I just recently got a Henry 45-70 and tried it out at the range not long ago. Absolutely love it, though I am going to get it outfitted sometime. If not this year, probably next. I love how that rifle is a takedown. Never knew that they made those. Speaking of Henrys and takedown rifles, I do plan to get one of those AR-7 Survival Rifles.

I did pick up a box of that ammo. I’m gonna go with 325 gr lehigh defense xtreme defense bullets long term though. Underwood sells them, I’ll get a few boxes but I’ll get a custom reload developed soon.

I have a little chiappa survival gun. It's not necessarily for big game. It's a 22 over a 410. But you can definitely shoot slugs out of the 410. No reason a person couldn't take down something the size of a deal.

Nice, I want to stretch it to 300 yards, for predator hunting so I need the optic. Adding the suppressor renders the low iron sites kinda useless too.

@@apex-livingwithpredators8379 Your setup is well thought out for your needs. I really like the take-down feature. You’re more of a hunter than I am. I’m more of a wilderness guy who wants to always have enough gun if the need arises. I simply love the small profile of the Chiappa when broken down. Not inexpensive, but a unique design feature that I’m willing to pay for. What do you think of Chiappa quality?

Have mine on order at my local FFL, can't wait to get it. If you don't mind me asking who makes the belt you used to wrap the gun. Looks like a heavy duty EDC belt that would work well for me.

@@apex-livingwithpredators8379 that's capable. Although lately I'm more leaning toward 9mm for anywhere in the lower 48 states. Because the more brown bear stories I read, you gotta hit brain or spine, or it will still get to you. A lot of people say 10mm, but it has a lot more recoil vs 9mm and it's not appreciably more useful to get through a bear skull vs 9mm - on a moving Target shooting multiple rounds. I went through this debate because I was about to get a Glock in 10mm. But now Im thinking I want a 5" m&p 2.0 9mm. Because it has the longest slide of anything that has no slide cuts and uses a striker, for mud resistance Because, who wants slide cuts if you drop your gun in mud? Terrible idea to have holes in the slide. And I don't like 1911. It's dated, and has high bore axis and high carry weight. 😂 Revolvers are tried and true, but I personally would never run a revolver, because five or six rounds on a charging bear just doesn't seem like enough. And now there are so many more wolves around. And 9mm with many rounds, is great for wolves. Or people. Nothing wrong with your choice, but its not my choice. Unless I move to Kodiak. 😂 Then I'll reconsider. Probably get a Glock 40 10mm if I lived in Alaska.but since Im in King county and rarely go in brown bear country, my conceal carry 9mm is fine for black bears. So that's what I run right now.
@apex-livingwithpredators8379
@apex-livingwithpredators8379 2 года назад
To each their own. Bullet choice is pretty important though, maybe more than caliber. 9mm just seems a little small to me, for bear defense. It’s a skeptical maybe with hard cast or monolithic bullets, like Lehigh defense xtreme penetrators or something. I run those for my 460, 50 Beowulf and 45-70. A 9mm with hollow points or FMJ ammo just isn’t enough in my opinion. You’ll probably kill the bear, but it’ll probably die AFTER you do, if it’s intent is to attack… The reason for using heavy cartridges with hard cast bullets is that you target an snap heavy body parts, skulls, shoot through that shoulder and blow it apart so it cannot continue to advance upon you physically, because it’s appendages are too broken. A 9mm generally won’t do that. I have a 8” barrel too, which leads itself to be more accurate especially in a high stress situation. With a short barrel sidearm it’s way easier to completely miss, just by slapping the trigger and not maintaining good shooting form as a bear is charging you. Personally, I’ll take my 5 round ultra high power revolver with heavy monolithic bullets over a 9mm with 18 rounds any day. To each their own, of course, but that’s the reason for my choice.

What was your total cost with the suppressor included?
@apex-livingwithpredators8379
@apex-livingwithpredators8379 2 года назад
Can’t really say… but the suggested retail pricing can be found in the Chiappa and bowers sites. That suppressor is the VERS 50, but they have another, on their secret menu, that’s rated for anything that will pass, .460 caliber and below. It’s called the dreadnought. That one has a retail price of $1200 but it’s the only suppressor you’ll need unless you have a 50 cal. I got the VERS 50 for my 50 Beowulf. It retailed for about $750 then I believe.
