When I heard about how puppy mills are a big business in the Amish community and that dogs are left in terrible conditions and the cruelty they endure I knew it couldn't possibly be better for the women and children. When people isolate like they do and teach that the outside world is the enemy abuse is bound to happen.

The only place I’ve ever heard of Amish having puppy mills is in one area of Pennsylvania, and it’s not characteristic of most Amish to mistreat animals. If I’m not mistaken, these have been largely shut down due to outside pressure and loss of business. Nobody wants a pet dog from a mill unless it’s to rescue it. It IS true that people who abuse or neglect animals are likely to abuse and neglect people. Most Amish who know of this are disapproving of it, as they should be!

I am the proud owner of a Mennonite puppy. She was raised in very good conditions and is well-adapted. There are surely more "English" people who treat there animals (and kids) bad, but it doesn't make as "good" a story.

@@annhelfrich6139 You were absolutely right to turn in a person who abuses a horse. What you describe is despicable. It’s in the book of Proverbs, A righteous man considers the life of his beast. (I don’t suppose the entire family was engaged in the abuse, but I think I’d have a look into how he treats his wife and children!).

Wow. My ex husband's family is from Adams County, Ohio. We visited an Amish bakery and furniture store down there. At the bakery, a group of adults (there were children too) was talking in the back of the store, visible through a glass window. As soon as they noticed me they switched from English to Pennsylvania Dutch. At the furniture store, my ex asked a teenage boy behind the counter a question. He looked at his father (who nodded) before answering. I had no idea that these could be (possible) signs of abuse. These videos are a real eye opener.

First up I am a survivor of sexual abuse, once when I was 4 or 5 years of age, and again on repeated ocasions from 14 to 17 years of age. Maybe 70 or more times. However my belief is take any minority group, be religious based or not, sexual abuse will be the same or similar percentage as the overall population. Yes some groups hide or try to hide it. I never spoke to anyone about what I suffered until recently. I worked through it with a counciler. Thank you for a great video. Abuse is real. Damage to a young mind is real. Abuse in any form needs to stop. Today I try to let it stop with me. No I am not perfect, but I do my best to live a good life, and not harm others.

It's sad that you or anyone else has delt with sexual abuse. Or any kind of abuse. Or neglect. Another sad thing is, if you feel that a child is being abused. And you report it. They don't do anything about it. I personally know of a family,when the children were being abused. The cps went out to the home, talked to everyone in the same room. Did not separate the people up. So they could tell their story. ( Tell the truth) so of course, the trust was not spoken because of the ABUSER'S in the same room.

This sounds so similar to how the Catholic Church handled the child abuse scandal within the church. They wanted to handle it from within and not provoke the moral outrage they knew would come if the public was fully aware. And, they “forgave” the abusers, and moved them to other churches where they continued to abuse kids, ruining their lives, thousand and thousands of kids. We all know the outcome. So many, many stories of child abuse within organized churches, that it almost seems endemic.

I’ve seen an Amish family in Southern MD who raised black labs. The puppies ran around everywhere in the farm yard, dog poop everywhere, bare foot children and adult women walking around paying no mind to the excrement and walking right thru it. They were selling puppies for $100 with no health guarantee, no shots. People came up to the farm to buy puppies while we were there. What about the Missouri DA that recommended a suspended sentence for the 22yo and 18 yo brothers and no charges of the two other younger brothers that gang raped and impregnated the 12 yo sister. The DA stated “they were naive and would be eaten alive in prison”. They were returned to the home where their victim lives. The younger ones were not placed in a facility to receive psychiatric or any other help either. At the very least shouldn’t the sister have been removed for her protection although that would be a form of punishing her. There is no documentation to demonstrate that the authorities investigated whether or not the parents knew and if so should be prosecuted. The poor daughter/sister will most likely continue to be victimized and if impregnated again, will most likely be hidden away to protect the siblings and parents. If she just “disappears” who will know?? Where’s the ACLU or Child Advocate groups to stand up for her civil rights? Where’s the Feds ??

The problem is you respected what you could see which wasn't a bad thing. Just like the religion I grew up in everyone admired them and said "Oh look they pack up all their kids and go to church every Sunday and they are so nice." What we outsiders don't see is what goes on behind closed doors. Thankfully my parents pretty much did what they wanted and we weren't cut off from the rest of the world. We could play with outsiders "worldly kids" we couldn't go in their houses and as long as they knew where we were and home when the street lights came on we had free range. That wasn't true for everyone and I know some abuse went on and was covered up. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT GOES ON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. Until someone unlocks it.

The idea of radical forgiveness, admonishing a victim for talking about the trauma they endured, isn't unique to the Amish community. The Quiverfull movement (many would call it a cult) that was made known to the mainstream by families like the Duggars, is well known for the abuse of children, and blaming the victim. Many fundamentalists, evangelicals, and religious fringe groups are rife with abuse.

I was told everything was normal and common, that was the way everyone lived, but I wasn't long out of the home before I realized It was 180 degrees from normal. Wow! I've worked with the Amish in the poultry industry and I've always been a little leary of the the way they live. On the surface, they seem to be good folks. However, I've seen outsiders talk about them in a very harsh way. This was eye opening and franky it's never crossed my mind. I always thought they would be above this kind of behavior.
@mariekatherine5238
@mariekatherine5238 2 года назад
Why would the Amish be above evil behavior? All people have good and evil propensities. It could and does happen among all peoples. People simply EXPECT better of identifiably “religious” people. How a person ends up, more good than evil, or more evil than good, ultimately depends upon his or her choices. The environment he grows up in and people he chooses for for friends is also a factor. Victims of abuse are more likely to end up becoming abusers themselves. When old enough to choose your environment and friends, a bad choice easily leads to copycat behavior because you want to fit in. I’ve a nephew who hung out with the wrong people in high school. He’d been bullied in middle school, unbeknownst to his family. He decided upon entering high school he was done with that sh*t, so he hung out with the tough kids. He became one himself and ended up in juvie for a year. He decided to think after getting out. He decided to be neither a victim nor a bully and criminal. He joined Job Corps, got his GED, and a job as a journeyman laying brick, cement block, and stone. Doing that lead to interest in the artistic aspect. He now has his own business designing patios and outdoor living spaces. He’s happily married with four kids of his own. He wanted to quit Job Corps many times, but got an excellent counselor who educated him about his mistakes and guided him in getting out of the cycle. The Amish need the same thing. Punishment for abusers, yes, but counseling and education in breaking the cycle. I lucked out in living with families where abuse was not present. The particular communities with one exception were relatively new,

The media, for decades, and outsiders in general idolized the Amish because of their unique culture and obviously different lifestyle. People expect them to be perfect, so when their fallible weaknesses are revealed, everybody is shocked. The Amish are human, subject to sin like anyone else. It’s the same as when a clergyman is discovered to be a pedophile or an adulterer. People expect better, as well they should, but keep in mind the Amish are not clergy except if that’s their role within their society. @@jodyhahn825 That’s a bizarre practice! I’ve never encountered it that I know of, but maybe I did and who would know? I do know of an Amish widow who’d married young, had all her children grow up and leave home, and several years after the marriage of her last child at home, she took as a foster child, the nine year old daughter of Mexican farm workers when both were killed in an accident with a combine. After a year she legally adopted her and raised her Amish while helping her retain the Spanish language, foods, songs, etc. Upon adulthood, the young woman located some cousins in Mexico and stayed with them on and off for a number of years. She eventually married and joined her husband at a Spanish speaking Beechy Amish church.
@mariekatherine5238
@mariekatherine5238 2 года назад
@@jodyhahn825 Diversifying the gene pool is a really good idea. The Amish have a great number of genetic disorders among them, some that are limited to those of Amish descent. Mennonites also suffer from it, although not as badly. In nearly every Amish community, there are people, children, who don’t make it to adulthood due to too close marriages. I can think of a dozen right away, most of whom have passed away by now. They died from muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, rare forms of Tay Sachs and albinism, low-functioning autism, Down Syndrome, PKU, MSUD-“Maple Syrup Urine Disease” similar to PKU, found only among Amish/Mennonite descent, but now controllable with a very restrictive diet at least through early adulthood. It used to be fatal, the victims dying as vegetables by about 25-30. Another is a form of brittle bone disease, thus far, incurable. The people, if they live, are in wheelchairs or bedridden. More progressive churches will not marry closer than fourth or fifth cousins. Sadly, there are still many cases in very conservative groups of first and second cousin or even half-sibling marriages. If it continues, these blood lines will eventually die out, but it leaves much suffering in its wake in the meantime.

Physical, sexual, and psychological abuse apparently goes on in every religious body (and also in the armed services, corporations, government, and ordinary-looking families). lt looks like it goes on wherever there are people. When it happens, the perpetrators who are usually in a dominant role want it kept quiet. They do that in family situations by shaming the victims. They tell the victims that it is their fault, that they are bad people, that no one will believe them, that they deserve it. Corporations, religious bodies, and the military work to protect the perpetrators so that the organizations look good. If they can, they make promises to the victims that they do not keep and the perpetrators can continue this abuse, maybe with a new victim, maybe not. This sense of sweeping abuse under the rug, usually happens because the abusers are in the same rank as those who should be protecting the innocent. They are "one of the boys" and the good old boys close ranks. ln tight knit, tight lipped organizations, like a Jewish ultra-Othodox community, the Jehovah's Witnesses, the Mormons, the Catholic hierarchy, the Amish, corporate leadership, powerful political figures, the police, and so forth, the game plan means to keep it in the community or group, to protect one of their own and to silence the victims. lt looks like all one has to do is change the label (sect, family, corporate name, political party, police department, military branch, etc.) and the abuse situations begin to look the same. Only by exposing it, can we control the damage. l am afraid, though, we will never wipe it out because it continues to be wherever people are.

Babies being physically abused from 5-6 months old; children 2 yrs old and up being sexually assaulted/raped by their father and/or brothers is the norm rather than the exception. The Amish do not pay income tax b/c they do not utilize government services, which has meant that law enforcement and district attorneys have allowed them to sort out their own legal issues & deal w/ crimes. Of course, that has meant a confession is all it takes when someone has committed such crimes. You cannot travel through any area that is predominantly Amish without noticing the physical characteristics of in-breeding in the children as well as adults; especially the Habsburg jawline. Bestiality is also common on the farms. Of course, other cults/religions with darker ties gov't agencies also have their child sex rings and grooming/abuse in schools, camps, etc., which are rarely prosecuted (that includes the communes in CA and the ring in Hollywood). And, incest & child sex abuse have increased dramatically across the US due to the lockdowns and abandonment by public education. If gov't /pharma doesn't get babies & young people, they still have the grueling task of surviving their family.

Since the 50's, they have groomed children of elite/notable families, cooperating agents, and others for secret programs at universities, mental hospitals, prisons, military, etc; sometimes from early childhood who are used for sex abuse/trafficking, or if grooming begins later, chosen b/c they have an interest in pedophilia, occult, sadism, etc., before they are placed in key positions in government, including all levels of the judiciary. They ensure protection for the worst offenders (including politicians, State Dept employees) making sure cases don't get prosecuted, minimal sentences are given if convicted, and victims/witnesses are harassed, slandered as "mentally ill", "liars", and/or have a motive behind coming forward; and in the majority of cases where "disposable" children are kidnapped, used/abused, they are killed. That could not happen without cooperation from agencies, departments, organizations, and private corporations in the US & abroad.

On a general basis, people who harm children have a pattern of repeating. Sixty days can be the maximum time they will go without another encounter. This is not known by the public. Teaching people on the internet to "follow desires/fetishes" is creating worse crimes as murder. We dealt with a friends children. An elder did it, while the father was gone. The people with the same problem in the area covered it up and even attacked the mother for bringing it to light. They had to move. It later turned out, that that elder had harmed multiple people in prior and later years. Good in this instance to find that the basic vocabulary/concepts to discuss it are lacking and that network pressure has to be considered. That a language interpreter is needed. Deliberate data avoidance exists. That probably could be said of more areas.

I had never heard anywhere that sex offender's re-offend within 60 days max. That is eye opening. To the outside world these communities appear as perfect. Wow.

Disgusting people. How are these poor kids going to know all this info if they do not have access to phones or any other device to call someone?
@mariekatherine5238

Before you call them disgusting, do you even know any people? As for access to phones, that is really not an issue. The issue is when there is a cult-like culture in a particular church so that even if there were a house full of phones, secrets would be kept. Believe me, nowadays, if an Amish person wants to use a phone, it’s not a problem! Many have one, especially an old style flip phone for emergencies. It’s just not really mentioned. If there’s no phone, they know people who do have one. Having a phone is not a cure for societal ills. If it were, there’d be no abuse among non-Amish, no drug addicts, alcoholics, etc. After all, they can readily look up how to get help! There is certainly more abuse in society at large than among the Amish. I can state that confidently having lived with Amish, as Amish, and still having many close Amish friends.

For thousands of years kids did not have access to phones. It is really a pretty new thing! I don't think people were disgusting until now.

Wow I'm glad I never joined the Amish, I use to think they were the most honest folks.

Most of them ARE good people. Like anyone else, there are good and a few bad apples in every barrel. But I’m curious. You don’t just “join the Amish” like you join a bowling league! The main reason for joining must be that you share their religious beliefs, not that you like the people and the lifestyle. You can emulate the lifestyle and associate yourself with good people without joining the Amish. In fact, it’s very rare for an outsider to join. It has happened, but only after years of preparation and proving yourself.
