Hey brother I found you 3 days ago and I can't stop watching you. I'm amazed at all the different foods you have access to in the uk . I'm from Nebraska USA and have been stuck in bed in the hospital for a week and you've made my days better thank you.
You're channel has saved me a fortune, I used to buy all the top brands until I started watching your comparisons and didn't realise how much I was spending! Thank you😁
Really glad heron have started doing these curries. My local has an entire freezer of different ones. I'm not a fan of rice so £2 for the curry and spend the £1 you save on the Iceland one on naan bread or poppadoms.
@@BaldFoodieGuy yes. Make sure you regularly check in with heron 😂. You'll get the good stuff like this and the bad stuff like that cheese burger you did the other day. Then the interesting stuff they just randomly stock. It's worth keeping an eye on their Facebook page for what they've got.
I had the heron vindaloo last week and enjoyed it, not sure if it's nationwide but at my local they were doing 2 curries and 2 sides (rice or Bombay potatoes) for 5 quid, now that's great value. Enjoyed all of it, especially for the money.
Just found your channel mate and I'm loving it. I like that your covering foods that are readily available on the high street and what I like to eat myself. Keep up the excellent content. I'm a new subscriber from South Yorkshire , UK 😎👍
Thank you for doing this review i remember telling you i had one of these from heren food's and yes it was awsome for £2 .and somebody gave me some microwave popadoms i think they where from home bargains .ive never seen them before
I've got my slow cooker fired up this morning, got some (British) Chicken Mini Fillets and a couple of jars of Balti 2-step Sauce, all from Aldi. Thrown in a chopped onion and some garlic. Should be enough for 4 portions for myself, one for today and the other 3 individual portions in the freezer.
The prices in Iceland recently are getting ridiculous, popped in yesterday and the woodfired pizzas they sell ( Iceland brand ) are 3 quid now, wasn't that long aago they were £1.79 or something similar under 2 quid anyway
those iceland curries are absolutely banging but I'm not a fan of the "Takeaway" rice though. I often get the Tilda Lime & Coriander Pilau instead which you can get £1 in ASDA or sometimes Poundshops - especially good for spicier curries like this as the citrus flavour balances the spice perfectly. Shallow fry a chapati in oil until it's crispy and you have yourself an epic curry for £5
Try the veetee rice. I've found it to be the best microwave rice by far. These days it usually comes in a 2 pack. Basically two small portions in a split pot thingy. But just do both of them. Asda do them.
Iceland's Buttery Chicken is super excellent in my view. I've bought it a number of times. Iceland's Special Fried Rice has gone downhill IMO. Used to be spectacular, but I suspect the Ice people have cut back for cost and it was pretty soggy last time, about a week ago.
Food reviewer spoon anxiety: When the reviewer scoops a spoonful of food, holds it mid-air and then continues gobbing on with potential spillage of said spoon becoming more and more likely. Talk, then spoon, then straight in gob. I need a lie down ;-)
Finally got around to trying the Just essentials vegetable soup from ASDA after your comparison video - 5 bob's worth of extremely tasty soup. Yer playin' a stormer lad..haud gan.
The Iceland ones are pretty decent. The chicken can be a tiny bit of the rubbery or crunchy side very occasionally, but for the price they’re good. Sadly some snobs around in the comments who clearly aren’t affected by the cost of living crisis and feel the need to criticise budget food.
Hi Gareth so glad you have reviewed these curries mate, I went to a Heron's shop last week and bought the Mayflower curry n chips you reviewed a while ago and enjoyed them also bought the Beef Madras and rice and Chicken Bhuna and Chicken Vindaloo, the Beef Madras was a bit tough and chewy but edible and nice n spicy and would buy again, haven't tried the Chicken Vindaloo yet, have you tried Sainsbury's Hot Chicken Tikka Masala? hell that's really nice n hot!
I'm a Vindaloo fan and impressed by your comments. I've never heard of Heron so perhaps some research is required. Can we see some more Vegan reviews your Linda McCartney burger review is still a favourite!!
Best curries I’ve had recently are from Asda. Their butter chicken, korma and tikka masala are all amazing. Bit pricey at £3.75 each but there’s just meat & sauce (no rice) so you get loads and can feed two.
Can't buy these anymore knowing how much they once were. Used to be regularly on offer for £2. Same with Morrisons, try their version £3.99 and really good. But the price I just can't bring myself to pay it. The local Indian does the proper stuff for a fiver.
Well as we don’t have heron foods up here I’ll settle for an Iceland vindaloo on my way home! Cba cooking tonight though I’d planned a beef madras….good review Gareth, but yes, Iceland do need to chill the price increases!
thanks for this video i have been at a bit of a loss with iceland changing all their curry recipes and none seem as nice especially my favourite the chicken bhuna . i popped into herons and got 3 curries to try , very impressed with the chicken madras can't wait to taste the other two .
Gareth staying p. A FARM whilst waiting to move tonight we had belted galloway steak beautiful they are bred here we normally have morrisons lovely treat
I’ve just had the Heron Foods vindaloo on your recommendation in this video! Delicious and very hot, would definitely buy again at £2 it’s an absolute bargain! Thanks v much for recommending this and keep the content coming👍🏻
I've tried an Iceland curry it tasted good great value for money so I was surprised when the Heron came out tops. It's a good job we have you to test these meals 👍
Like most of your viewers, I think you are top class! Adverts never have worked on me, but these videos make me want to run to Heron/Iceland and grab a curry. Thank you. Peace be unto you.
Apologies if this is a stupid question gareth😂but can you do those in an air fryer?wasn't sure if you can put those plastic tubs in an air fryer?keep up the great content 👍
Another good video mate. I'm sure you tried the Farm Foods version of the Vindaloo as I went looking for it, I actually liked it and found it quite sweet and not that spicy.
I'm rally disappointed with Iceland frozen food all the " Improved Recipies" I've no idea how they can improve any as they were good to start with. I'm sure it's a market ploy just to get us to buy them again. Their New Improved Egg Fried Rice is shocking. I've put a complaint in to Iceland as it's inedible. Just mush after being in the microwave. Now I have had the New improved Chicken Vindaloo and can't work out whats been improved. I think they change the boxs and add 50p on that and call it improved lol. Also great videos mate. Have a great Christmas and New Year to you and your family.
Excellent review, Gareth, how about reviewing some of Heron Foods XSELL range of budget food packs? I buy their packs of four battered cod or haddock fillets at £1.75 a pack, the fillets are thick, flaky and delicious.
Curries to shop buy and take home have come a long way over the years. My first ever curry was the Vesta Vindaloo packet around 1968. That should of put me off for life, after the ring of 🔥 the next day. Good review of my favourite food and nowadays it's about the price.
They all had a kind of powdery taste. I fondly remember the Vesta chicken chow mein with crispy and soft noodles. We certainly lived the highlife back then 🤣🤣.
@@klackon1 Ah yes, I remember those. The crispy noodles were lovely with a sweet and sour taste and were the best part of it. Showing our age here and we ate ours with family at the table, watching the old box black and white TV.
@@PamelaD963 That was my mum's speciality, eventually she progressed to making all the meals from her own ingredients. She fed the family well and saved money too.
Great comparison video Gazz but i would have left at least 2-3 hours or overnight between tasting i think first one sets the tone so second curry doesn't get a fair testing plus try with rice and naan as these dishes are usually made to need a compliment with them. Thumbs up from me though my old pal.
Never heard of Heron Foods tbh, I looked it up and the nearest one to me is 16 miles away. I saw they are owner by the same owners as B&M stores, do B&M stores sell Heron products? Enjoyed the video fella ☺️
Got one of the Heron ones defrosting in the fridge. I normally take them out of the freezer 24 hours before I plan on eating them. 25 minutes in the oven (to line up with frozen chips) instead of 45. Keeps everything else cold in the warmer weather as well 👌🏻
I’ve finally tried the Heron “Vindaloo” it nearly floored me. Don’t get me wrong I’ve never eaten Scorpion Chillies for breakfast but I thought I had some tolerance. Clearly I was wrong. It reminds me of the Iceland reaper chilli curry they used to do. Good stuff all the same but phew!
I absolutely love the "oil slick of goodness"! And really please the £2 Heron won. I've never been a fan of the Iceland chicken pieces - they feel very processed (well they are!) so unless they're free - they had a storecard offer a couple of weeks ago where if you bough anything you got a free curry! - I stick with the beef madras, which is the only non-chicken meat curry Iceland does. But that Heron sauce looks very smooth. BTW, I've yet to try the Home Bargains curry, which looking at it frozen does look like better chicken than Iceland. I think that's £2.49. Do give it a go - if they haven't got in one HB, you can walk to the other - the Wetherspoons is about half way! 🍻
That looks lovely. It also makes me slightly jealous of those of you who are lucky enough to have a Heron Foods store nearby. Sadly they dont seem to have reached Scotland yet... Fingers crossed.
If someone said to me that one day I'll be watching some geezer eat/review food, I would of told him he's mad. But I can't help watching your vids lol... Keep up the good work fella
My issue with these supermarket curries is they use reformed chicken. Yes it is breast but it's flayed off the carcass and then reformed into a piece of meat as opposed to cut off a piece of breast meat. At that price point though you can't be too picky. I'd rather use a Patak's spice pot and make my own curries using tastier thigh meat.
Hi We do have a good variety of foods in UK Matt and sometimes take it for granted, sadly. I was in hospital for three weeks last January. Took a while to recover at 77. Chin up, hope you feel better soon. Nanny Gail.
Hi Gareth, hope this finds you well. The Heron vindaloo looked immense. I'd love to try that one and what a great price. As you say, 2 of them with pilau rice, chips and a nan. Excellent. Mate I was wondering if you would review different brands of Turkey gravy. I'd be interested to see what the winner is. Cheers fella it's beer time for the football. 😁🍺
Was never a fan of frozen food really until my mate recommended the heron vindaloo. He said its "got a punch", i laughed and went and got one, was amazed at the heat level and flavour. Been addicted ever the since, the phall is nice too, but i think the vindaloo is hotter (weirdly).
I like Iceland's vindaloo, but I'll give Heron a whirl since both shops are close in my local precinct. Cheers for the recommendation Gareth. Keep it up ;)
My local Indian curry house does a top notch vindaloo with naan bread cooked to order, but it isn't cheap, just great. On the other hand I always keep Iceland vindaloo's in my freezer, which come in handy on movie nights without having to order a takeaway. I also have to admit I never really shopped at Iceland until I watched your videos on RU-vid. But now my freezer holds a good stock of their products based on your trials of their meals. OK, so going back to the vindaloo's. The frozen ones might not have the same heat of a takeaway, but they still hit the taste buds where it matters. Keep up the good work my friend and keep all of your viewers " spot on ".
Gareth do Heron do a chicken Jaffreze cos if they do I be around there tomorrow 🍅 iceland have watered down all there curries under the label of NEW Great comparison see you on your next one
I no longer buy these type. I gave myself an intensive curry making course during the first lockdown so have been making my own. I have discovered the curry kits now which are very good, most supermarkets sell them (not sure about Iceland). Only basic cooking skills needed. Would love to see you review something that ends up being a real treat for you. Hope you are feeling better today.
Bought the Heron food version on your recommendation and was surprised how good it was. Hotter than expected which was a bonus. Bargain at 2 quid will stock up on my next visit. SPOT ON!
I always buy curries from that Iceland takeaway range when they are on special offer, one offer they sometimes run is 5 for £5... so just £1 each!! Amazing value. I've also seen them on offer at 2 for £4.50, which is £2.25 each, still quite good value.
