I remember seeing “They Live” as a kid and how surprised I was at how great Roddy’s acting was. That’s when I realized his wrestling persona was a character. Appreciated his talent!
+brian centi Amen +1. You can add Curt Hennig (Mr. Perfect), Rick Rude, Ray Traylor (Big Boss Man), John Tenta (Earthquake), Mike Hegstrand (Hawk), John Minton (Big John Studd), Terry Gordy, Owen Hart, The Von Erichs, and The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith, among others.
I don’t care what Roddy played or said or did I always loved him the most and he inspired me to learn more things about the world do like him I was never loosted do words wich actually made me do better in school as a kid
It would be so easy to say: When 'Roddy' spoke, you listened. But it was better than that. He only had to do his initial 'screen-stare' of HIS eyes, into yours, the TV viewer . . . and then YOU listened.
i have met alot of these guys.i was a pro fighter.and stayed at the same hotel as the wwf crew.most of them were very cool layed back and some were way out there.but roddy was one of a kind.
He was one of best heels of all time along with Jake Roberts, Jericho (specifically suit Jericho), Miz, etc... MJF would definitely be an honorable mention another one would be 2011-early 2013 Dolph Ziggler.
thats what made those first 4 rockys great...the "bad guys" were just as great as Rocky. Sly picked the perfect antagonist in Apollo, Clubber Lang and Drago....heck..even Thunderlips was a great casting choice...though I would have rather seen jesse Ventura as Thunderlips....I wonder if he was asked to do it?
Piper LOVED being a heel. he had no shame in the 1980's; there was no line he would no cross at that time. NO ONE else could have gotten away with some of what he did. The cocnut, the Fire Extinguisher, The half black body when fighting bad news. Was suppossed to be a rib, but someone put oils in the black makeup so it did not wash out. Roddy had to go EVERYWHERE with that helf Black body; airports, restairants, hotels.... everywhere with that black makeup
That’s not true at all. Hulk Hogan is the friendliest pro wrestler I’ve met and I’ve met a LOT of them - my dad was head of security for a company that oversees the running of our city’s 2 sports arenas. The WWE wrestlers were mostly nice but they always kept a wall up whereas Hogan was very personable. The big players from the 00’s generation is where it started going wrong for WWE. They were nowhere near as talented or likable as the older generations. Hopefully the newest generation can reverse it bc it’s a shell of what it was prior to the early-mid 2000’s.
