A last minute visit to the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway in Oxfordshire for a steam and diesel running day.
Upon arriving at Princes Risborough main line station, I went through the gates directly onto the C&PRR platform, boarding my train to take me to Chinnor.
Motive power was from 4144, a GWR 41xx, built in 1946 at Swindon. The loco is usually found at the Didcot Railwwy Center, but is often seen on loans or hiring, alongside Chinnor it has visited the Severn Valley and the Kent & East Sussex.
Although the railway is ‘crammed in’ a bit, they have made use of all available space, with the steam and diesel swapping at Chinnor it gave opportunity to see the fantastic GWR style signalling in operation. After a stroll around Chinnor, the steam hauled service took me back to Princes Risborough where I boarded my train to go home.
A thoroughly enjoyable morning and afternoon on this wonderful little line. Only 50 mins / 1h from Londons Marylebone along the Chiltern Mainline.
