Would you recommend a good EQ pedal to easier dial in the amp sounds?
@BlackCatRecording
@BlackCatRecording 5 лет назад
Possibly. The only times I have used an EQ pedal was more for accenting certain parts in a song such as a solo. If you happen to know someone that has one, see if you can use if for a while to see if it will get you the desired result. You could, of course buy one and return it if you didn't like it. Just make sure you try it in the front of the amp as well as through the effects loop. If you have other pedals in your signal chain, you will need to make sure to change it around in the lineup as that will give you different results as well.

Is it true that this amp makes a lot of noise/fizz when sounding without any effects? Which one would you advice for heavy rythm, palm muting and breakedowns, most precisely metalcore and deathcore, this, the Diezel vh4 or mesa triple rectifier? Looking up for a killer tone modern metalcore and deathcore amp but with a defined sound that allows me to hear not seperation very well, without background noise
@BlackCatRecording
@BlackCatRecording 6 лет назад
As far as I know, you will get noise from any high gain amp. The noise will vary depending on your EQ settings, reverb level (If the amp has built in reverb), and overall volume that the amp is set to. All three amps that you mentioned are great amps but it's hard to tell someone what they should buy. Me personally, I probably wouldn't go with the Triple Rec. I've always found those hard to dial in a tone since the tone knobs don't seem to have as much of a range on them as other amps in its class. On the Diezel, I don't have much personal experience with those other than playing through friend's rigs that were very picky about their tone so I never played with the settings while playing through them. That being said, I still loved the tone that came from them. I always recommend playing through an amp with your own guitar anytime that option is available before buying. I know this may not have been quite the answer you were looking for but I hope this at least gave you enough information to help you decide on an amp.
@bobsmoot5106
@bobsmoot5106 4 года назад
A good noise gate is your best friend for high gain situations. If it’s dialed in right, it cuts the noise when you’re not playing, open wide when you play hard, and trims the fizz when you play softly. Also, try rolling back the highs a little bit on your guitar’s tone knob, or the amp itself.

@BlackCatRecording

+aris koskinas No, I don't when I play and I definitely don't when doing these videos. For the videos I want to make sure that people only hear the amp without anything external altering the sound. As far as when I play, I just personally never felt like I needed one especially with this amp. I just got a regular 6505.......it kills for metal....don't need a boost....I don't think.....getting a good usable clean channel is tough. 6505plus due to its separate eq section would be easier....a foot switch to turn off the crunch...a little chorus and I got an OK clean channel.....green channel cranked is second to none as far as heavy goes.

Would the settings be the same on the 6505 amp?
@nolasludge
@nolasludge 5 лет назад
The 6505 is voiced a little differently, but it's not completely different. In my experience, the 6505 has a naturally more scooped tone than the 6505+. However, you can pretty much get the same tone as the other by dialing it in a little differently, provided that all other factors remain the same (guitar, tubes, cabinet, etc.).
@BlackCatRecording
@BlackCatRecording 5 лет назад
I can't speak from experience since I have never played on a 6505 but from what I understand, the only differences are that the 6505+ has one extra preamp tube that gives it "better" cleans and the clean hythm channel has it's own EQ, separate from the lead. That being said, I would think that running it clean MAY be a little different but the rhythm and lead MAY be the same. I hope that helps. If anyone else has experience with both, hopefully they will chime in with some wisdom.
@williamhill6386
@williamhill6386 3 года назад
So apparently the presence knobs on the 6505+ generally do fuck-all until you get to 7.5 or so. And here I was thinking I needed to get mine looked at.
@jesterraj
@jesterraj 6 лет назад
whats the post knob for?
@BlackCatRecording
@BlackCatRecording 6 лет назад
To keep things simple, post basically just provides volume. Pre will provide bite. A high pre setting with a lower post will gives you more distortion while having a lower pre and a higher post will give you a cleaner sound.

@ChristopherVillines
@ChristopherVillines 7 лет назад
jdssurf I think it has plenty of low end punch. There are a lot of variables though. Amp settings, cab, pickups into the guitar, as well as the room you're playing in. Speakers and the build of the cabinet can play a very big role in the sound.

why is the sound on the presence maximum so different? at 4:30
@BlackCatRecording

I never really noticed before but that is quite a drastic change when start to max it out. I suppose it has to do with the type of potentiometers that they used for the presence knob.
@mote9299
@mote9299 4 года назад
@@BlackCatRecording Thank you, many people told me that the real peavy sound comes only with full presence and very loud volume. Do you think this is right? anyway, can you give me some update when you hear something?
@BlackCatRecording
@BlackCatRecording 4 года назад
@@mote9299 I have personally never heard that before. For me personally, I do like the presence pretty high but all the way is just too much for me. As far as the extreme volume, most people will say that any tube amp will sound better at louder volumes however, "better" is subjective and what one person thinks is a good tone could sound terrible to someone else. Another thing, I never rely on high volume for my tone since any good sound guy will always want you to keep your volume at a reasonable level at a show. This helps the sound guy have more control over the overall mix of the band. If you are too loud, it won't matter if you have good tone. Your band as a whole won't sound good. This may not have been quite the answer you were looking for, but I hope it at least helped in some way.

This is a 6505+. Has your's been modded? What cab do you use? What guitar/pick ups are you using? Is your room acoustically treated? Are you using the Shure SM57 mic ore somthing different. What our ears hear direct from the speakers in the room is not the same as what the mic capturing the sound and your current listening device (iphone or headphones etc) will sound like. Now, taken everything in to account, does it really sound that different?

@joepaul9855 5 лет назад
6505+ is slightly less low end and gain than 6505/5150. Many prefer this for recording as it can be overwhelming. For $500 head not sure there is anything better. Bugera and Jet City have some affordable heads and combos that sound great. The lesser known Peavey amps are also great amps. The JSX and XXX are not quite the metal amps as the better known 5150/6505 but cleans are Much better and cheap $400 or less used. The Windsor is pretty much a Jcm800 clone and with a couple mods can easily do the 5150 thing used $300 or less. All these are pretty much yhe Platinum standard for great sounding affordable amps.

For the love of God. Yet another video of a powerful head where the Master Volume is not even at 19% ! Big amps like this really really really come into their own when the power amp tubes are pushed hard. Sounds great in this video, but how good would it sound pumping at rated output while punishing some Celestion Vintage 30's ? That is the sound we hear on albums people. Enough of these apartment level reviews ! Unchoke the tone !
@BlackCatRecording
@BlackCatRecording 6 лет назад
Though that is true, that was not the point of this video. I wanted to show how the potentiometers for the tone, resonance, and presence change the sound. Some amps are more sensitive to these changes than others and I wanted to demonstrate it with this amp. I have used amps in the past where it took drastic changes for the sound to have any noticeable difference. I do appreciate your comment and I will definitely take that into consideration with my videos in the future.
@chadfolzenlogel8739

Why these will sound even better a little louder, these amps get their tone from their preamps, not the power amp. There is no need to get to ear bleeding volume with 6505's like you would the older non master volume Marshalls. This guy did a great job with this demo.

@borges3099
@borges3099 Год назад
Actually no. The sound on albums is due to mixing, mastering, and post processing mostly. I own an sm57'd 6505+ and it does not sound drastically different on 3 post vs 1. It does however remove some of the high end hiss, fills mids in better, and opens up a bit warmer at 2-3 post, but nothing that is significant for this video. 1.3 is fine for this demo.
