My Childrens Python, Beatrice, is now a year old. She is a Python is every way. I recall when she arrived. The box was so very light and the snake bag within felt empty. Beatrice was the tiniest little creature, yet she was a real snake. She has never refused prey. A pleasure to take her out for snake enrichment. It has been a pleasure to have a Childrens Python in my snake family.

Hi Clint. Just wanted to let you know that, in no small part because of your channel, I am now the owner of a tiny, adorable little Children's python. Not only is it the first snake I've ever cared for, but also the first reptile. She is absolutely enchanting, and I feel such pride when she feeds. That may sound odd, but when you're a noodle with a head that's only the size of a pencil, 'catching' and coiling your food seems pretty heckin' bold. Keep up the great work! 😀

I consider Children's/Spotteds to be the perfect starter snake for a beginner that wants to learn some skills that transfer to more serious animals. They are hardy and forgiving of mistakes, but they have serious food responses and other behaviors that will teach you to read snakes. They are a lot of snake in a tiny package.

@N0sf3r4tuR1s3n 7 месяцев назад
The idea of a python with reasonable enclosure requirements and that won't outgrow mice (cheaper than rats) with a good feeding response sounds really good. This should be a much more widely bred snake. I like smaller snakes because I want them to live in a bioactive enclosure with ample space, that's more reasonable to achieve with a smaller snake.

As an Aussie children's pythons are one of my options for first snake, I have to look after a beginner species first (I'm probably going Beardie) but after I've had them for 2 years I can upgrade my reptile keeper's licence and get some other species including the children's python. I met one in high school and it took a liking to me (insisting on moving to my arm so I showed it to the rest of the class) this python is why I fell in love with snakes, I loved the feel of him on my arm.

I'd love to see a video on Stimson's pythons one day, though I'm not sure if they're available over in the US like they are here. Here in Perth they're THE "beginner" snake as they're super friendly, small and easy to care for. Picked up our children's python a couple of months ago (In Queensland Australia) such a beautiful snake with gorgeous rainbow reflections. Incredible nature and is very docile and relaxed even with my 8 and 11 year old kids. Amazing pet snake.

Always enjoy your videos. I think it really helps to put each animals care into honest perspective to people who are looking into these amazing creatures. There are not many places where you can get complete honest info wether or not you can provide the correct and proper care for these animals to thrive not just survive. A lot of people selling animals make their husbandry and care sound super easy so people are more likely to purchase that animal which is so sad because then these beautiful animals suffer. You should make a video on all of the antaresia since they're care ia very similar. Like you said childrens pythons and the rest of the Antaresia are very underrated. Have a good day

Why, hello there, Clint! I discovered your channel relatively recently, and I've been going on a binge watch of all your videos; just wanted to say, I appreciate your passion and excitement about reptiles, and it's been very fun, and very educational, learning about some animals even I didn't know about as a fellow ectothermic creature fan, haha FOR EXAMPLE: I've been considering a snake as a pet after my current beardie eventually passes away (hopefully not for at least a few more years, I've had him since he was about a month old, and that was 7 years ago), but I didn't know what I wanted to go with. I know the ball python is usually a pretty safe bet for a first time snake owner, but seeing this adorable little critter? I know what my next pet is gonna be. Thanks Clint, keep bein' awesome!

My big brother used 2 have a children's python and whenever he would give the tank a bit of a clean he would let me hold him. He was such a friendly snake and I loved him alot xD

This is it however though, this is in fact the perfect pet snake for me. I'm going to college currently in living with my parents who are mortified of snakes however after showing them this video and seeing how small this little python is we come to an agreement that it would be okay if I got one. I've wanted a ball python for a while but I can definitely settle for this pint-sized beauty!

I had a children’s python as my first snake, and he was a wonderful companion. He was so chill, loved to climb me or would slip up the sleeve of a long shirt I was wearing and rest his head on my shoulder. He was also so small he would like to ride around in my pocket sometimes. I had no idea they were hard to find at first, since we found him in a pet store, but I haven’t really seen another children’s python since him

@@lsuhillary Just curious, where are you getting yours from? I was trying to find smaller breeders online, but couldn't find any.

raelonewolf Weeelll, I was in the same boat. I was leery of the larger breeders as well. Then I posted in my local Facebook reptile classifieds group and asked about them. I got a response from a local guy who breeds just at the hobby level and he had some Stimson’s pythons that were about to hatch in May and had an extra one for sale! Maybe give that a shot if you are a member in any of the online forums? Another thing I would say is maybe take a look at all the Australian Antaresia pythons, that may help broaden your search? They are all basically the same just vary in pattern and native locality. I have done some research in a couple of groups, including a Tumblr page that collected breeder complaints and experiences, and as far as a big breeder I have heard XYZ is reputable, as well as NERD. BUT I don’t know from personal experience. Good luck and I hope to hear you found one! My little guy needs two more rounds of eating pinkies and he will get to come home to Momma!❤️🐍

@@lsuhillary Thanks for the info! I can't get one yet (have to move out first -- my sister is squeamish about snakes, particularly what they eat), but I will definitely have to join a reptile forum or group and try what you suggested once I'm able to get one! Congrats on the new scaly baby!

Amazing video But for all you fellow Australians the children’s pythons score will be 4.4 stars Handle ability: 4 stars Care: 4 stars Hardness: stars Availability: 5 stars this snake is literally every we’re here in Australia if you live in the northern states you might find them in your backyard. If you live in SA, Vic, NSW, Tasmania, or southern WA you can just find them in literally every pet store or just go on gumtree. Upfront cost: 5 stars pretty cheap you can find them anywhere form $30 AUD on gumtree to $120 AUD at a expensive pet store.

Love those little guys, I have a pair of similar pythons called Stimson pythons, they get a little bigger and look and behave very much the same, hope to have a clutch of eggs in about three weeks, fingers crossed. great video thanks Clint.

My darling Childrenii, Calypso is the most adorable wee snake. She is really friendly, spunky and responsive. I am so pleased you have spoken about the childrens in a positive whilst also accurate manner. I also have a Stimsonii and a big boy, a Diamond. But I would stress, a Childrens is not a ‘mini carpet’. And YES in Australia we do LOVE our childrens pythons. But childrens python ‘morphs’ are problematic when they are being bred for morphs; they are too ‘fragile’ to have they genetics played with too much. And they do better on hopper rats than mice. Many childrens are shy feeders, and they like to hide amongst rocks, and are often nocturnal: and absolutely they are escapologists! As an Australian Harper, I would place the childrens python as a 4.5 out of 5 reptile: with the caveat that they can be ‘snappy’ as juvies if not handled appropriately and they can be too delicate for kids or inexperienced keepers.

I love snakes but also have a passion for rats too. Honestly, this little noodle would be my first go to for a snake since they stay so small. It’s adorable!

Clint got so excited about these that I ended up getting one as my first pet snake, and 10/10 can confirm that they're really cool. My Astral is still very young and bites me a lot, but he's SO handsome and so much fun to watch. He's too small to really hurt me because he's so young, so I don't mind him taking a go at my hand when I pick him up. He does fall off of my hand sometimes, but I think he's still learning. We also put him in a 50 gallon tank, but he would do just fine in a 15 or 20 if you needed to, honestly.

Please make a video about African House Snakes (e.g Boaedon capensis), they are so underrepresented but are beautiful angels. They actually look and act similar to children's pythons but with a better temperament and the easiest care requirements.

your best bet for children's python information is australian websites! they're widly considered a keeper's first snake here, due to their availability and being one of the few smaller snakes.

This is a python species that’s ticks many boxes for me. The two most important ones being that it’s too small to ever strangle me if I was handling it solo and it is more easily available where I live than a lot of the reptiles featured on this channel due to me living in the country they’re from.

I love the Antaresia species, currently keep Spotteds (Maculosa), Pygmys (Perthensis) and Pygmy Banded Pythons. Childreni are next on the list and will be adding Stimsoni at some stage as well. Fantastic little snakes.
