@@samuelluria4744 The 88-89 Flames were one of the best teams I've ever seen. Absolutely stacked with talent-- Mullen, Gilmour, Fleury, MacInnis, Loob, Nieuwendyk, McDonald, Otto, Roberts, Suter, Vernon. The list goes on and on --- Kings fan since 73.
A little less respect when you go re-watch, and realize it was Richter who carried them, and Canada didn't have Mario. Completely different result if Canada has their full line-up
@@chadroffel3250 Brett Hull is Canadian, born in Belleville, Ontario. He obtained duel citizenship later in life, and plated for the US because Team Canada snubbed him. He is never really talked about as one of America's greatest players because he is Canadian born. Next, Lafontaine scored more points in a season than Roenick or Modano ever did, (148) & was just a better all around player. Roenicks best? 107 points. Modano's? 93 pts. So again, neither of them were even close to a prime LaFontaine!
What no Patrick Kane . To me he is the best American born hockey player ever . 400 plus goals . Stanley cup winning goals . Never having a bad year . Three Stanley Cup Championship’s. Best stick hands I’ve ever seen. Chelios how could you leave him out . When was this radio broadcast ?
@JayRo-xp1nt other then this year he's missed significant time, also just because he's playing doesn't mean he's not injured to point he's protective like he should be.
@@lancenorman2632 this year . He was good every year prior . Never regressed . Over 400 goals . Freezes defenses with his stick control . Great passer great shot maker in many ways . In every hole some ridiculous angle wise . Even Toews regressed . Not Kane . Last year was a hard year no doubt for obvious reasons . But even in recent years when the team sucked he didn’t . We don’t win one championship without Patrick Kane . And those teams back then were so good . Three defensive lines all good. Kane Toews Keith being the big three . Keith my god what a motor and the minutes he played was off the charts . And of course Crawford
@@travzimmerman1340 Easy, his 1.17 points per game (1,013 points over 865 games) is the best among American-born ice hockey players, active or retired.
Chill out obviously he was referencing people he played with he never played against Kane (maybe in his last year with Atlanta im too lazy to look it up lmao) but still
@@realranger6297 when anyone, let alone a former player, makes a list of “best ever”, regardless of what it is about, and then decides to only name players he knows/played with? Ya, that’s a joke
@@Thatrandomdude1315 no it's not, it's hearing the opinion of an NHL great. What you think his list has to line up with yours? Zoomers and their desire for absolute conformity is a joke. It's literally his opinion. Imagine thinking you can talk down to a hall of famer because he forgot Kane while having a chat.
Wasn't into hockey when JR played, but when I went back and researched some of his highlights and statistics, I was blown away. That dude pissed somebody off not to be in the hall.
Top 5 is difficult.. Modano, Leetch, Chelios, Tkachuk, LaFontaine, Roenick, Housely, Kane, Broten, Mullen, Quick, Miller, Hull if you count him as American. Matthews if he stays healthy. Take your pick. All great---Kings fan since 73
Nah, not best mathews probaly better just needs a few years to match longevity if his career, also you have better players like Mike m, who's a centre who plays better d, and played well on some terrible stars teams.
@Sam-xu3xq mathews is a lot younger in career mathews and will likely be 500 goals and 1000 assist players when done. With at least 10 health years, he could have more cups and hardware. I think mathews will be a better player in time if he's healthy, and mathews plays a much harder position. I'm not saying kanes not good but as winger and the fact he will be passed in regular season points at the end proves he's better individually.
I did work at Chris's old house years after he sold it. A lot of his game room stuff is still there so I got to play table tennis down there and play miniature golf in his old hockey rink room in the basement. 😃👍
Him and my uncle john grew up together playing hockey till high school (chelly went to catholic hs on scholarship) my mom went to school with his sister and dated his brother who was friends with my dad ironically both named steve.😅 southside everybody knows everybody and their families.
Kind of amazing how few superstars the US has really produced over the years. A decent amount of mid-tier talent but still outshined by countries like Sweden and even Finland, to say nothing of how Canada and Russia put them to shame.
I did a video recently on Thachuk not getting into the Hall of Fame, and definitely think he had the regular season stats for it but not the postseason, by any stretch.
Wow solid choice. 500 goals and over a PPG. Also still blows me away he’s from Hell’s Kitchen Manhattan, and managed to become a pro hockey player. Nowadays with the over obsession with youth hockey, kids train and travel like professionals literally by age 7- meaning of a great athlete isn’t in the exactly perfect situation, he won’t come close to making pros.
The best era of US hockey is now and in the near future. They are stacked with prime and upcoming talent. Canada is producing the mega stars still like McDavid, Makar and Bedard... but the overall talent of the two nations is tipping south.
Austin Matthews doesn't have the resume to be on this list, but, he'll be there before he's done. Seems especially funny to omit Kane given the Blackhawk connection.
Jonathan Quick is the greatest American goalie of all time. 3 stanley cups, 2 William Jennings trophies, and arguably the greatest stanley cup playoff performance by a goalie EVER! Change my mind.
Kane has won Hart, Ross, Lindsay, Smythe, Calder and 3 Cups. Only 2 players in NHL have ever done that. And he's the only one of those 2 to also be named NHL Top 100. He's the only player in NHL history to have OT goals to win the 2nd round, conference final, and Cup final. He's got the longest point streak of the last 30 years and 2 of the 7 20+ game streaks of the last 30 years. He led his prime decade in points and is currently 18th in NHL history in adjusted points. Kane of all American born players is currently 2nd in points (90 behind Modano in 269 fewer games), 2nd in assists (tied w Modano, 81 behind Housley in 265 fewer games), 6th in goals (90 behind Modano; 29 shy of 500), but SECOND in even strength goals, trailing only Modano, by 30. And already first all time among all Americans in even strength assists (ahead of Modano by 62) and even strength points (ahead of Modano by 32). You see, Pat Kane isn't a power play merchant. He's a 5v5 player.
The only time the United States beat Canada is because they had a Canadain player that has an American citizenship because his Canadain dad played in Chicago. His name is Brett Hull and he was born in Belleville, Ontario Canada
For starters; there are only 5 American’s in the top 50 for most points all time. And Hull is the leader but was born in Canada. *Top 5 with Brett Hull included: Kane, Modano, Hull (born in Canada), Roenick, Housley, Keith Tkachuk*
Kane, Lafontaine, Leclair, Hull and Mullen should be right there. And there is an entire generation of younger guys who might eventually push to be on that list. Matthews, Eichel, Hughes, the Tkachuks, Tage, Keller, JT Miller, Larkin, Pavelski, Patches, Debrincat, Terry, Zegras, Mcavoy, Wheeler, Boeser and Im sure Im missing some guys.
My top 5 is Patty Lafontaine, Ryan Miller, Pat Kane, Phil Housely and Mike Ramsey. I’m a Buffalo girl and a lifelong Sabres fan, in case that wasn’t already obvious.
Don’t hate him. He is just biased with who he played with. Different generation! Kids are a ton quicker now and probably would do circles around these guys. Chelios was a stud tho!
For all the Kane commenters: Chris looks like he’s in his early 50s. Just a hunch this interview is over a decade old. The list would be different today.
