Sammy hits #61 and the man with the most hits in the 90's ends the game with a walk-off homer. What a magical game and what a magical season! (and Kerry Wood struck out 20 that year as a rookie, and the Cubs made the playoff for the first time in 9 years). Everything felt like it was coming up roses for the Cubs in 98.
Holy shit, this had to be the most exhilarating day to be a Cubs fans. As a Yanks fan, I still enjoy watching other fans of other teams enjoy their moments.
Cubs fan here and I've been to some exciting games, but I lived in Seattle for 20 years and the best two most rocking games I've ever been to was the M's vs NY in 1995. As a Yankee fan, I know you remember NY won the first two games of the series and then came to the Kingdome for three. I went to games 4 and 5 and I've never experienced that kind of excitement in baseball before. When Edgar hit the double and Griffey slid across home, holy cow. The dome was rocking so hard. I truly believe that if the M's didn't win that series, they may have never got Safeco Field built a few years later. Edit: My best friend was lucky enough to be at this Cubs game for Sosa's 61 and 62. I wish I could've been!
@@cubswin6779 As much as it hurts me to say this, the M's absolutely killed it in that series. They did their fans justice. Reminds me of the same feeling I felt watching Boone's homer end that ALCS game against the sox. God I still hate Joe Buck's narration of that game.
I still get chills watching this... WOW Sammy the man the way he always ran to the Left feild... And mark Grace one of the best first base .... And now poor Sammy can't get his name mentioned in the in the ballpark Wrigley Field the friendly confines.. Sammy brought baseball ⚾⚾ back and not even a thank you.... Out of 75 just 1 bat was was fuked up ....but I want to say thank you Sammy Sosa#21⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾⚾
The 90s hands down were the greatest decade in the history of this world. Football, baseball, basketball, hockey, golf, tennis, auto racing, wrestling....the list goes on....were ALL peaking as fk during this decade! Television, food, music, film, like everything was on fire!!! 😢😢😢😢
YEAH STEROIDS REALLY WORKED OUT FOR HIM HUH? WOW HE WAS PUMPING THOSE STEROIDS DAILY HUH..DAMN IM ABOUT TO TAKE SOME STEROIDS AND JOIN THE MAJORS. HOW MUCH STEROIDS DO YOU THINK HE TOOK TO HIT ALL OF THOSE HOME RUNS?
Tell me what did they catch sammy doing...what that one bate out of 75 that they took from And only one was chord with a whole in... And nobody has seen him shoot any drugs in his body... So tell me when they BUSTED him ... I maybe might be wrong.. But I am a 3 generation of being a CUBS fan..... I been a CUBS fan before it was cool to be one... Now they latch on... But let me know.....
Watched both highlights of McGwire and Sosa which they simply gave Baseball something none of us will see the likes again and seeing this Sammy belt 61 & 62 this one was utopia. All of Waveland Ave came out to see history.
@@JimA-pp2nu no one knew at the time steroids played a part in it but for that one season Baseball became enjoyable again and Mark & Sammy very much brought the sport the American Past Time really needed.
Gracias a y a Mcwired.
I was lucky enough to be at that game. I've never heard a noise like the crowd made on those two Sosa swings. Gary Gaetti's presence says something about the small-shop, "family" mindset the Cubs organization used to be. He was a great help in making the playoffs, but they felt obligated to sign him for the 99 season. They should have given him his playoff split, said goodbye, Godspeed, and moved on from him. But they didn't.
At 23:01 a woman held up a sign that said hit one for my mommy. Sammy was like: Hold my drink I don't know why I feel so happy watching all these fans happy.
At the 24:32 point on this video the camera shows the Dominican flag that was put up hanging by ,a light pole by a fan and Sammy saw the flag when it was put on the large stadium screen. The was the only time Sammy almost broke down watching the flag and realizing that he was elevating his whole country with his accomplishments. That's when he put his head down and he almost cried and instead shook himself up and with his head down smiled with a feeling of true happiness. That was a very special moment to see.
Sammy sosa steroids? Entiende?? Steroids STEROIDS STEROIDS.. STEROIDS STEROIDS STEROIDS EL CHEATING CANT SAY IT IN SPANISH DAMMIT. HE CHEATED NO CREDITO...CHEATO CHEATO STEROIDS 😆😆😆😂😂😂😆😆😆😂😂😂
Fact of the matter is, they both committed crimes by taking illegal substances. On top of that, it was pure cheating no matter how you look at it. And on top of that, and worse of all, MLB knew what was going on during this time span and did nothing about it because MLB needed something to get people excited about the game again. Although I agree they did overall help the game of baseball in the grand scheme of things. Steroids were part of the era, and they partook of it. However, it is still blatant and outright cheating and would be disgraceful for others in the HOF if cheaters were allowed in.
I remember people used to complain that Sammy was a hot dog. Sure, a little hop after he launched the ball and he blew a few kisses (mainly to his wife in the stands), but he basically put his head down and circled the bases. Cubs need to reconcile with him. On a side note, I was at this game. I kept score and still have the scorecard that commemorates 61 and 62.
