Wudang Mountains in central China is one of the centres of Taoism, and the cradle of tai chi, a martial art affiliated with the religion. Referred to as “moving meditation”, tai chi is getting popular in fast-paced Chinese cities. Authorities in the Wudang Mountains in Hubei Province have made an ambitious plan to create a special zone to promote health preservation, martial arts, Taoist medicine, and tourism. The mountains’ tourism has seen a strong recovery from the pandemic with about 420,000 visitors arriving in the first quarter.

An appeal of Tai Chi is that, if one cannot stop the flow of endless mental chatter, at least one can start by slowing them down. In doing so, one begins to experience an "expanse" or opening of the heart and spirit.

Just tourists attraction, at best it will be like new Yoga and the setting is for influencers and tourists looking to take photos and videos. Taoism is dead there.

Not true. Granted that in the tourist zones, the Tai Chi and King Fu will be mostly forms but there are temples away from those areas where you can learn real Daoism, and importantly internal alchemy. And I say this as a (Western) disciple of one of them.

And I say this as someone who doesn't have to type my credentials online: all the valid Taoism &gongfu masters left mainland several decades ago during cultural revolution. Monks? Temples are the same, they ran away. The books that can be smuggled out of mainland, many of them disappeared. You can be disciple all you want, just know that you won't be the next Bruce Lee or the next Huo YuanJia or Wong FeiHung.

Why not? It is normal for foreigners to come to China to learn their martial arts. Once finished with their training, thet either went back home to open their gym, or stay and became an instructor.

MMA sole purpose is for combat and winning fights. Many leave MMA with a battered body with many injuries cant say the same for Tai Chi.

the fighting style is a lost art, thanks to book burning. only 2 form remains out of 7 on the fist style, I don't see how effective can it be having 1/3 of your skill in fighting real combat. so no.
