G.K. Chesterton, in his 1908 book 'Orthodoxy,' describes how when he was a boy, many told him that his ideals would eventually “break up like clouds” and that he’d be forced to put his real faith in simple, practical politics. He writes:
“What has really happened is exactly the opposite. … I have not lost my ideals in the least; my faith in fundamentals is exactly what it always was. What I have lost is my old childlike faith in practical politics."

Right on! Marvelous, succinct, true--and needed! Ever grateful for my late (1916-2006) poet-historian father Peter Viereck introducing me to G.K. Chesterton, along with Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Reinhold Niebuhr, George MacDonald, Isaiah 55...

Just a pity the so called christians of Russia, Ukraine, the KKK and so on who fight for ideals rather than stay neutral don’t feel the same.

GKC is right. Once our hope is in Christ, it only seems to grow stronger as our understanding grows broader. Another great video, as always.

No, you’re just telling yourself something you want to hear.

@@2l84me8 "...things I want to hear..." Do you mean things like I should be faithful to one woman my whole life? And that I should like her like Christ loved the church (in other words, I should be willing to die for her even if she is unfaithful)? Is that something I WANT to hear? Or maybe you mean things like repaying evil with kindness. Or maybe you think I like hearing that I should forgive the person who steals from me and willing to give him/her even more. Do you REALLY think those are things people WANT to hear? Most people that I've met who say I'm just telling myself what I want to hear, have never read the Bible and certainly haven't understood it. Come on in, 2l84, the water is not just fine, it's better than you have ever imagined. You are welcome here.

@@scillyautomatic I have no idea what you’re trying to say here, but I suggest you stop cherry-picking your religion and observe the facts that the church attendance is indeed shrinking every year. I’ve read your bible already and found it to be a poorly written, inconsistent series of empty claims that advocated slavery, though policing and genocide.

@@scillyautomatic No rebuttal? That’s what I thought. I expected nothing and you still managed to let me down.

"Justification is by grace through faith in Christ alone" is a statement of Faith by the denomination that this video is made by. Please show me where in the Bible this word "ALONE" appears? John Calvin and Martin Luther were the main 2 humans who applied this concept of Faith Alone or Faith Only through Grace which "also" is NOT taught in the Bible. Where does the Reformed ideas that 98% of ALL denominations use as doctrine? In the hundreds of thousands of commentaries which have been compiled by "so-called Reformed Calvinistic Theologians since 1536 when Calvin made his first "Eisegesis" commentary to the HOLY BIBLE which was inspired by God and no one else! The Bible warns against accepting false doctrines and Calvin and Luther's doctrines are "STILL" not found within the Bible's pages, so why does your doctrine accept it?

Where in the Bible does the word Trinity appear? The particular word itself is not the essence of a doctrine, but the truth/concept itself. The ALONE is to rule out any notion that works earn us saving merit with God...something taught by the Roman Catholic Church then and now. Romans 3:20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin & Ephesians 2:8-10 are a good place to start to see that justification/being declared righteous before the Holy God of the universe must be based on a utterly free gift (gift) through the instrument of trust only (faith). Blessings! :-)
