Who wouldn't love Chow Yun Fat, he's not only handsome, charming, tough, talented , one of the most bankable richest celebrity in HK but his Generosity and Humility is quite admirable !! you can see it on his character, how he talks and projects himself to people that he worked with, and how he like helping other people , making them cry and be happy , and how he shared his knowledge about film making...BTW, his English is excellent !!! He deserved to win this lifetime achievement award more than any person in the entire film industry...I have huge respect honor love and admiration for CYF since I started watching his old films as a kid ..... Love him as a respectable man not only as a world class Chinese actor.... 😍👏👏👏❤❤❤
As far as I can remember, Chow Yun Fat is the only actor from Hong Kong to be famous in America that is not a Gung Fu star like Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li & Sammo Hung. He is an Action Star!!!
I have been a huge admirer of this man in films for over 35 years; I have the utmost respect for Mr Chow as a fantastic and wonderful human being. He has been an inspiration to me.
I really miss my channel AZN... So many good memories and my introduction to Korean dramas, Japanese soaps, and Chinese movies. It introduced me to not only a lot of East Asian cinema but some gems from Southeast Asia.
It took place between the age of 35 to 55. Imo that is when a man is at his best.To be honest I should extend that to 65 for him. That man still has it going on.

I bet nobody back in Hong Kong in the 70s ever in their wildest dreams could imagine CYF receiving this honor in the US someday. Not even Chow. That's when he started acting in HK tv.
i have to watch more of his movies. He is AWESOME! and i really enjoyed Fuqua's Broklynn's FInest. really fine directing. Also, Tarantino is definatly one of the finest filmmakers in the industry. i can't wait to see what else he has in store. sadly i haven't seen Pirates. :(
@Y2Kuttah Thats what they do, even rap music was done in Hong Kong first, but the blacks picked it up and past it on as their own creation. and drum and bass was inspired by the drum beats of the chinese lion dance!

In a May 7, 1998 interview with Howard Stern, Quentin Tarantino went on a mini-rant about the coolness of (his girlfriend) Mira Sorvino and the loser-ness of CYF in The Replacement Killers. CYF ruined the movie, Tarantino said. "If you're going to make an American movie with a great actor like Mira, f*ckin' learn English." Makes me wanna poke him in the eye. @Y2Kuttah Tarantino is not a talentless hack. He's a legendary filmmaker. Just because he didn't like his lack of english in that one movie doesn't mean he doesn't like him otherwise. And even if he did hate Chow Yun Fat, it shouldn't be a reason for you to hate him.
@zacuh17 The debate there could be that a lot of people refer to Tarantino as a "genius" for ideas that he himself didn't actually conceive, and that you aren't really brilliant if you just rearrange the story, regardless of if he acknowledges it.
Maybe he made a mistake to focus in Hollywood. His movie in here is not very good. He plays mainly supporting role. Andy Lau should thank him for that cause without him in the Hong Kong movie industry...Andy Lau turns out to be a super star.
@Y2Kuttah Dude, Tarantino doesn't "steal". He says it himself all of the time "I take from everyone movie ever made". He is simply homaging it, and than rearranging the story in a way that is different than before with different actors and different dialog. So the last sentence in you're comment is immature. Grow up.

I love how they had that talentless hack "Tarantino" presenting him with the award... The same man who claimed that Chow Yun Fat was rubbish in his Replacement Killers and ruined the film because he couldn't speak English properly. Yeah, maybe he doesn't speak fluent English, but at least he doesn't have to steal everyone else's work and pass it off as his own.
@stimpackedangelking His opinion of CYF does not dictate my opinion on QT. I am not a mindless moron. QT is about as legendary as AIDS, that's not a good thing. He has made a career out of ripping off more obscure films and trying to pass it off as an homage. I could not care less what QT thinks about anybody, he's nothing but a thief. Granted, a thief who writes decent dialogue, but that doesn't stop him stealing entire scenes. You may overlook that, but many others don't.
