As one of the most famous shopping streets in Shanghai, it was teeming with people, more so than ever before. Shanghai is an international city with too many people. I have lived in China for one year, the streets are very clean, the Chinese are very friendly, they observe public order, and there are no homeless people. I have also been to several rural areas where the construction is very good, especially the roads, high-speed trains, and subways, which are very new and modern. This is completely different from the negative image of China portrayed in the American media.

还记得去年韩国发生拥挤造成的踩踏事件么？死亡158人，受伤了很多人。中国大陆上海市，在2014年12月31日也发生过踩踏事件，36人死亡，49人受伤。事后，中国大陆各个城市吸取经验，为节假日人员聚集的活动设置了很多危机预防措施。上海踩踏事件后，死伤者获得国家赔偿，事件发生地区的政府官员因为没有预见性，被认定工作失职，很多人被撤职

Actaully there was a stampede at Shanghai in 2014 new year's eve, caused dozens of death. From then on, such measures are being taken in public holidads to avoid similar tragedy.

Is this due to the holiday I was reading about? As much as it is inconvenient for you when traveling, it does show the community spirit to go out and enjoy their freedom outside. Also I enjoy the fact that police don't carry guns and don't wear kevlar vests to give the appearance they are an invading force. In China the police are regular members of the community, in Canada, they have a mentality of "us vs them", and the "them" are the most vulnerable citizens and our kids. You may notice that these “armed police officers” and police in the video are not carrying any weapons. China is a gun-controlled country, which is a huge benefit of gun control. Law enforcement officers do not have to worry about being attacked by guns, and the public does not have to worry about law enforcement overreacting and using weapons.

My parents were pure Shanghaiese. Although I was born overseas I felt connected. My proudest moment was in my first trip to Shanghai I stood on the bank of Putong and looking across the river at Pushi and the famous bunk. Also a few landscape buildings which were still standing majestically. I went there in the night specially to go to bar with a senior musicians still keeping the nights in high spirit with the old favourites. Shanghai the ‘Paris if the East’ is still alive and kicking!!

Honestly Paris nowadays doesn't compare to Shanghai. It's dirty, messy, dangerous to tourists, thieves etc... In Shanghai you can at least expect to find your laptop you left at a fast food store, but in Paris you have to keep your hands near your pocket at all times in busy areas to ensure it won't get pick pocketed.

Besides Shanghai has more than doubled the population of Paris, and that's even with France's loose immigration policies. Great video. I notice that people are seldom fat over there. Yet their streets are bursting with cafes, restaurants and other food venders, including vending machines everywhere. I saw yesterday a video that compared the SAME product by the same companies in America and in the UK. The ingredient list was very different. Other countries often do not allow all the crap chemicals and sugars that we do, along with other ingredients. They use sugar over there, not corn syrups. It pays to think about how the U.S. industries make us fat. Additionally, in China, they eat a lot of vegetables and fruit, which has fiber, an undigestible part of the food, so it adds no calories plus moves food along faster through our systems. It appears there is far more walking, too.

But you still couldn’t rule out the reason that vegetables are cheaper than meat in China while tourists in the video are from all parts of China where many of them are blue collars or others with relatively lower pay so that they might be thinner not becoz of healthy diet but rather becoz of hard work😊

I think the Shanghai authorities see the need to strictly implement human traffic control in order to prevent stampede, which had occurred recently in a number Asian cities-South Korea, Indonesia and India

I like seeing that the police here is doing ordinary useful stuff instead of blowing everyone's brains out or doing nasty power games like in a "certain" country. For those who don’t understand what going on with the much crowds, May 1st is one of our public holidays in China. Holidays last for five days, so the tourists are flocking into big cities or other attractions all over China after the pandemics. So, yeah... that’s what happens when China finally came over from the last depressing three years.

I just came back from Shanghai on May 1. My suggestions don’t go to those tourist attraction sites. The rest of areas are quite okay. Like those shopping malls in徐家汇. I also went to the library and Shanghai movie museum. Another reason why it’s not so crowded I think it’s because they implemented booking system

Two Golden Weeks in China: May Day Holiday (05/01-05/07) & National Day Holiday (10/01-10/07) should be avoided when planning your travel in China. Otherwise, you'll see people crowd only and pay twice or thrice of money on food and lodging. But glad to see the life is back to normal everywhere already.
