As has been said here, to me this is the definitive lineup of the electric band. I have never doubted Mike Miller as a player, and he, Jimmy Earl and Gary Novak are all able to stretch out to the max.
Gary Novak and Jimmy Earl- give them their due. They were in Beast mode in this live concert. I saw this lineup as well as the original when Jimmy was hired. All Hail to Patitucci. That being said,Jimmy blew the doors off the place. That ebony Ken Smith 6 String was and still is a sweet sounding killer .....Props main.

The BEST version of the Elektric Band, imo! Every one of these guys absolutely smokes. I'm glad Eric was still in the band - he's the perfect sax player for this music. I'm really impressed by the musicality of Jimmy Earl! He throws so many unexpected, adventurous things in his playing. Mike Miller is much more tasteful and melodic than Gambale, and has a great tone here. Gary Novak absolutely eats Weckl for breakfast, imho. Does everything Weckl can do, but with more soul and personality. Dave Weckl is an absolutely wonderful drummer, but I just have always found his style and sound to be too clinical and sterile. Novak's playing sounds DANGEROUS!
I totally agree with what you say about Novak. Hearing Weckl play CTA is weird compared to Novak. I was a HUGE Weckl fan.....until I met him(but that's another story)....and I was kinda bummed that Novak took over for EB2. I saw EB2 live in concert and that changed.
Seeing these guys in '93 changed me as a musician. I left there different than I went in. Love the original lineup but this band breathed more and flew by the seat of their pants.
Wow, what a showcase. I too was only familiar with the Weckl, Pattatucci combo with Henderson or Gambale’. I have heard of Mike Miller but never saw a performance. Thanks for this. Also heard of Gary Novak but never had the pleasure to hear/see. Wonderful!
This whole concert is great, and "Tumba Island" in particular is one of the best examples of live jazz I've ever heard, including the ridiculously great drum solo!

I was longing for the follow up to paint the world then. Now I hope for the return of this band especially mike miller. I feel mike playing is filled so much more feelings, so much emotion.

Just out of curiosity: does anyone know what the 19-inch box that Chick has on top of the synth is? I'm just wondering because it's placed so prominent and accessible and not tucked away somewhere in the rack. Any ideas from the gear pros?
So what is this Elektric band 2? I thought it was always Weckl, Patitucci, Marienthal, Hendersson or Gambale? Was it only for live purposes for a short while or did they make album aswell?
You know that Chick took away Weckl from Michel Camilo? Dave did good , but fade away in Oblibion"""' he was one of the best Drummers """" then Camilo had better drummers like El Negro Hernandez., I like Eric Marienthal Sax, John Patitucci later play w Camilo.
True history my friend"" Michel Camilo did not invented the Trio, but he made it popular again, he had a group call French Toast, member was Dave Weckl, I forgat who was the bass player, maybe was Anthony Jackson , Chick Corea listen to them , and he was impress by Dave Drumming, made him a offer, in those days Michel was an Known, also Chick wanted to Manage Michel's career, but he refused..... I love chick music, but Michel is the Shit""""
They did an album called ... The Elektric band II :D "Paint the World", featuring Gary Novak on drums, Mike Miller on guitar, Eric Marienthal on Sax, and Jimmy Earl on Bass. The date is wrong, in 1991 chick started to tour with Weckl Patitucci, Marienthal and Gambale for the Beneath the Mask Tour. the Elektric band II tour happpened in 1994, but we could listen to some tunes of this album already in 1992 during the Beneath the Mask Tour. Jimmy Earl started to replace Patitucci on the second part of the tour, as Patitucci left the band to tour with Wayne Shorter, and tunes like Blue Miles was played during this 92 tour. another tune from the EB II album "paint the world" was played in 1992 but with the akoustic band, which had, for members : Patitucci, Gary Novak and Bob Berg, and for one time in blue note in Japan, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums
Funny comment this... because I saw this lineup when i was about 17 and I sat DIRECTLY in front of Gary novak on the stage (!) Wearing my frizzle fry t shirt as I was a real primus nut at the time. Had to wait 27 years to tell that story 😀
HERE KOREA WILL LET THEMSELVES ALONE, BUT THE CHILEANS WOULD PUNISH THEM ...HE SOLOISTS KNOW THAT IF THEY DO NOT GO, CHICK WOULD NOT LET THEM MAKE MANY ALONE
