I struggled with leaving Christianity for nearly 60 years feeling like I was the only one. These opportunities to find others who escaped is very important. The emotional bonds are the hardest, at least for me.

You said you had a goal to create content where you discuss the Egyptian and Greek influences on Christianity, the references in the NT to Enoch, etc. did you make that content? All I find are interviews which tend to have a lot of fluff and kind of ramble.

Christianity creates the illusion that you are imperfect, and therefore require a supernatural being to rescue you from yourself, because you are imperfect, and can't seem to shake off your sinful nature. What kind of god punishes you if you don't believe in him and sends you to dwell in everlasting torment for all eternity? But he loves you!

Thank you for sharing your story and being so honest with me. I just can't believe that there are people with similar stories. My eyes opened only a few years ago, paradoxically at the moment when I started reading the Bible more seriously, the Old Testament in particular.Same questions raised with no answers from other "serious" christians. In my eyes, they are all scared of such critical thinking. They just want to believe no matter what.These are all amazing people but still...

I noticed when I was a Christian that belief in the Bible creates this kinda self hatred that is unmatched. You’re always trying to live up to this perfect gods standards and seeking his forgiveness because of your evil nature. That’s what really broke me, keeps you on a hamster wheel of seeking magic mans favor and looking down on anyone who isn’t a Christian.
@Fourwindsofsuccess
@Fourwindsofsuccess Год назад
It makes you a misanthrope which in recent years I’ve come to conclusion. A Misanthrope is a person who dislikes humankind and avoids human society. That’s what they are even though they’ll debate this since they are over these organizations to give back to you if you need food, rent assistance, etc. I feel most do this stuff because it’s to seek a high favor from their version of ‘God’. The Bible makes you hate humanity & makes you hate being human. Look at all the stories of rape, genocide, slavery, human sacrifices, etc. reading that sick stuff will make you justify your hatred of other human beings. That’s why they’ll use those passages to justify their judgements or hate of other people.

Also in Mark 13, Matthew 24 and Luke 21 that the generation who saw the temple destroyed (70 AD) wouldn't pass away before his return. I've been an atheist for 41 years. It took studying the KJV Bible in my catholic high school when I realized it was all based on what I term horse shit. And so that brought the questions out. . And this was about the same time as the abuse scandal started and the church was covering it up. That shot all their credibility to shit. Then I realized I valued my Sunday mornings and so walked away from Catholicism It's also when I found out what the Nicean council of 325CE was about - that's when they decided the issue of the triune god. Seriously. And there were many many councils over time to hash out the inconsistencies of the Bible.

I too am an atheist who believed all the scripture quotes, one being, "Study to show thyself approved, a workman that needeth not be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth." Never once in 75 years did I scrutinize that scripture so closely as the Harmonic Atheist does here. It was only by dropping out of church at 75 and immersing myself in the logic of atheistic thought with the writings of Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins that my mind gradually opened up to really "study to show myself approved, etc." I couldn't have done this without the outside help of these great men of scientific thought and the use of what was left of my brain after almost total indoctrination. Even as a child, though, questions entered my mind concerning the fallacy of religion but I kept sweeping them aside believing the lie of the patriarchal society in which we live. Thank you for this excellent truly honest video.

Wow! To make it out at your age is highly unusual. Just curious, but how did you handle any guilt that may have come your way? Christianity comes with a lot of baggage. I treated non-Christians like shit. I had an appallingly hateful attitude toward gays, atheists, those who didn't share the same faith I did, pretty much anyone who didn't toe the line. I think my 81-year-old mother is incapable of doing what you did because she'd be forced to confront her own darkness. She has to believe she is good, that she never caused any harm ever. She'd have to admit my father was abusive. She'd have to admit that she was occasionally abusive in the name of her faith. The odds of her coming out of the Christian Trump cult are basically zero in my estimation. Unfortunately, if Trump doesn't win in November (and for the sake of the planet, I hope he does not), it will likely destroy our family. Since I'm disabled, I have no idea what will happen to me. If Trump wins, it will mollify his followers, but I'm sure the Republicans have people with "invisible" disabilities in their sites. My mother thinks that because I'm "truly" disabled I'll be spared. She's so naive. I'm going to try to enjoy these last couple of months because after that...????? It's so sad for all of us.

WOW Tim !! A truly heartfelt and excellent second anniversary presentation. THIS is what the definition of a "Saint" is !! The protestant cult seems to define sainthood as simply being a member, whereas, at least, the catholic cult I came from defined it as having desirable characteristics such as devotion, noble suffering, demonstrable love of fellow folks etc.; in other words someone who possesses the best attributes of being human that one should strive to emulate. From this perspective, please accept this "virtual hug" as encouragement in your saintly ways. To paraphrase a quote, supposedly from Ghandi, "First they hate you, then they fight you, then they listen to you, then you open their eyes and the world becomes a better place". Much love, bro'

@god school I don't think we need to talk anyone out of anything. Just asking questions that expose their fallacious thinking is the pebble in the shoe. If they make sense, then you might join them. The recipient of your kindness (you would not bother if you did not care about the victim's well-being) will benefit if you keep providing enough inoculations to eradicate The God Virus. They will eventually discover they are wearing concrete boots in a river of madness. Facts are insignificant in a damaged theistic mind, so providing the information is futile. Ask questions, but don't expect honest answers. Theists are generally not capable of that. The God Virus is an excellent book by Dr Darryl Ray.

I have a question for any Christians who are reading this. We know that of Jesus’ four brothers (who all denied his divinity) James finally converts to Christianity after allegedly witnessing the resurrected Jesus in person so the question is this: what happens to the other three brothers who didn’t convert? Does Jesus condemn his own family to everlasting torment for not accepting him as Christ or does he 'pull some strings' to allow them to sidestep judgement and escape eternal damnation? Either answer doesn’t look good!

Ooh, Christianity and sex. I was brought up with the idea that your virginity is a precious gift you give to your spouse after your wedding. Pretty idea...very poetic. BUT, if I'd been free to experiment sexually instead of "saving myself for marriage" perhaps I'd have figured out that I'm asexual as a teen or young adult. Instead I married, had several children and lots of sex (ho-hum) and after 14 years finally divorced. My ex was much happier with his second wife. I'm practically overdosing on the bliss of celibate life. It is wonderful not having a partner who has biblical justification for the idea that my body belongs to him ☺️

Great channel and podcast! I came to the rude awakening that Christianity was no different than any other mythology or theology when I studied money and realized that money and inflation is an older falsety than Christianity is. Oddly enough, studying Bitcoin in my studies on money finally took the Christian veil over my eyes. This may sound farfetched but I was just as guffawed as you were when I came to my senses that everything I was taught about money was a farce. The falseties around money are older than 5000 years old. I am now on the same journey as you are....to seek the truth for my own theological beliefs. This is going to be such a fun adventure, albeit sometimes scary/hurtful/surprising, as I unveil the mysteries of all prior theologies. I was a Christian for 20+ years. Thank you so much for your channel! You are an inspiration! One book that I read that helped open my eyes was called, The History of God.

Well sometimes I feel like doing that with the real hard truth facts of the Bible. I am not a full-blown atheist or agnostic but I am very anti-Bible. If there was ever any true Christianity, the Bible destroyed it with all its plagiarism from mythology. I was raised Catholic and even as a child the whole Bible thing just never quite passed the old sniff test for me. As a child, it never made sense to me that a loving God would torture people because they weren’t “chosen” or condemn people to eternal Hell for sinning and not accepting Jesus. The Bible makes God out to be a sadistic, socio-pathetic, narcissist. If that is “God”, who would want to be with someone like that?

I think most good hearted people have thoughts like you. When you said you don't want to be an empty vessel you mean you want to pour into others love and goodness of Christ. I to have walked away from Christainity myself. I love listening to your channel. I want to also say you are not empty now even not being in Christ. You still have love, kindness and truth. The truth is you don't care how others accept the fact that you are not Christain yet you still have a light within you that is helping others guide and accept themselves as not deserving of hell or anything that is destructive because they won't take on Christ and then work on becoming Christlike. Everyone has good and bad inside of us. We are all capable of sharing what is good inside of us with not only ourselves but with others. I know one thing gor sure is I became so depressed thinking about the whole ideal that others I love who have not accepted Christ and living like Christains deserve some type of hell or correction until they become Christ like. Yet to become more non judgemental and religious as I not set myself on high as if I'm with this God and judge others under this doctrine yet seem them as imperfect people like myself is a better peace. One thing I do do is protect myself from things that has me feeling empty. Yes I'm responsible for my own cup called the vessels that my soul is carrying so I norish my soul with good things such as respect, love, goodness and kindness. Everyone is capable and deserving of that no matter what. Don't look outside yourself to find this from others because you carrying it inside yourself. The thing about you and your testimony is anyone who comes to you and listens to you leaves feeling happier, positive and more open. That is you very own candle that you carry that you in return turn and able able to help light another souls candle rather than knocking them down. That is a gift. Not many have that. Your not debating your just stating your own truth and so many people are in agreement with what you share as well. To open your own mind with like minded people and to share it with them in love and in truth is a sign your not an empty vessel by far. Thanks for sharing this.

Mark Twain on the Bible : "It is full of interest. It has noble poetry in it, some clever fables, some blood-drenched history, some good morals, a wealth of obscenity and upwards of a thousand lies." Mark Twain on Christianity : I bring you the stately matron named Christendom, returning bedraggled, besmirched, and dishonored, from pirate raids in Manchuria, South Africa, and the Philippines, with her soul full of meanness, her pocket full of boodle, and her mouth full of pious hypocrisies. @ 30:03 - 30:06 yes the obsession with boy children and a man’s circumcising. It’s horrible. Unfortunately me and my brother was born at a hospital named “Holy Cross Hospital” hospital because my elder Christian relatives forced my mother to birthed us there 🙄. I have no idea if my mom let them did that garbage to my male sibling, I never talked about that since she was not even Christian. On the other hand the whole sexual slavery for women in there or rape or incest is horrible. Then the whole human sacrifices as a whole of humanity or genocides is what turned me off from it.

We sure did. I always felt like that’s why there’s toxic parents out there who also don’t worship religion but they still have some religious views when it comes to children. There’s old people who think they could mistreat younger people because they’re older because the “Bible” says this or that. They feel that they have authority. Then you have people who have developed narcissism or self centered beliefs or misanthrope because of religion that are in denial of it all. Abuse is also justified against children & teens from this religion to. It makes you wonder why so many millennials and Gen-Z are exposing narcissistic behavior among our parents. I always felt like those views came from the Bible. I love the way you worded this here 👏🏾

I have struggled with this since I was old enough to understand death. I am now 67. I have PSTD over unfounded guilt caused when I was young over my reality as compared to my upbringing. An interesting show that was on in the 90's called, "The Mysteries of the Bible", was my jumping off point. Watching a more in depth historical rendition illuminated the ridiculousness and how contrived and vague the book really is. The lack of science, other previous religions story contributions, the history of thecanonizing of the books! Who made it in and who was left out! All by Men! Look at the Anglican church, it was devised so Henry the 8th could get a devorce instead of killing his wives!! My 92 yr. Old Mother is a devote Christian to this day! She is very outgoing. I on the other hand am a very shy more introverted person like my Dad. It is so much more difficult to fit into Christianity when you are such!

I'm currently going through my deconstruction process, and it's a lonely journey. I live in a country with pretty decent religious tolerance, but being unaffiliated (atheism, agnosticism, etc) is not permitted. My national identity card even lists my religion on it. Videos like yours are helping me cope, as it's really hard for me to find a community of folks who have gone through or are going through the same thing I am. For now, I mostly have to keep my thoughts to myself, as it's not safe to talk about it. Maybe one day I can also share my thoughts as freely as you. But for now, I can't imagine the backlash of starting a channel like yours in my context. Thank you for sharing.

For me it was the blood magic. It sounded so barbaric, so unnecessarily brutal. I was brought up in an evangelical family and I was taught to believe, but was I got to be 11 or 12, it just made less and less sense to me. I prayed desperately for Jesus to enter my heart, but the doubts were inescapable. And then I had anxiety that the rapture would occur during the midst of a doubting episode and I would be left on earth alone, without my believing family. What a horrible, toxic way to bring up a small child, to rob them of their sense of safety, with no actual threat involved. Just brute manipulation. At 18 I stopped attending church and it’s been a source of stress in my family ever since. Not horrible, but they do think their son is going to hell. What a disgusting worldview. Studying the ancient texts further, it just makes no sense at all why someone would assume that it’s anything other than myth. But that is my core trauma that I have to deal with. Many have worse, but man this was so avoidable. Why torture your child psychologically for no reason? Just pure bullshit. So glad to raise my kids knowing that they are safe, NO MATTER WHAT THEY BELIEVE.

The (il)logic of Christianity: The perfect loving, all knowing, all powerful God was lonely and needed someone to worship Him for His awesomeness, because all perfect beings require praise to feel fulfilled (or maybe I'm confusing that with narcissists). He created man, called the creation good, all the while knowing man would rebel against Him. But He also created angels knowing they would rebel against Him (He is all knowing remember) He put the tree of knowledge in the garden of Eden to tempt Eve and Adam, and lied to them that they would immediately die if they ate of the tree, knowing that they would indeed eat the fruit (apparently God doesn't understand the concept of reverse psychology). Since Adam and Eve didn't immediately die, He kicked them out of the garden of Eden for doing wrong, which they had no way of knowing was wrong ahead of time because they had yet to eat from the tree of knowledge of GOOD AND EVIL. And all of us wicked humans born since inherit the guilt of Adam and Eve as beautiful helpless and vulnerable infants. Then a while later He was sorry He created man because they were all wicked, even though He knew ahead of time this would be the outcome, so He decided on mass genocide as the best solution. And the all powerful God that poofed man into existence, and could have just as easily and painlessly poofed man out of existence, decided a world wide flood that wiped out not only man but all the animals in one of the worst ways to die (drowning), was the simplest and most logical method to commit this genocide (or perhaps He got the idea from the Mesopotamian gods that preceded Him). Yet as soon as Noah's Ark landed, Noah, his family, and his descendants went right back to their evil ways. But no worries, this God has a plan. Maybe this one will work. He can't help but eternally punish man for man's wickedness because His goodness requires that He torture His own creation, so He decided to send Himself to earth to be killed as a sacrifice to Himself so that He can change His mind and instead forgive mankind that He created knowing ahead of time how wicked mankind would be. But everyone witnessing this event was a pre-scientific, superstitious, iron age, levantine illiterate. And not a single, contemporary to the events, literate historian or politician had anything to say about it, or all the miraculous happenings surrounding it, almost as if it never even happened. And now everyone's salvation from God's damnation to eternal torment is dependent on us believing miraculous stories written down decades after the fact by anonymous authors, none of which claim to be eye witness to the events their beliefs rely on (unless you count hallucinations), in a 2000 year old book full of scientific absurdities, internal self contradictions, failed prophecies, genocide, slavery, misogyny, incest, rape, copies of pagan mythology and mystery religion, all canonized by political vote and used as a tool of the Roman Empire to control it's citizens. And this is the best evidence an all knowing, all powerful, loving God is apparently capable of providing to us that we might not burn in the sulfur fueled fires of hell forever (This god sure can't seem to do anything right). But don't worry. The best is yet to come. Eventually this God will come back and create a new heaven and new earth, but he's going to get it right the second time around, honest, scout's honor (seems like He could have saved a lot of suffering if He'd gotten it right on the first try). Although He is a couple millenia late according to what the 2000 year old story book claims He said when he walked on earth as a man.

It has been so hard to go through this. Easily the most difficult thing I have ever gone through in my life, but knowing there are others out there that share a very similar story makes it easier. I still have a very long way to go, and so so so much to unravel, and sift through. It hurts. It's like a car crash that you can't look away from. I spend hours daily deep diving into all of it. Even if there is a God it does not mean it is the Christian one or of any other man made religion. I believe in a higher power that created us and the only thing I fear is answering for doing intentional evil when I pass on, so for that reason I am conscientious of my actions and I try not to do evil while I’m here on this planet. Maybe god is just a passive creative force and a consciousness but not all knowing and all powerful to intervene in our daily lives. When I used to be a Christian one thing that struck me as odd, among many others, is that fact that all the focus is on the narcissistic needs of Jesus to be reflected in us to the point that we are not even individual human beings anymore! There is no focus on being here and now and managing our planet and all that is in it responsibly. That is why Christianity brought about the dark ages where all science, medicine, and human advancement stopped, because Christians live to die. They literally only focus on the insatiable narcissistic need of Jesus to be glorified and worshipped instead of being productive and interactive with their lives here on earth. That type of attitude and focus stunts human development and causes a lot of death and suffering as it did in the dark ages. Christians long for the day when they rule the world but have forgotten that they once did and almost destroyed it!

I have spent my life not being able to absorb that people really believe… I went to church every Sunday and I never considered people really believed it. It being anything talked about from the sermons to saying grace to the comments about Jesus none of it. I never considered people saw it as reality just as Santa.. exact same thing. Santa comes down chimney, eats cookies, flying reindeer etc. No one says your parents ate the cookies and those gifts were in the closet. Duh we all know that. So no one says that’s not really his body or blood, Jesus isn’t real of course his mom wasn’t a virgin she had other children .. duh on and on. At confirmation classes I asked questions and I giggled with the answers and realized no one else giggled but I believed class was not to convince us sillyness was real it was to study the stories to pass them on .. no difference than a play. The point was not convincing the actors the play was reality but to learn the play to demonstrate it. Sounds ridiculous but think how many times you are talking to adults and they say they need get home because Santa is coming. You say oh right ok. You don’t say .. do you believe Santa is real. If you did they would say well of course doesn’t everyone and you smile but you don’t believe they believe .. how could they? How could they believe he goes house to house blah blah well that easier believe than the biblical stories right. I am stunned that people don’t just want to believe but actually believe.. people that get dressed every day by themselves and believe the Bible is real … it’s mind blowing. How can that be?

There are churches where these issues are discussed, where issues of the authorship and the canon are Bible 101 in the training of the clergy. When the matter of Old Testament issues are openly grappled with - Noah vs Gilgamesh; poetic stories of Job and Jonah. People writing and putting words in God's mouth as they assume a God would expect this or that (actions normal in the culture of war then). New Testament echoes of the other stories around, The corner of the church that it sounds you were rooted and raised in is one that couldn't handle those questions, but those of us dismissed as dodgy liberals etc have long sat with those questions.
