What fabrics would you put together to make your Christmas Tree Napkins? 🎄🎄🎄
@MeganBell

white and white! haha, just kidding Patty, but you know me! Maybe cream and white? 😂 Love the video and it has me getting excited about Christmas already!
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 4 года назад
@Megan Bell You could definitely do tone on tone! You could do the same cream on both sides. And straight stitch. It can be very clean as I know that's your preferred design style. 💛

I have some vintage looking cotton woven. I’m planning to use the print one one side and a solid on the other. Not sure what color solid yet however. I’m going to have to get into my printed Christmas fabric stash to know for sure.

Thank you so very much for demonstrating how you make your Chris tree napkins! You have clearly demonstrated how to correctly fold them which has been a bit confusing for me until now. I actually have several sets ready to sew but have hesitated due to the folding process. Other channels were Toto fast and confusing. Great work and will be following you!

Thank you for that feedback Mary! A lot of viewers will complain that the videos are too long and I talk too slowly, but have taught enough people in real life to know that some things NEED to be demonstrated more than once, and going slow gives people a chance to grasp the concept. I love this project and I hope you will enjoy yours now that it makes a little more sense. The blog post I linked to is also a good resource. I like having written instructions to review after watching videos. I appreciate you subscribing! I'm very behind on new content right now as I've had a challenging year. And now my home is a mess due to some water damage. I did meet with the project manager who will be over seeing the repairs so it sounds like it will be ongoing in December which messes up my Christmas plans, but we'll do out best.

I have watched a lot of these Christmas napkin videos trying to learn how, and your video was the most informative video of them all and your napkins, due to the decorative stitches, made the napkins much more beautiful. Your video was completed and then it told us how much yardage the same allowance and so forth. Thank you again for being so thorough in your instructions.

Thank you so much Connie!! I'm so happy it was the video that helped you to understand the construction on the the napkins. They really are easy and honestly, the real work is in the pressing. I hope you will try them out!! I love making them. They never get old!

Hi Sheryl! It's the cutest project, and doesn't take much fabric. They don't take up much room so it's a nice gift item to make ahead and store away in a small box or corner of a drawer until time to wrap them up. I do hope you will give them a try! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I do hope it answers all your questions.

Loving the marker with disappearing ink and that IRON!!! Beautifully executed project as always! Merry Xmas Patty! 🌲 🎅
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 4 года назад
Thanks B! The disappearing ink pen is one of my favorite sewing tools. Any pattern I cut out, I trace it and cut out on the lines rather than around a pinned pattern which is awkward for me. The iron was a QVC purchase from years ago! It was such a great deal and then when I started sewing, I discovered how wonderful a good steam iron can be.

I totally relate to that and I think you are not alone in that sentiment. It's why I wanted to do this right now. It's a good distraction. Put on the Christmas music, bake some cookies and sew some trees. It will be the best part of this whole year.

I've watched a few of your videos. After the first one, I subscribed. Your teaching method is so easy to follow and I look forward to making all the Christmas things and more. I'm not a quilter or great at sewing. I get intimidated easily. It's mostly the lack of confidence and that darn perfectionist problem. Thank you so much and hope to see many more videos. 💜
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 3 года назад
Thank you so much Linda! I'm really happy you enjoy what I'm sharing. And oh my goodness!! Please let go of the perfectionism. We are people, not robots! We gain confidence and skill through practice, so I encourage you to just keep working on what ever it is that you enjoy. Having a really good steam iron and spray starch is the best investment you'll make in your sewing. It really does help! And just allow yourself to make some messes. It's how we learn! Believe me, I mess stuff up all the time! LOL!! It's how I figure things out and how I find the best way to help you in your craft quest. Thank you for leaving such a lovely comment. I do appreciate it.

@sandyp2485
@sandyp2485 4 года назад
Really cute project. I'd be inclined to add a visual cue of some sort to know where to fold and press without having the pattern at hand. It could be something as simple as one different stitch at the fold point along the topstitching so you'd know where to fold without the pattern but could easily be included in the design.
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 4 года назад
Sandy you can stitch a line if that works for you! I've done that in the past. I like using the pattern as a visual aid, and this is how I've shown people at in person classes. I made the video using the same method. I think the napkins look better when in use without the stitch line at the 10" mark. The great thing with sewing is there is no one way to accomplish things. We can all do what works best for each of us.

Do you include a folding template for gifting? For after they are washed, to show how to press them out again?
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 7 месяцев назад
You definitely could! I find most people just put them out as a display and don't actually use them. I've never met a non sewist who would take the time to press their table linens so I'm not sure they would use the template even if you included it. But I would leave that up to you!

Do you think these would work with flannel or is it better to stick with cotton?
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 3 года назад
Tamara, I would stick with cotton because it's more stable and it will give you a crisp line when you steam press. And flannel is a little stretchy and tricky to work with. The curve would be kind of a challenge to sew with a flannel. You could certainly try it out and see what you think, but try it both ways and decide what you prefer. I am working on Christmas stockings that use flannel stash, so that is coming up for the season. The snuggle fabrics are a challenge unless you stabilize them, which is what I did for the Christmas stockings. I hope that helps!

Did you pre washed the fabric?
@PattymacMakes
@PattymacMakes 2 года назад
You definitely can! I generally don't when I sew projects for the channel so I have a crisp fabric to use on camera. I know many people are adamant about a prewash, and I supposed it's a good plan in most instances. If I use the cheap snuggle flannels from Joan, I definitely prewash because they shrink like mad.
