After watching this movie 100 times I never noticed how many times the detective grabs the mom😂

"This _is_ the end, _friend_ ." Perhaps the best one-liner of a child character in film history.

The rule of thumb for when your kid makes you a special meal and you don't want to hurt their feelings, have them take the first bite. If they know it tastes awful, they won't hold it against you if you don't eat all of it.

Brad Dourif is great in everything he is. Honorable mention: Death Machine, 1994.

I had a My Buddy Doll growing up! When I was a kid my Mom once hid in the kitchen and popped out yelling "Chucky!" while throwing the doll at me. Despite that Child's Play remains one of my favorite movies. I highly recommend watching Child's Play 2. It's such a good sequel and it's finale set piece is amazing.

Brad Dourif also gives great performances in "The X-files" and "One Flew Over the Cookies Nest." For the later, he received an Oscar nomination.

Exorcist 3 is REALLY good, it's more of a sequel than the 2nd movie. Brad Dourif basically played the same character from Exorcist 3 in an X-Files episode (S01E13 - Beyond the Sea), he's excellent in it, he's also amazing in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, plays a character completely 180 apart from his usual crazy ones.

"Andy's just a normal everyday lil' buddy," perfect description of that kid, and the child actor man fan-freakin-tastic. When he was crying to be let out and that Chucky was coming to kill him made me feel so bad for the lil guy.

I love Brad Dourif. I think Alex Vincent's portrayal of Andy is one of the best performances of a child of that age, he's so believable. Definitely consider watching the sequel.

Brad Dourif was in Star Trek Voyager. He played Lon Suder, a crewman who had been (you guessed it) a serial killer. He redeemed himself in the end.

"This guy sucks!" "Oh I hate his laugh..." 🤣🤣🤣 Chucky is one of my favorite horror villains. He's foul mouthed, petty, and packs more murder per pound than any killer (except maybe Freddy, who may have no physical mass😅). Brad Dourif provides the voice and iconic laugh for Chucky (save for the reboot) and is the best part of the series until Jennifer Tilly joins.

As an 80s kid, I definitely wanted a My buddy doll! I never got one 😭 And I remember commercials on tv for Child’s Play scaring the crap out of me.

Child's Play is a classic and Chucky is a horror icon, up there with the Michael's and Freddy's easily. Yeah as an 80's baby, this traumatized me when I first watched it I just turned 5 when this came out lol I went from being scared of Chucky too obsessed with him, the next movie came out I was able to watch it fully without having to peek from the next room like I did with this movie haha. Please watch the sequels! The next movie is the best in the series!

Yes, we watched this as kids. I was 11. It was scary as hell. Hasbro stopped producing the my buddy doll after the movie came out. Pretty sure this movie tanked their sales. There was a girl doll too called Kid Sister. Bride of Chucky used her as inspiration.

Brad Dourif portrayed an insecure mental patient very well in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". There was a great TV movie from the 70's where Martin Sheen was an escaped mental patient who abducts Linda Blair, the Exorcist girl. "Sweet Hostage". They were both FANTASTIC in that. Linda admitted that she fell in love with Martin while filming it. But he was way older and married, so nothing came of it. If you're ever going to do reactions to classic TV movies, THAT would be a great one to start with.

The reason Chucky looks different as the movie progresses, is because he's turning more and more human. But in several scenes why he looks different is because they had a little person dress up as Chucky for certain scenes. When he comes down the chimney, and kicks the gate away from the fireplace, that was an actual person, they built an oversized set to make it look as normal as possible.

Brad Dourif (Chucky) is also fan-freakin-tastic in EXORCIST III, the only Excorcist sequel worth your time. 😂 and his breakout role in One Flew Over the Cukoos Nest is phenominal as well.

I was 11 when I first saw this, like shortly after it went on VHS. I still think it's hilarious, more than scary. Brad Dourif's voice as Chucky just makes it, especially when he starts swearing. Also, the cop, Chris Sarandon was in a very awesome vampire movie from 1986 called 'Fright Night". It's worth checking out and I think you would like it.

The childs play series is one of the best horror series and the actor loyalty to the brand and creator is amazing. You should really check out the rest of the series it is amazing, just not the reboot which would have been better received if they had just made it, its own thing.

Such a great reaction!! I saw this on VHS when I was 12, in 1989. At the county fair a few months later I spent all my allowance to win a Chucky doll at one of the games. Didn't traumatize me one bit, other than all the years of terrifying nightmares.

One of the best Brad Dourif films (and one of his greatest performances) is "Mississippi Burning". A true masterpiece that any movie lover should watch.

The "headband" at 18:47 is used for "electroshock therapy" (or electroconvulsion therapy, also abbreviated to ECT). It was used to "shock" people with a disability into behaving properly, because the medical world at that time was under the impression that by disrupting the electricity in the brain, things would fall into place and you could get rid of the mental disability. It was used on psychopaths, sociapaths, but also on autistic people, people with ADHD, and so forth. When it didn't work as expected, they just 'upped' the voltage, like you do with medication. This is why you often see these devices in (psychiatric) hospitals from movies in older movies, because it was pretty common from the 1600s until 1980. It took a while until this practice fell out of favor, starting in the 80s, mainly because hollywood movies actually put this practice in a bad light. To this day ECT is still being used, although for purposes with some very specific (neurological) problems, and not to the extent of how it was used in the past. Nowadays they generally require a very light shock before going home and (from what I hear from people who've experienced it) it's less painful than getting a flu shot. They consider it mostly an annoyance, but seem to actually appreciate it because it helps them with their problems, which is caused by electricity unbalance in the brains. It also seems to help with chronic depression. According to the Wikipedia page it's still being used on autistic people though. It's not mentioned, but I suppose that's being funded by _Autism Speaks_ as they try to cure autism rather than adopt it as a neurological divergence, which is the accepted theory in most of the western world. As far as I know, they don't use ECT on autistic people in Europe - or at least I haven't heard of it. *One flew over the Cuckoo's nest* That drama is worth watching. You actually know another actor from that: Jack Nicholson, which you've seen in The Shining. *Violence* Yeah, the people who claim this movie promotes violence are generally annoying people in general. They even claimed the same thing for the cartoons Tom & Jerry, Donald Duck and all kinds of other cartoons, because they all slap and kick each other as comic relief. Kids don't really look at these cartoons and put that into practice, because kids _understand_ those cartoons aren't real. Same goes for when children watch the _Child's Play_ movie; children don't actually start hitting people with baseball bats because they've watched this movie. I know, because most kids in my class watched this movie when we were young (yes, all the way back in the 1980s when we were 7 or 8) and none of us adopted that. We loved the movie for its suspense though :) Unsurprisingly, nobody complained when there was a _gun_ involved, because it's the US and everyone's allowed to have a gun. But movies involving guns have never been a bad influence on violence apparently. Sorry for the rant. It probably shows I'm not an US citizen ;) *Sequels* The sequels vary in terms of quality and people have different preferences in which ones are good or bad. I don't particularly appreciate all of them, but the second one is still pretty good.

I was definitely not the target audience when I saw this movie for the first time. I'll never forget it. I was 4 years old and I snuck down into the basement during my older sister's birthday/ Halloween party. I was so scared of Chucky. Now as a 36 year old, I love Chucky.

Completely relate to your review at the end and agree. Which is fun and interesting because I saw this when I was a kid and so many times over my life so my opinion and view of the film has slowly changed but always kept the same overall feeling. Child's Play 2 might be my fav scaryish film, if not my favorite it's easily the one that influenced me the most and that i've recommended most often. This one, the first one, blew my mind as a kid with there being such a young actor and the amount of offensive language thrown his way by a toy. So good. Thanks for the video!

Fun Fact: Aunt Maggie is portrayed by Dina Manoff, she also was Marty in the movie Grease, the one that was a "one woman uso" and hopelessly devoted to each and every one... and also was the one that suggested that they put Sandy's ear under the faucet and run cold water on it for the ear piercing scene.

That last bit...close your eyes and let your fantasy off the hook... XD

CHILD'S PLAY 1 IS GOATED

The original script of this movie didn't have the doll as the killer. That was somewhat added during production. They originally planned for Andy to be the one killing people but wasn't aware of it, suggesting he had a type of split personality and the doll itself was just a red herring to throw off the audience into being surprised when the true killer is revealed at the end. So if you go back and look at all the scenes in Chucky's perspective, the camera is about Andy's height. This was intentional because the scenes from the original script were already shot before they changed it to be a killer doll.

😂😂😂 Watching your reaction reminds me of a funny story. My friends and I went to see this one night. We went back to one of their houses to hang out and talk about the movie. What we didn't know was that his brother just got a My Buddy doll. As we were sitting around, we started paying the doll around without our friend seeing it. Once it got to the end of the couch, ml someone launched it into the air into my friend's lap. Once it landed and he saw what it was, he jumped up and started stomping the doll's head in. We were laughing so hard we couldn't stop him. Of course, the next day, we had to replace the doll but it was worth it.

That cop's got his feet up on the table like he owns the joint.

"Maggie" played Elaine on the late '70's TV show "Soap". That was a very funny parody of soap operas.

this movie is so much scary fun. pure classic. as much as you, and most everyone here, don't waste your time with the sequels. it all goes downhill after this. also, need to watch "Fright Night" with Chris Sarandon. definitely one of the best and most fun vampire movies ever.

I remember seeing this in a theater with a cute foreign exchange student from Norway. She screamed so loud when Chucky first came to life. Good times.

Brad Dourif is one of my favorite actors as well. If you ever just want to watch a single episode of "Babylon 5" the one with Brad is called "Gethsemane." It's my favorite episode, which is saying something as the later seasons had a LOT of good episodes. As for a movie (aside from "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", of course) I LOVE the David Lynch "Dune" (1984). I know that many don't, but I do. The music by TOTO is so much better than the "music" in the latest iteration.

Brad Dourif has been in so many shows and movies. LotR, Dune (1984), one of the Alien movies, one of the exorcist movies, but then he's been in Star Trek Voyager, Fringe, Babylon 5, Tales of the Unexpected, X-Files, even Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He doesn't always play such interesting characters, but he makes his characters memorable! Personally, I think the Grima Wormtongue character is the most misunderstood characters in LotR. He's hopelessly in love with Eowyn. It's fatalistic, but who hasn't ever been there before? He's willing to do whatever he needs to to get her. He isn't that appealing, some is "looked over." And yet, when he sees the results of his actions, he is stunned and eventually has enough to grow a backbone to kill Sauroman. Brad Dourif is SO underrated.

Brad Douriff's daughter is also an exceptionally excellent actor.

It’s definitely effective. The first is probably the most suspenseful and scary, but the sequels have some cool concepts and scenes, and Chucky is a fun character.

This whole series is a lot of fun. And with that many movies, there are surprisingly few missteps. Even the remake was not as bad as people say. Apparently there's a show, but I've not had the time to watch it yet.
