I'll be honest, I had my own reservations about Chicago having a street course simply because of the high crime rate it had. What would happen if there was a shooting in the grandstands, or even in the pit area? But those concerns were quickly swept away after last year's race. To have people still hating on the idea of a streets race in Chicago after a very successful inaugural event is absolutely ridiculous!
Never been shot at in Chicago, have been shot at during a parade in the suburbs though. Also, Chicago doesn’t have anywhere near as bad of a crime rate as FOX and friends would have you think…
Have a great time. Security was good last year. I'm sure the race will be interesting. Hope it's dry this time. People like this reporter, dragging up the Civil War. What a bonehead. Stay safe!
Sad thing is NASCAR will go out of their way to hopefully persuade him. They'll throw a party for him instead of crushing him. I worked in Chicago for 6 months years ago doing rainfall studies for the waste water treatment facilities and have never been back since. Chicago is a foul mouthed fat kid in a candy store. It's hideous. I did meet some great people there and eat some amazing food but for the most part, IT SUCKS.
This guy must be getting paid by the Chicago City Council who are also against this Street Race and wanted to try and sabotage the inaugural race last year to stop it from happening
Jim is the type of guy to say stereotypes are bad, unless it’s something I don’t like, therefore it’s perfectly reasonable to have them. Also, it’s annoying how that average speed point has been brought up multiple times. Saw an Instagram reel about someone saying they can walk faster than that.
I live on Michigan Av. next to Grant Park. NASCAR is a much easier event to live with for locals than the major music festivals. There's actually less overall noise and disruption, the crowds are more pleasant, the crowd actually use local businesses other than the dealers. I loved watching the race from our roof last year, and I'll do the same this year. Also, Chicago is called the second city because it burnt down and was rebuilt, not as a statement of being the US's second city, if that makes you feel any better.
Yeah NASCAR stereotypes don't hold up in 2024. Not even for the last 20+ years really. The vast majority of drivers aren't from the Southeast. The greatest driver of our generation JJ is a Cali surfer-type. There's black drivers, latino drivers, Asian drivers. They race internationally in various series. This ain't ya grandaddy's NASCAR 😏
i've been following Social media and even a few Snap Stories of the Chicago area and it seems like people are cool with it, they hate it so hard that they post snap stories of them driving down LSD and posted Snap Stories of them watching the race out of their apartments. And there is footage of people looking out the window (TV neglected to show that)
Haha not to get political, but it is one of the top liberal parts of the country. I’m just saying anything to make a story. They will literally say it. It’s a shame we all can’t have fun and leave others alone
Wait. He said General Lee’s and Bootie Barkers implying those people are racist white supremacists. Not knowing Bootie is a crew chief for the only black driver in NASCAR Cup. And then he goes on to call the drivers Bubbas which is a common nickname in the South usually for white guys and I don’t think he knows Bubba in NASCAR Cup again is the only black driver. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Like he just totally screwed the pooch on those references. I’m dying 😭😭😭
MATT. PLEASE DO THIS!!!!! 😂😂 Go to the website for the newspaper he works for and submit a response to his article as an opinion piece or letter to the editor and let’s see if maybe they’ll publish it. Keep being harsh but keep it PC. That would be hilarious. I ask you to do it since you’re good at ripping him a new one. If someone else wants to do it that’s cool too. The more the merrier. Maybe if many do it then one of us will get published. 😅
I don't like the Chicago race because it's terrible racing on an awful race course. Rough as a wagon trail, narrow as F almost everywhere, racing through skyscraper canyons make for poor track view. It's an LA coliseum of a road course.
You do know that there are plenty of liberals who love NASCAR right? I’m one of them, plus I’m from Tennessee. Hell, I was at the race in Nashville this past weekend.
Any city you want to put a race on is politics and that's why I hate the city as well as millions of dollars to close the roads down for the weekend and placing the walls and removing them to open the roads back up.
Chicago Ohare Airport treated me so badly due me needing a wheelchair they hurry and got me taxi and i need to pee they did not stop at rest rooms . so i had wait tell i got train station witch has some most rudest people in world . My whole time in Chicago was bad i fear for my life in taxi's also everyone was rude when i needed help
@@JustGenius2001I have never been to Detroit in my life except in 8 Mile with Eminem. With 💯 certainty, I can say YES, you have been lied to. We all have.
@@rvegas3240 I mean I know that for the longest time Camden, New Jersey was the most dangerous city in America, and as a New Jersey resident I know that they've heavily invested into cleaning up the city with the local hospital expanding, the Philadelphia 76ers building a new practice facility on the Camden Waterfront, Campbells soup investing in their corporate headquarters, and Subaru of America moving their headquarters from Cherry Hill to Camden
@@patrickracer43 Camden, New Jersey was once the most dangerous city in America? I didn't know that, honestly. I really thought in my whole life that Detroit was the most dangerous city in America.
I might not be that big of NASCAR fan as I was previously but why is this guy thinks he's some genius reporter or something. This is insane and I am thinking why is this guy hating NASCAR all because of things like well racing on the city streets I was critical about it last year and I wasn't so sure about it but I do want to see if it can work but I hope next time they try a race on city streets its somewhere not named Chicago.
Hey Matt. Why do you call out this "journalist" for being rude towards NASCAR and then speak rudely about Baby Boomers? We're not all old and grumpy. Some of us still got it going on try to stay young by being around young "Millie's" and "Zoomers." I refrain from thinking of the last two generations as weak, whinny, and entitled because that would be demeaning to those that aren't. I'd appreciate it if you adjust the geometry of your chassis so you don't plow in the corners so badly. I apologize for the caps and punctuation marks. I'd rather do the work to make a sentence readable instead of expecting others to do it for me. It's not that difficult either.
Most baby boomers are complete assholes though. They constantly belittle other generations while being the generation that screwed most of everything up. Boomers were at the forefront of the hippie craze, 80s aids scare, 80s economic implosion, etc And most act like this that are anti nascar or pro nascar stuck in steroetypes from the 1990s or earlier. There is a reason most why us Xenials, and Millennials hate boomers.
@@mattcardarelli Here's a little history lesson for you since it was never taught to you. People complaining about the Lost and Social generations during the great depression of 1928 that lasted a decade. But the Greatest and the Silent generations got tough and turned the country around. The Boomer generation started refining technology and Generation X brought you the Internet and cellular phones. Now America is in a borderline recession. So the question is are you going to whine and blame the generations with your mythical theories or are you going to get tough like those before you and turn things around? So far all I hear is a bunch of whining coming from people who proclaim self-entitlement while wasting money on tattoos and this year's newest phone that they can't seem to be able to put down. Seen you might be replaced by AI.
Uhhh I also hate running races on a street or road courses , what a stupid waste of $ spent by NASCAR & Chicago to build a street coarse. I see channel surfing happening for Sunday during the race like last year. I see NO point in running a street race in a market that could careless about NASCAR, the Chicago Land track having poor attendance was part of the reason it was kicked off the schedule. That's the main reason I don't watch Indy Car or Formula One bc they mainly run street or road courses & it's very boring, sorry I'm old school NASCAR & like circle track from superspeedways to short tracks. I hardly watch the road coarse races except for the beginning of & the last 5 or so laps.
🏁 I think Matt has no opinion of Chicago (good or bad) He was actually trying to parody the style of the no name Suburban Chicago print newspaper commentator. I definitely knew right away what Matt aka BrakeHard was doing but I can see how his style could have confused pro NASCAR folks on here.
Local journalists have been shitting on street circuits for ...ever. Almost cliche that he brought up the speed from last year. Sounds like some jackass journalist from Detroit in 1983 talking about the F1 race.
"I don't have time for people like Jim." , after dedicating an entire 8 min. vid to him. The guy was clearly looking for a reaction, and will likely say it was "satyrical", but here is the thing : You gave him the attention he wanted.
whys he have to like nascar, maybe he wants nascar to go away forever, dout thats possible even tho nascar has gone powder puff compared to old school nascar, he just beating his drum, lefty mama drama, its what they do when they cant get their way, and ots ok because hardcore american way fans pay no attention anyway
Uh, ketchup does belong on a hot dog. It's a normal thing here where I live (Southeast USA) and I assume other parts of the USA. Who in the hell puts lettice and pickles on a hot dog?
It's pretty funny that you did an entire video (and a good one at that) about a dude writing an article filled with nascar stereotypes, yet you, yourself, include in your video a stereotypical misogynistic comment. Just sayin'. 😂
