to hold it in place and get it where you want it. Then take off the front clips and apply glue and straighten it. then work side to side then the back. Also a steam machine would help with smoothing out all the material without tearing it. Understand this type of headliner was not supposed to lay flat on the roof. For that the roof would have to start out completely flat. Thanks for the video.
Love the videos man and appreciate the shared knowledge. I just picked up a 74 nova a few weeks ago and have been wrenching like crazy. All new painless wiring. Booster kit clutch kit and exhaust kit. Trying to look around to get the best deals on all the parts I need to convert the front to a 72. So far I think I'm looking around 800 for everything. Does that sound about right? Looking forward to more video. I subscribe this morning after eating all ur videos over the last couple weeks lol
Yeah I ordered all my inner fenders locks and power supply clutch master cylinder and alot of other parts from summit racing. Amazon has over drew my account a few times with stuff I didnt order so I try and not order from them anymore. Just seen the video where u got another 4 novas. Wish I could find a deal like that one.. I'm alittle jealous lol.
The headliner is a bow style conversion. I got it from classic industries. The sound deadening is original. Here is a link to the kit I used on my other car.
I have a 69 nova that i did myself. Its the bow type headliner. It came out pretty good. Had a couple wrinkles , because i actually stretched it to tight. I think mine had about six rods holding up. To hold it in place around the edges i used the big black paper clips to hold it tight , until the glue dried. Sometimes you just gotta spend the money, to get it right.
Installing headliners was part of my profession in the auto restoration field. I see a questionable product there. Weirdest headliner kit I've seen. I don't think I would have used it.. In my opinion , assuming the inner roof frame is the same in a 73/74, you would have been better off using the factory bows from a 68-72 and using a 68-72 body to get measurements to drill the locating holes in the correct spots along the inner roof side rails to install the bows in the correct locations and order. Then install a typical 100 dollar 68-72 style headliner in it with side earmuff boards..no foam needed. Factory type roof insulation optional. Those style liners are stretched with some tension and glued on the edges only covered by trim. Best option would have been to have an experienced auto trimmer install that for you. Some things you just have to take to the professionals to do. Your nova does look great by the way. I have a 64 myself.
Yeah. That kit isn’t great. I know that a pro would have had much better results. I can live with most of my DIY results but that one is bad. Lol. I’m going to get the one piece factory style headliner and replace it. Thank you for watching!!
It’s hard putting a headliner in a car with the glass in. Glass in, have a professional do it. Glass out, its pretty easy since you can pull it from outside the car and tack it where the windshield sits.
