I'm a carer for violent kids coming out of juvie. We are trained in de-escalation and rarely have to restrain a kid. The power of knowing how to talk. However, one restraint is called the small child restraint. It's pretty much holding them in such a way to not cause pain... like a big hug where they can't bite your arms or headbutt you. I never tell the kids the name as I don't want to shame them for not having emotional control. However, in a pub a small bloke was hitting a woman and then took a swing at my mate when he intervened. I restrained him and said, "This is called the small child restraint. It's generally only used on kids 12 and under." He went wild. Of course then his girlfriend kicked me in the head. Domestic violence relationships are weird.

Forgive my ignorance, but is that a pretty high rank in Jiu Jitsu?
@venems24
@venems24 Год назад
@@Vladpryde yes it is. To become a black belt in general takes years (like 10-12). He's third degree meaning he's gotten his black belt, then gotten another level to his black belt, and another. The Gracie's are the family that basically created what we know as Brazilian jiu-jitsu. So that means this guy got his black belt from some of the hardest MFers out there
@DennisTea
@DennisTea Год назад
@@Vladpryde There are 4 "degrees" to every rank, except black belt with 6. Each one is a stripe on your belt in a different color than your belt. The number of stripes is based on your skills in different areas. 6th degree black belt is the highest skill belt. There are 4 color ranks before black belt, and each have 4 degrees. There is also a red/coral belt after black belt, but that only requires that you've been an active black belt for around 30-40 years (depends on the school). It's more of a rank of experience or renown than skill. You will usually only see 60 year old men with the red belt. If you break it down entirely into degrees (without counting red belt), there are 22 levels in brazilian jiujitsu, and this man has 19.

@kangarooninja2594

@@Vladpryde In the US, black belts are given out as participation trophies, but in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu you have to have real skill and work very hard to get any belt at all. I myself have over 35 years of martial arts training & I only had to use it once when I was 21 years old , the fight was fast & over in less than a minute . When your in a quick fight you really don’t account for what’s going on or any damage you might take or damage you might do to others , it’s like your instinct kicks in , it’s flight or fight . Days later some of my friends that use to hang out with the guy said that I really messed the dude up , they told me I dislocated his wrist & his elbow & shatter some bones in his shoulder & gave him a big black eye , I had no account of ever doing that because the fight was quick , after a few weeks someone told me that his little brother was looking for me , but eventually it never came to that , his whole family moved out of town back to Kentucky & I never seen the guy or his brother again , my best friend wanted to let lose on the guy to , but I guess he had it out for me for some reason . My best friend was trained in Muay Thai & that guy is a beast , he use to kick trees with his bare shins like it was nothing .

It wasn't a sales pitch, just logical advice of don't wait until something bad happens. It is better to be proactive and have the skills needed to prevent something bad happening, or to help a bad situation not get worse. Simple logic. Only problem is that self defense classes and cost quite a bit. My sisters took Taekwondo for a while, then one got married and now they don't get the family Plan. The owner of the place did the best he can to make it cheap, but he does have to pay the rent etc on the building. While they where taking lessons, one of the girls and a "friend" that was a boy, and I am not sure about the whole story, but if she hadn't been taking lessons he would have assaulted her. He had her on the ground and they only way she got free was a move that they had recently learned. Probably saved her life too! So definitely not a sales pitch, just him trying to care for people.

this is funny as hell but those are sort of like real call outs. so flatten him like a pancake is like lay them down flat and get on top then he put him in like an armbar or some shit would be the pretzel. it's probably how they teach their student how to remember stuff.

...or just buy an handgun. If you live in the USA, that is. If anything warrants me performing bjj on someone, then it warrants a bullet also. Now a citizens arrest, like in the video, is definitely a good situation to us bjj. But in terms of self defense, get a carry firearm. You never know when you could run into a group of people willing to jump you. Bjj wouldn't help much in a 5 vs 1. But a gun will

As we are trained at work. "Minimum force, maximum care." This man did this very calmly without aiming to cause pain. No vengeance... just shutting it down. Had a situation near me where a bloke broke into a house. Two big new Zealanders inside took him down. They then gave him first aid, a cup of tea and chatted until police arrived. A gentleman can be violent but then should revert to care as soon as possible. "There are three things the wise man fears. A night with no moon, the sea in stotm, and the wrath of a gentle man."

I'm a retired vet with a big build. When I was an instructor of sorts, I always let the smallest student show the entire class I can be "dealt with" regardless of situation. I taught a shy new soldier how to sound like a bull horn and in front of all the students. This instructor is dead center. He has them disengage when possible, then go straight at the target when "all else fails". Violence is a surgical precision strike, not a bar room brawl.

It’s game over when your flattened out with a BJJ Black Belt 🥋 on top, hats off to this courageous instructor who took the matter in his own hands, crushed this guy. Too bad our prosecutors office won’t do a thing to this guy more than likely will be thrown out so he can go back out on the streets & do it again. Our state’s attorneys office is terribly understaffed, overloaded case work. We’ve lost hundreds of competent, hard working attorneys leaving the office behind in shambles.

- I worked at a small town 711 and didn't have to deal with real threats like that, but at one point a dude was getting pretty damn close to throwing hands due to his card not working. He was first sure he could do an IOU, then when that failed it moved to I should buy him the smokes and he'd come back, then it got more threatening. Luckily we had a homeless guy I was always cool toward who I would would mark the bags I threw out all the baked goods in so he could find it and other stuff like free coffee/soda within reason who came in and made it clear that he had far less to lose and would fight like it was as personal as it could get and there is just something terrifying about a guy like that telling you honestly that it will be to the death if he lays hands that most people start thinking better of. Maybe I shouldn't have but I did buy the guy his smokes after and he did come back two nights later and pay me. it was basically the only place for a long long distance you could get smokes after normal business hours and once he calmed down I figured it was an okay risk.
