Detroit homeowner shoots and kills armed intruder: Him or me 

He better not be charged with any crime at all! He should get an award.

I feel sorry for the homeowner. He didn’t wake up in the middle of the night wanting to kill someone. It’s a lot to deal with if you’re not a psychopath.

If the prosecutor dare to press any charges, the prosecutor himself needs to be thrown in jail..

It seems that the homeowner did everything correctly........tried to diffuse the situation, called the cops, license gun owner! Was he suppose to get shot by the pyscho intruder too? He should NOT be charged with anything!!!!

Smh. This gentleman was just minding his business. Not harming anybody. That intruder asked for it. He has every right to defend himself.

What a great example of an everyday person minding their own business, non violent yet still dangerous. You can hear it in his voice that he had zero desire to take a life that night -- yet he had to do what he had to do. Like he said, either him or me.

I have no idea why anyone would even question this man's actions. His life was clearly in danger and video shows it. Questioning whether he should face charges of any kind is pure intellectual silliness. Glad he survived.

Honestly, very good response from the homeowner! He tried to reason and he tried to de-escalate the situation, when the intruder wouldn't listen and attempted to shoot the homeowner, the homeowner had to defend himself. Simply what needed to be done to keep himself safe

I worked with the guy being interviewed here 4 years ago. He's a real nice guy. You can tell by the fact that he tried reasoning with the intruder armed intruder which is a step most people wouldn't have taken in that scenario. I hope everything turns out okay for him!

They had a court case in (2016) where a burglar broke into a home , fell down and got injured in the house. Sued the homeowner in court for the injury he got. The judge awarded the criminal compensation for his injuries he got that day at the residence, instead of having the main focus being the criminal breaking into someone else's home and giving the homeowner some peace knowing that the thief was going to be convicted in court for his crime.

Homeowner did the only thing he could do. Kudos to him.

The home owner did everything right! He purchased his weapon. He also went through proper TRAINING (can’t stress that enough) to know how to use his firearm and get familiar with it. He warned the intruder. He was put in an unfortunate situation, but resorted to a quick precise decision to defend himself by using deadly force. I hope all is well moving forward for this gentleman. Hopefully, that sends a message to others that might have a thought of running up on a person’s home.

That’s just sad. Seems like a nice guy forced into a bad situation. I can’t imagine what’s it like to kill a complete stranger but I can understand the fear he had and the will to defend yourself.

NEVER make a statement with the police until your attorney is present. It doesn’t matter how justified you are for what you did, EVERYTHING you say can and WILL be used against you in court. Your mind and mouth after an incident like this can and WILL say dumb shit that can be misconstrued and result in a self defense situation becoming a full fledged murder trial. Simply explain that you feared for your life and would like to make a full statement through your attorney. You will be detained if not arrested as part of the investigation BUT your chances of being permanently released after giving your proper statement are much higher.

Hope it went well for the homeowner, seeing this for the first time one year later. I can't start to imagine the emotions of having to shoot and kill someone to stand your ground and save yourself from harm, when it normally goes against one's beliefs as this brave man clearly showed in the news story. Sadly I've regularly witnessed the sorts of actions and gestures by this intruder before; sure signs of someone who abuses and is addicted to hardcore drugs like fentanyl and meth. The area where I work is filled with individuals like this; they come into our shop and when they get riled up act exactly like this individual did. For them it's become a regular need to get money for that next fix. And the way their modern drugs of dependence act upon their brains, it usually devolves into acts of extreme violence. However most of them in our circumstance know that we're no pushover; most of us at work are actually well-armed and trained, and they figure it out rather quickly when we stand our ground, calmly daring them to "make your move" without even having to say so. Apparently the fentanyl hasn't completely corrupted their sadly messed-up brains to the point where they can no longer realize that their acts of phony bravado aren't working, and they instead choose to walk away, typically cussing and name-calling as they back off and disappear into to gutter to find a meeker victim to frighten, intimidate and rob.
