Jim Ross joins Tim and Sid to remember Roddy Piper 

I love Roddy Piper. He's the only reason I watched the WWF. I was 5 when I started watching wrestling. I got started by watching the Freebirds in the Mid South, but the WWF was made great by Roddy. RIP

Its been over 7 years and I still miss the Hot Rod

Roddy Piper was a hall-of-famer who earned all he got, at times despite himself. Drugs, booze, 300 nights per year on the road, bumps, breaks, and bruises, fans who got too involved, promoters who were not always true to the talent, and cancer. He survived it all, and made us want for more. He knew that ring psychology was about connecting with the fans. Hardcore brilliance.

I live in Oregon, and in 1996 my brother and I met Roddy in the mall, said, hello, and later on I kid you not, we saw a white Bronco in the parking lot with a gold dent in it. We both knew that was THE Bronco from the Gold Dust match, Because it was hit by the gold Cadillac. That's something we'll always remember.

Love Roddy Piper. He was my favorite loud mouth. Will never forget the guy. +1 Jim!

First time viewing the show and was impressed with how the hosts conducted the interview. They were very polite and gave J.R. time to tell his stories. Great job and you got a new subscriber.

Great tribute to the memory of the Hot Rod!

Firstly, rest in peace Roddy. He never got what he deserved in the industry. Being a seminal figure in launching wrestling as a mainstream "thing" and being a keystone figure in elevating the WWF to prominence after they had gobbled up most of the regional promotions in the 80s - he was cast asunder as one of the first and most prominent victims of politics. I guess as a Canadian I may as well post this here.I'm just over 40. I grew up when WWF had it's rise and lived through it's golden age. I went to many stampede wrestling events in alberta where, as a young mark, I banged on many a "good guy" dressing room doors calling for a run in to save a babyface.Roddy Piper was a heel when it was actually dangerous to be a heel, and he provided the atmosphere to allow the money to flow in and helped set the stage for the rise of wrestling. Hell I vividly recall tuning in to wrestling just to watch piper's pit as a kid. Young folks have to realize that back in the day feature wrestling events on TV weren't common, and pay per view was in it's infancy. Not that pay grades generally are great now, but then they were abysmal. You'd have wrestling on Saturday morning which largely featured jobber matches - and depending on where you lived at some point during the week there might be a recurring show which was an immature precursor to say RAW. One big deal in the 80s was the birth of "Saturday Night's Main Event." In 1985 They launched a periodic late night wrestling event to replace Saturday night live reruns which always featured high profile matches. I was 10 and recall begging to stay up late in order to watch those events. Roddy was a big part of that. As I said before, Pay per view at home wasn't even a thing when WWF had it's initial rise to prominence. One of my fondest wrestling memories as a kid was when my dad got us tickets to watch a "satellite pay per view" broadcast of Wrestlemania at the Saddledome in Calgary. We drove 2 hours in a snow storm to watch the pay per view, and almost ended up upside down in a ditch thanks to the weather, but thanks to my Dad's brass balls and his love for his sons we made it. We piled in to the Saddledome and watched 1 of 4 screens set on the floor - and loved every second of it. Hot Rod was a big part of that. Again.In addition to wrestling on TV let alone pay per view being rare then, wrestling memorabilia was much rarer. There was no internet. No retail outlet to stock the stuff. There were no toys in the store and frankly I have no idea where one could get a shirt or anything else outside of a high profile show. My Dad went on a business trip to Toronto in the late 80s, when I was probably 12 or 13 - which was unusual. I have no idea where or how he got them, but he returned home with 2 hot rod T-Shirts - 1 for each of myself and my brother. This was the equivalent of body armour at the time.Fast forward to 2008. I attended the MMA event "Affliction - Banned" in Anaheim California with my brother. We had floor seats inside the 10th row - end seats. We have pictures with any number of prominent MMA fighters, and celebrities, and interacted with many many people who normally we would only normally see or read about on TV or online. What was the highlight? We ran into Hot Rod. In the midst of hanging out, talking to, and getting pictures with household names and MMA heroes, we ran into Roddy Piper. We both instantly were transformed from grown adults to 12 year olds. We were reduced to blubbering messes. Roddy sat and talked to us, wide eyed with mouths open. He was unnecessarily gracious and appreciative of our adulation, and unusually modest. No kilt, no leather jacket, we sat and talked to Roddy Piper in dress pants, a dress shirt, and eyeglasses. People talk about meeting their heroes and being disappointed. This didn't happen here. Roddy Piper was a prince of a man who never got what he deserved for his contribution to the sport he loved. I have come here to chew bubble gum and kickass... and I'm all out of bubble gum.

Every sport there are good guys and bad guys. Well piper started off as a bad ass. Then in time later in his career he was a bad guy turning good guy. Teaching up coming wrestlers that he and many others paved the way for wrestling entertainment. Piper was the best trash talking and didn't mind backing it up. Long live the piper and his bag pipes. Hot Rod thank you for all the great memories while growing up. I think people that watched you would say the same thing. R I P Piper

To Piper was rare being he can play both sides of the coin he be a Heel or A Face very few in this business can do that they try go Heel and don't work Stone Cold tried and it didn't last long long because the audience just couldn't hate him the few fails in Stone Cold's carrier!

I love Piper on the mic. And as a person. He's went through alot like all of us have and like JR said he had that IT factor in my opinion. When he was on the mic I love his energy and his passion and emotion. He was kind of annoying at times because he never shut up but at all during most interviews that I've seen but really I kinda liked it. Because you can't ask for more passion and energy. One thing is that Piper was never boring on the microphone

The only 2 wrestlers l liked as a kid were, My favorite Rowdy Roddy Piper, And Randy Macho man Savage. I only discovered recently that Randy could be a bit of a jerk in real life. But Piper was a champion both in and out of the ring.

We were in college. Me and my buddies and it was that compelling. We had to watch. And Roddy was at the center. U knew it was a put on. A very rich one.

Instead of classy stuff like this we get Craig Kilborn making "His partner, the Yellow Raincoat, was unharmed" jokes about Owen Hart's death. I guess Daniel Tosh making threats towards Arn Anderson every once and a while is something...
