I grew these for the first time this year. I didn't know what to expect, so I was a little surprised by how it went. In this video, I'll show them as they grow, then we will harvest some and do a little taste test of some. I will also let you know what I think of the ones that I cooked.
One thing you should know about Chinese Python Snake Beans is that they aren't beans at all, they are edible gourds.
If I could give you one tip about growing them, it would be that you need to make sure you have plenty of room. Once they start growing, they will grow to be very long vines.

Our family lived in Papua New Guinea years ago and we bought these "beans" at the market all the time. We loved them in stir fry and one long bean fed our family of 5 easily. I just found the seeds on Baker Creek and am so excited to grow this family favorite.

I was looking for snake gourd seeds and chanced upon your video. Very informative. I am originally from India. When growing them back home, we tie small seeds to the tips of the gourds when they are small so that they grow long without getting twisted. We harvest them when they are approx 3 feet long. If the seeds have developed, we scrape them with a spoon before cooking. Generally we cook them with lentils.

Hii this is called snake guard in India and after it grows to a medium size that is while its tender you can harvest them and you should scrape off the first layer on the gaurd with a knife by Just scratching on it to reveal the edible gaurd inside and get off from the strong smell of the gaurd then you can clean it, chop it and stir fry it with a pice of butter and Salt and and pepper and also you can add milk if you want and the taste of the final product will be delicious. And you can use it as add on to other vegetables, it is one of our favorite vegetables in some parts of southern India. And one of my personal favourite while its tender the seeds are edible tooo. It will taste the best when its cooked the right way.
