Sometimes choosing to be childfree can very much be influenced by financial reasoning. With the rise in things like childcare, more and more individuals are waiting longer or optioning out of parenthood all together simply because it's no longer affordable. In today's video, we discuss not only the costs of childcare these days but how it influences and affects various parts of our lives.

Me, cackling that I save $30-40k a year on childcare costs alone simply by not having kids. Defeat capitalism with this one neat trick.

Not even just child care. The overall cost of living and inflation is getting absurd. Wages never keep up with any of the inflation. Yet we still have people pushing others to have children, governments shaming people for decreasing birthrates and even banning abortion, banning birth control and axing sex education. How do they expect people to afford kids when they can hardly afford living themselves. It's dystopian AF. They'll subsidise meat, oil, the automotive industry, muskrat space LARPing, etc etc but they won't subsidise things that actually matter. It's messed up. I'm thankful every single day that I made the decision in my teens to be childfree. Thanks for another great video 😊💚

Right. They definitely need to subsidize staple crops and nutritious plant based foods. Remove subsidies from businesses that are failing to keep up. Dairy wastes tax payer money. Literally millions of gallons dumped cause not enough customers actually purchased dairy. We should be giving more money to housing and sex education. Heck anatomy and physiology should be taught in high school for every student. No restrictions

Here in Turkiye, the situation is even dire. The very visible upper class all have a nanny (and a 'maid') and they compete about which country their nanny comes from. If it is x country, it's a 'oh that's unacceptable', but if the nanny happens to be from country y, 'wow, you are the best mom'. The kids are brought up by these English speaking nannies, even if the mother/father is a stay-at-home parent. The kids then go to private kindergarten, primary school, high school etc. Each costing 20.000-60.000 dollars a year. US dollars in Turkiye! Majority of the parents on the other side of the financial line, use grandparents and other family to take care of the kids. It is simply the way, you can't say no, you have to take care of family. No one dares talk about how annoying or exhausting that is. That's why I try to be as loud as possible about reminding people that not having children is also a choice. Plus people having kids in Istanbul ... I think they must be mentally unstable. The city is expecting devastating earthquakes. 600.000 buildings are expected to collapse, meaning city will be inhabitable, economy will collapse etc. Bringing a child into that? No thank you.

I have over 100 reasons as to why I don’t want marriage nor children. This is actually my top reason for being single/unmarried and childfree, marriage and children are way too expensive. Children need food, clothes, diapers, toys, daycare, school supplies, leisure activities, field trips and college/university educations which would cost a huge amount of money. Also, romantic partnership is expensive because when you are dating and being in a relationship, you have to buy restaurant dinners, movie tickets, flowers and gifts. It is way too expensive to get married. I work a dead end job and I live with a roommate in a 2 bedroom apartment for cheap rent. I can barely take care of myself, so I am remaining single/unmarried and childfree and I have zero regrets at 40 years old.

this was the biggest issue for my husband and I, we just couldn't figure out how to make children work financially. (amongst other things) we both work full time, and it was either one of us quite and cut our income in half or pay $1600 + a month is childcare. I would also feel really weird having a child and expecting extended family to watch my kid. Also i know a ton of people who had a child and didn't expect how expensive they were and now live pay check to pay check. So I 100% agreed children are a luxury now, and I think people who are having kids in this economy and state of the world are crazy.......

Not having children is how I'm breaking my family's curse. Growing up, we skirted the edge of poverty. Heck, we still do. It didn't have to be that way. But certain people either kept getting pregnant or getting their wife pregnant. Which meant the rest of the family was stressed from struggling to support their bad decisions.

In AZ childcare costs $1900-2000 and with the salaries that jobs offer, you'd have to have two jobs or be a sahm only if your spouse is rich enough to provide which is unrealistic nowadays. More reasons to stay child-free IMO.

This is true! I have two kids under 5 and we can’t afford just my husbands income so I have to work at my kid’s daycare so we get a discount on their tuition rate. This was the only option available for us, at least until I finish college and get a higher paying job. Yes, it is our fault that I didn’t finish college first before kids, if I did then daycare cost would’ve been fine. And if we didn’t have any debt we could definitely afford living just off my husbands income, so that’s our fault as well.. just some thoughts.

My daycare wouldn’t even let me use my one week vacation allowance for a funeral I have to attend. They said they needed more of a notice. I pay $2000 a month. And I’d love to tell the school owner how much of a B she is, but the school is really good and they have a waitlist. So I have to to take the loss, no credit no nothing. This doesn’t even count all the days my son has not attended because he got sick from daycare.

@@diaryofthechildfree Thanks. The decision has already been made, though. I already have two adult kids but now we have a new baby with my new partner. She had a bit of baby fever. After being with me for two years she felt it was a bit unfair that I had my kids and memories of raising them while not embarking on the same adventure with her. I suppose age is not really an excuse if you want to be with a younger woman. For now it's easier than it was as a young dad. However, I would really like to leave it at one this time.
