JRM is no Christian. He just likes the idea of living in an episode of The Vicar of Dibley, or one of the Barchester Chronicles.

Polls must always be governed by scientific sampling rules, and be transparent. Without those strictures, the whole notion of scientific sampling is meaningless.

Religious decline has been ongoing for over 100 years. Less than 1% attend church. Progress of a kind as Christopher Hitchens would say.

People seem to be more and more terrified of freely speaking or free speech as though its a terrible act of intemperance that makes one a "public" enemy. It seems that Christianity should be defended at all costs. It has fostered the plurality of free speaking and provided a structure that also tempers it, that proceeds from learning to tolerate the differences of differing creeds, for one. ( As if that isn't enough to illustrate the tendency of people to disagree and, yet on the positive side, to agree to disagree). However children are in a different category as far as needing more stable and predictable experiences. They need to rely upon early experience for them to absorb positive, encouraging relations between people in smaller family and community settings as they grow into the larger world, or they do not have an early imprint to rely on, and may carry a sence of alienation with them, that hinders their sence of freedom and ability to engage and participate in the outside world. The church should not be underestimated as an intermediary to people who may benefit by its philosophy that there are gifts, beyond the material, that all people from the most fortunate to the least may share in keeping with the blessing of acknowledging the value of the churches. We all know that " youth is wasted on the young" mainly because we lack knowledge, discernment and can be directed and influenced and swayed by outside influences. But, clearly, we have become more and more a youth culture, as if we who are forty or older must keep up with them, or we are headed to out-of-luck, loser land and redundancy, because youth is the gold standard, and yet, now the youth do not have the same prospects for earning or aquiring the same buying power and are more anxious about the future. See how they are falling into the hands of ideologs who are promising all manner of social redress as some kind of compensation for being born into a "fallen" world. Somewhere inbetween the over the hill, out-of-date oldtimers and their attachment to quaint "idears" of truth, old fashioned morality and anachronistic religious customs, beknighted traditions... and... a future devoid of such props and nods to outmoded noddings to beastly boring convention lies the "fallen" world, always. Always that void. Is God just a mask for that void? Well, might that not put a kindlier face upon such a void, a possible means of approaching such a thing? How else can people meaningfully respond to such things and places, devoid of responsiveness or an answering response to their basic human need. That is not a happy or fruitful experience, outcome, ending or beginning. It may seem that the basic sacraments and traditions honouring them are "out", as if they ought to be considered unfit for human consumption, instead of a substance, like glue that may help bind people together to common sence, instinct, survival and purpose; the basic threads of life. The prevailing winds seem to have shifted people onto the course of self- idolization with respect to our duty toward worship of utilitarian beliefs, and our virtue in upholding them and positions like heading our children in the direction of gender non conformity which is useful to the high priests and priestesses who have advocated for changes in the laws, schools, and churches in what can and can't be said, by whom, when and where, if it should interfere with their plans and programs to move children into the hands of gender transitioning surgeons, who no longer know or wish to acknowledge the existence of women on the planet. So much for throwing polite discourse out the window, on top of censoring "unmentionable" terms out of books and speech. What is valiant and virtuous outside of the hands of God is more about consumerism and instant gratification than religion, though it is dressed up as a valiant and virtuous activism- for -the -sake -of -global- warming, as a far worthier priority than despairing over the death of Christianity, as if that would surely take up the current and future slack. And people ask, is Wokism a religion? Well, I only hope people can see the difference or, yes, something has really, really gone array, though it may be laid upon the case that: the best laid plans "of mice and men" oft do go array. Since the young people seem pressed toward this divide, I hope they fully realize what is on the otherside of it, before losing sight completely of what lies over their shoulder, and seems, at least by contrast, so far behind them that it may seem redundant or void of meaning. Again, maybe this attitude says more about consumerism than religion... I hear it said more often that people are being led toward our use as product for consumption and not so much as consumers of product, i.e., we will own nothing yet be happy...useful, to whom, indeed!
