Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Here is a new Shetland tune called, “Christmas Day Ida Moarnin'.” I think this Scottish tune is typically considered an air, but I’ve seen it listed as a jig, as well. I tend to think it has a march-like essence to it, or even a strathspey vibe to it, although I don’t think there really are Shetland Strathspeys. I tend to think it is neither a jig nor a strathspey, and it doesn’t really seem to be like an air, either, but rather a tune in itself. Apparently this tune is one that is played in the morning of Christmas Day.
Some people think this tune was composed by Friedemann Stickle who used to play this tune every year on Christmas morning in the hall of the Edmondston family. However, other people think this tune may be even older and composed by someone else.
Thank you for watching, and I hope you have a good holiday time! =)
