U.S. and Chinese officials met again at the recent Munich Security Conference as part of efforts to deescalate tensions between the two powers. But Taiwan continues to be a sticking point. While U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken called for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi insisted the U.S. reject "Taiwan independence" and support the so-called reunification of China and Taiwan in order to achieve peace. We ask whether China is shifting and sharpening its rhetoric on Taiwan.
