to the question of if the verticality is the answer to future of cities: not everywhere. a lot of places are rather expanding outwards, than upwards, and surely there are lot of NIMBY's in many places ( especially in US), however I believe that dense urbanism is more sustainable, with dense low and mid-rises, also walkability is very important aspect in the cities. However there will surely be more vertical urbanism in the future, especially in City Centres and surely it looks cool!

Great point! I agree that dense urbanism, with a balance of low and mid-rises, plays a crucial role in sustainability and enhancing walkability, which is key for livable cities. Verticality, especially in city centers, definitely has its place, and as you mentioned, it looks incredible! I think the future will see a blend of both-cities expanding outward in some regions while others push the boundaries of vertical living and design. It's fascinating to see how different urban models evolve around the world. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

chongqing only developed a distinct identity because of its non negotiable landscapes, not because of its architecture. architecturally its still very much an identity-less non place as most international cities are.

@SkylineChina 23 часа назад
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! While Chongqing's landscape plays a huge role in its identity, from our experience when we visited the city, we didn't feel it as a "non place." Its mix of cultural and modern architecture reflected a very unique identity for us. In fact, it was one of the most shocking cities we visited in China.

@@SkylineChina sure it might have a generic asian feel compared to generic american cities, but they don't stand out from each other architecturally in the same way that each individual european city can have a completely different design language and identity (excluding modern developments). i don't think you can point to any individual building or building style in chongqing and say that this is what makes it distinct from everywhere else, the city's distinctive feel is purely the product of the same generic buildings being arranged in a distinct landscape. take a random street in hong kong or chongqing or shanghai and its unlikley you'd be able to guess at which city you're in, unlike looking at the houses in london compared to edinburgh or yorkshire for example, hong kong, chongqing and shanghai only become recognisable when you zoom out and see the city in its landscape.

I actually haven't heard about this city. Your video has left me really stunned. And the questions you put on the table are quite concerning for the near future in other countries all around the world. Only time will tell...

I cannot even fancy how it should be living in such a populated city... Maybe are we completely losing the contact with nature? A lot of questions on this kind fo urbanistic developments...
@SkylineChina

Thanks for your thoughtful comment! It's definitely a unique experience living in a city like Chongqing, with its dense population and vertical growth. While it may seem overwhelming, many of these urban developments are actually incorporating green spaces and sustainable design to reconnect with nature, even in such a massive city. Balancing urbanization and nature is a big challenge, but it's something that cities like Chongqing are working towards.

The city should have parks just like anywhere. If people like nature they shouldn't be living in a city.

@@ahmedzakikhan7639 Thanks for your comment! We believe parks are essential in cities, they provide a much-needed balance between urban life and nature. Even in a city, access to green spaces improves the quality of life and well-being. It’s all about creating a healthy environment for everyone, whether you're drawn to the city or nature.

Because of land area ? Am sure Shang Hai is the largest in terms of urban population
@SkylineChina
@SkylineChina 23 часа назад
@@ahmedzakikhan7639 Actually, the municipality of Chongqing is the largest city in the world by population, though Chongqing is not the most populous urban area. The municipality has over 30 million, this number includes its large rural population. In 2020, Chongqing surpassed Shanghai as China's largest municipality by urban population; as of 2022, it has an urban population of 22.8 million.
