China is a very large country, and I am only Chinese American, so I cannot say for sure that every faucet is clean. Generally though, most tap water is very clean and drinkable. However, in poorer regions, the water quality may not be as strong. Perhaps one area had bad tapwater and it gained widespread publicity like a Flint situation? Anyways, it's been a pleasure talking to you, and I hope that Chinese and Africans can both continue to improve and spread positivity.
