Chick Hearn was the best there ever was, the fastest, the sharpest, the funniest. Caught every foul committed on the floor, whether it was called or not. I learned the game of basketball listening to him, and generations of Angelenos could attest to that. Watching a Laker game still doesn't feel the same without him in the booth.
when ever they bring up keys to the game............i always imagine chick doing the pre game briefing what/who "we gotta look out for" whos in for trouble tonight etc...where the banging is gonna go down/between who etc........knew how to give a scouting report like no other
I had the honor of meeting Chick while on vacation in San Antonio when I went to watch the Lakers play there in about 1984. He genuinely was a nice friendly man and he introduced me to Keith Erickson too as I went to the announcers table at half time. I've been a fan and a listener since 1964, I wish I had been there for that tribute.
Chick was the best. Even in a moment that was all about him, he still had time to rip the lakers a new one for performing poorly in the first half. rip chick. Ill always remember listening to your casts with my dad as a kid.
I miss Magic and Cap and James and Coop and Rambis and AC and Jamal and B and Shaq. But I miss Chicky the most RIP Chick. We got 2 after you passed and I reckon that there will be many more. Chick called 9 championships without a miss spanning 4 decades.. 72' 80' 82' 85' 87' 88' 00' 01' 02' miss you Golden Throat
greatest fan there ever was, told it like it is and didnt mind/never hesitated paying his respects to the other team if they happened to be the only ones that came to play that night. Gold standard class act. Knew everyones game inside and out
Chicky Baby, he was the all time great. No matter what your background in L.A. Chick Hearn was the one thing everybody who loved sports could agree on and feel proud of. The real deal, since Hector was a pup.
My friend was lucky enough to play in the N.B.A. and I had the privilege of talking to Mr. Hearn on a few occasions. Always very nice and friendly. A true legend who will never be replaced. R.I.P. Chick
Not a Laker fan here, but I respected the organization during the Jack Kent Cooke and especially the Dr. Jerry years. With due respect to Johnny Most, Chick is the icon of basketball announcers. A lot of people don't understand that he really understood the game and he could evaluate talent on a par with any NBA front office executive. His best job of announcing though was the opening game of the 2001-02 season when the Lakers were to be presented their championship rings. The NBA Commish, Mr. Stern, in his misguided arrogance sent Russ Granik to present the rings while Stern attended Michael Jordan's comeback in New York City. Things could've gotten really ugly at Staples, but Chick, being Chick, got the crowd under control with his presence and stature. So sad to see what the Lakers have done to Jerry West as well. Kobe might have gone to the Clippers if not for The Logo's counsel.
Chicken told the LakeShow they needed some Alpo cause in the 1st half they played like dogs! EPIC. They won on a Kobe dunk on a missed Shaq free-throw OVER HORACE GRANT!!!
The Great Western Forum was rocking! The fans were loud...hell chick hearn got a bigger pop than Kobe's jersey retirement speech at the Staples Center.
