honestly nick the most realistic part of this movie is when the guy waits until the tornado touches down to leave. as a texan, i have on numerous occasions stood outside with my neighbors watching storms until the hail got big enough to threaten a concussion, and even then i only moved to the porch
I'm reminded of several viral videos like these such as the guy who was mowing his lawn while the tornado was approaching lol. The scarcest one tho was when someone was filming as a tornado approached but they said nothing, no screams or gasps just pure silence as it got closer and hit them plus destroyed the house. They lived but like...still tho D:
It's such a weird typo I would think it was intentional except it doesn't make any sense. Maybe the plan was to have a video effect that would blow the letters around on the title screen and whoever edited the final product didn't get the memo so just ended up with one misspelled word.
Fun Fact: the girl who plays the daughter went to the same dance studio as my sister and me growing up, and then when she was 16 she moved to LA to become an actress. My whole family was like "yay that's cool" but of course didn't think it would actually pan out because when does it ever. And then she was in this movie and we were like "Oh ok so she actually did acting! That's pretty cool!" and then we thought that would be the end of it but now she's in big blockbusters with Cole Sprouse and M. Night. I'm happy for her. She did a pretty solid job in this movie too, despite the script being so bad.
@@minajones8341 Wow, she was in The White Lotus S2! I would never have guessed it was the same person until reading your comment. Good for her! Work is work but that's a huge step up from Christmas* Twister haha edit: *Christams, my bad
"And the fact that there even IS weather disproportionately affects women and women of color due to institutionalized racism and misogyny" - me, every time it rains
Your gloss is poppin'! Also as someone who grew up in a very religious family, I can say this movie is giving " something they make you watch at a church lock-in" tease.
Yessssss. Good Lord, the absolutely atrocious shit we had to sit through in church lock-ins and the like! If the whole Christian God thing does _somehow_ end up being true, I’d _better_ get into Heaven based solely on the *many* hours that I wasted in my youth via watching that garbage. Iol
Come on .. *Helen Hunt* (not Bonnie or Laura Dern.. hilarious though lol) MADE that movie! My favorite scene in "Twister" is the shower scene...I was a kid and totally didn't understand why I liked it so much..until about 4 years later at my first travel basketball camp where I made out with my roommate :p
I kept thinking Laura Dern felt wrong when all I could picture her in was her Jurassic Park outfit...but then I just figured there was probably a lot of khaki in Twister as well.
Christmas twister just sounds like the alcoholic drink I make every year to get through the holidays with my family asking if my "little phase" is over, yet. Like no, Carol, and my "little phase" is my identity and has lasted longer than your marriage, so stuff that in your stocking and leave me alone before I get mean.
The southern dialects thing cracked me up. I do some work as an audiobook narrator and as someone squarely from Michigan, I used to have just one southern accent I always reached for when needed that I basically learned from watching The Walking Dead (aka Georgia.) But there was this book I realllllly wanted to audition for that was narrated largely by a Texan character and so I basically had to retrain how I formed my ~Southern Sounds~ to make it more distinctly Texan. The nuances of regional dialects were really interesting to learn and I got to record the book so yeehaw I guess! tl;dr Texas has very flattened & nasal southern vowels, whereas east of the Mississippi, you get more rounded sounds!
Yeasssss!!! I actually live in Georgia now and the accent is catching but I came here from North Carolina where the accent is subtly different and you can always tell a Tennessee accent from a Georgia one too because where I’m at in about 30 minutes from Chattanooga. I also lived in Texas when I was younger and it is a very different accent too! it’s kind of like how in the UK regional accents are all quite different but people just lump them all together. Side note: how does one get into narrating audio books? It’s something I e always wanted to do and I’m looking for work I can do from home while my kids are at school
The Michigan accent is also super nasal, so that probably helps, lol! (As someone who is also from Michigan.) Too bad Texans don't just make all their vowels into "E" sounds, like we do.
I think it's Wired that has absolutely excellent videos on regional dialects in North America. A professional dialect coach goes through them all, explaining what distinguishes each accent while using it. He's AMAZING, and his transition from one to another is so smooth!
I'm from Arkansas and even some people here tease me about thick my accent is lol. I for sure do more nasal and shorter vowel sounds. Often when I pronounce the weekdays I pronounce "day" like "dee"
Living in tornado alley since I was born, I think I know why they moved to a different area. That diner had a ton of glass windows. You do not want to be in there when they shatter. The only thing I am confused by is... Why didn't they just go into a bathroom or something? Unless they don't have a bathroom, the bathroom has large windows, or there bathrooms are unsafe.... I don't understand why they would have to run to a completely different area. Surely there would be SOME interior/windowless area in a diner.
Never heard it called tornado "valley". It's always been Tornado Alley... at least in the AR/TX/OK/KS areas that I grew up in. And I'd take my chances huddled behind the counter in that window filled room before I'd run outside to some rickety old shed. But um, the walk in freezer, the managers office, bathrooms... any number of places inside that diner would have made more sense.
@@countryrat6t6 I meant to write tornado alley, I presume it just autocorrected to valley and I didn't notice before I commented. I live on the outskirts of tornado alley, basically. I'm convinced whoever wrote this movie didn't even take two seconds to look up tornado safety. Yeah, get out of the room with all the windows, but I can assure you a shed is just as bad 😖
Having actually lived through a tornado outbreak on Christmas Day a few years ago, I can 100% agree with your thumbnail for this video that no one asked for a “Christams Twister!” 😑 Thank you Nick for breaking down this disaster of a movie!
I live in Iowa, which is tornado country, and I have never seen people react that shocked to tornadoes or tornado sirens. Usually the family just slowly moves down to the basement while someone stands on the front lawn to see if they can spot it. Also... why pick the kids up from school? Has the school never done a tornado drill? Better to crouch against a wall in a windowless hallway than to risk being in a moving vehicle when it touches down.
the first time i ever slept in a tent my mom woke up in the middle of the night and told us to come inside because she had a bad feeling, and a little while later a tornado came and ripped our tent apart.
I've been having to level grind in a game all day and i've been so distracted away from every video I've had on in the background and I was *LITERALLY* just thinking about going through and rewatching older Clip Breakdowns because I love having you on in the background and I never get distracted from those, so when this popped up I started feeling like maybe Jesus does exist because this timing is honestly horrifying. So excited to listen to a long form video from you, Nick!!! Much love!
@@TimeSong426 As sad as it sounds, not an MMO or any RPG, but a little more lame and it's the app Gardenscapes 😂 I did awful keeping up with a month long event because of a ton of other games, so I'm having to mindlessly play level after level to finish about 275+ levels in 30 hours. Trust me: I WISH it was any KH or any FF because then it wouldn't sound as pathetic 😅
I love your videos because you don’t just snark films to point out flaws (which I love), but you also give ways to improve errors while still trying to operate within the original vision, whether it’s a vision you like or not. I feel like I’ve actually become a better story teller by watching you, which is admittedly not what I was expected
I've never watched most of the movies you've covered on your channel, but I love being able to follow along, laugh, and learn interesting "behind the scenes" insights about makeup lighting and special effects, AND random facts I never knew I needed to know like what could happen to missing kids after a natural disaster. You're both funny and informative, keep it up Nick!
Nick can say the raunchiest thing and follow it with that adorable giggle and it’s somehow wholesome 😂 Also, as someone with a minimum of three drinks going at any time I feel very seen by all the hydration happening here 💖
Thank you for always bringing up important social and political issues in such an eloquent, intelligent, and easily understood way. You're hilarious but also super smart, and making (even if a small) difference with tying in these important topics into otherwise lighthearted videos. Love you for that! 😘
I absolutely love that Nick does that. It's important because it's bringing attention to important issues in a digestible way that doesn't feel like it's preachy or just shoehorned in there.
I wouldn't even call it a religious movie, there's like no mention of Jesus other than the Nativity set miraculously surviving. It's like they forgot to actually make it a religious movie, or a tornado movie, or a science movie, or a divorce movie.
I’m sitting here in my hospital bed literally having finished watching the entirety of RU-vid when your notification popped up and It’s giving me life!! It’s that or the pain meds… pretty sure it’s you tho 💕💕💕
I think the trope of a team(or tiny group) of scientists trying to find out what the disaster is, how big is it, and where it's going to strike comes from how it's done in real life. I saw a documentary recently of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake/tsunami, and there was a team in Hawaii who was tracking the whole thing and trying to figure out where it was coming from, and if it was to hit them how big it would be, + aftershock. its kinda funny how this movie has a science team of 3 people, with one being a woman who for some reason doesn't understand how tornadoes work but is still there for ??? I feel like a proper science team would have more people, plus making calls to different stations to see their stats and stuff, but idk, im not a science person
Extra anxious lately and your videos are so helpful- if you've noticed a spike in views or watchtime lately, I won't take all the credit, but I'm certain I've contributed lol. Thank you for this content! 🙌
This has been my favorite low budget disaster movie for quite a long time now, so I’m really excited to see it getting more attention from a big RU-vidr! I honestly couldn’t believe it when I saw the title, though. Pureflix was the last place I expected to find this movie from how little screentime the actual Christams part gets lol
It probably would have been a better movie if the writer or director (or anyone attached) had actually been in a tornado before. Everyone looked like they had no idea what was going on. Most of those people would have grown up having had to sit hours in the hallways of their schools with books on their heads several times every year. I did enjoy the tornado hunting the family down like the ouija shark's offspring trying to avenge its death.
I remember being at home for tornados before we had anything better than a cellar to hole up in. We called it the spider dungeon because we never went down there, and when we heard that a tornado'd been spotted, we'd take stools into the cellar and sit there in the almost dark for too long. I think it was 2 years ago was the last tornado sighting near where i lived and i just moved my computer to the basement and kept playing a video game. Oh how times have changed I think our schools had us in bathrooms when we had tornado drills, but we never used books over our head.
@@catelynh1020 my house in IA is old old, and last Wednesday me and my fam got to hang out in our spider hole for an hour 😆. has the old style slanted in-ground tornado shelter dooringle, packed dirt floor, single hanging bulb, and all the spiders. Had to go down with a broom to clear the cobwebs because I knew if we needed to go down my 2 kids would lose their shiit if they got webbed in the face.
I love how you have a long intro to make it welcoming for new viewers, but also add in enough jokes and info for returning viewers to not get bored. I never find myself skipping your intro even though I have pretty serious ADHD.
I was really confused by the scene of the dad carrying out his son, and the daughter and her friend celebrating. I thought, "This really looks like an end-of-the-movie shot, and we're still in the first or second act." That's when I looked at the time and realized we actually WERE just about at the end of the movie. This movie literally had nothing happen and no stakes whatsoever.
Always love hearing you talk about your own experiences with being on a set, it adds so much to the commentary! Pointing out a problem, talking about why it might be like that, and saying how you’d improve upon it really helps me as an avid movie watcher to stop and consider these points when I watch movies. Keep up the great videos!
19:55 I personally, genuinely enjoy and respect the way you have this incredible balance of humor, constructive criticism, and brief social justice speils in the way you present your videos. While it’s true I come primarily for the reviews and your sense of humor, the reason I love your channel more than most others on RU-vid is because of this balance. Most of the content you review I have never seen, heard of, or don’t remember but I never fail to enjoy your videos. I often share with friends and family, and I feel that even the more politically-conservative ones truly enjoy your videos. I wish more RU-vidrs were like you. Thanks for the info and laughs❤️
I just really wanna see Christmas lights get sucked up into the fake tornado, slurped up off the house like nature is chowing down on some delicious angel hair pasta 😂 PLEASE TLL ME they took the time to create this with their cgi! I’ll be disappointed if they missed this opportunity. Ps: def can’t wait for episode 3 & 4 of that pureflix “Christian shameless” show!
The people who conceived this movie was likely salivating when they watched the 1996 *Twister* movie and was thinking what if they could make something similar but with "Christian values" minus the budget.
I’m not sure if this movie was genuinely trying to make a good movie, if they were making a christmas “sharknado” type movie, or if this movie is just a fever dream
@@doperagu8471 I was looking for niche holiday horror movies to post to a blog years ago, and I was won over by the simplistic, but goofy poster. I don't think I've seen anyone review it yet though. Edit: I just saw a screenshot and I'm in love with it already.
You know it’s gonna be good when the video is an hour long - but then you see the title of the movie and it’s hilarious misspelling; “CHRISTAMS TWISTER” and you realize this is the greatest Xmas present you didn’t even know you needed.
How… how did they leave Christams in the title screen?? The editor, the director, possibly the producer, NOBODY paid enough attention while reviewing the edit to catch THAT? And once they put it out and it was noticed they just left it like that?? Nothing screams to me how much actual effort went into this film quite like that.
Casper Van Dien is interesting, when he starred in Starship Troopers, it was thought he had a major movie career in front of him. However, he's ended up doing mostlly just SyFy movies and straight-to-streaming stuff. He's one of those pretty boys that just doesn't seem to have a lot else going on. But hey Hollywood is feel of Himbos.
Heh. They should be legally required to make a noise? 😂 Do you know how *loud* a tornado is when it's close? Trust me, they don't sneak up right behind you, catching you off guard. I lived most of my life in an area with tornadoes every year. I had always heard that they sound like a freight train, but had never been close enough to hear one. In 2007, there was an F5 in my area, luckily only destroying farmland for the most part. By the time it reached my town it wasn't at that category anymore (or it may more likely have been a separate, smaller tornado, there were several that day and I'm not sure.) My house was on the edge of town and the tornado hit a short way away. The noise was unreal, like metal being twisted and torn apart. I have no idea why it sounds like that. I was sensibly sat in the centre of my concrete-walled basement with the rest of my family so didn't see it. As an interesting point, we would always head to the basement any time there was bad weather and the sky turned green. That colour sky was almost always followed with a tornado alert. I also have no idea why the sky turns that colour.
The green color of the sky has something to do with the height of the clouds and the moisture in them, if i remember right. Like a reverse of a sunset. Green clouds isn't specifically for tornados, but for severe weather in general. Where i live, we get greenish tint to the clouds before it hails so i've learned to cover my car if i see green skies. Now, greenish skies and a sudden stillness in the weather is much scarier to me. Last tornado that touched down near me, i saw the sky was pretty murky and kept an eye on the windows. When the wind died down pretty suddenly i immediately moved to my basement. That was also about the time that the sirens went off, so i'm glad i did. The tornado was a bit out of town and didn't do much damage, but it did touch down
this video was perfect. as soon as I think you couldn’t possibly get any more funny or creative or intelligent you simply ~do~. you are a gift from the universe
in love with your tongue in cheek commentary. thank you for your subtle acknowledgement of social issues in your videos, it isn’t unnoticed. i know we have a parasocial relationship but i love you and all of your wonderful content❣️can’t wait until you hit a million subs !!!!!
Thank you for mentioning the Build Back Better initiative so often. I am a copyeditor for a high-up politician in the US Democratic Party and a lot of his writing focuses on the lack of mainstream media attention the initiative is getting. I'm so glad you have focused your platform recently on covering this initiative and the actual policies. It aims to be one of the biggest and most influential policies addressing climate change in history. It REALLY needs to pass. I always appreciate that you use your platform for good! Love u Nick!
yes yes yes as a gen z basically everyone gets their info off tiktok or Twitter and ofc since those places are breeding grounds for negativity and misinformation, everybody parrots talking points about how nOtHiNg iS gEtTiNg FiXeD and literally encouraging each other not to vote 😬 even a lot of news media tends to focus on negatives since that gets more clicks and nobody reports on any good news so the cycle just continues. thank you so much for your work!
I love movies that are so-bad-it's-good. The crappiness is what makes it entertaining. You watch to mock and lampoon and throw things (like popcorn and pillows) at the TV. So-bad-it's-good movies must be preserved.
This was hilarious! Idk why but I lost it when you had the apple on the stick and after you took a bite it fell off and you said "my apple!", I'm laughing typing this lol. Your videos always make my day!
Thank you Nick so much for this hour long masterpiece I've yet to watch. I'm so burnt out. I really need some better energy. It feels like everyone in my real life wants me to go away, so I'll gladly retreat to watch this.
I know that feeling really well... just know that you are loved, you have value, people need you and they want you around. But it's also super valid to need to retreat for a bit. And Nick is a great human to watch and retreat with 😉 I hope you feel better soon! Sending all the love ❤
I’ve been in a similar place lately. But ya know what, anyone that doesn’t see our worth and value in their lives is blind and will be the poorer for it. We deserve to be shown true care like the care we show others and if people suck away our energy and we don’t get any positives back from them in return we have every right to retreat from them and focus on ourselves and self love/care. Your so valued in this world and do t you forget it! 🥰❤️
Madelyn and Zoe Deutch are both the daughters of Lea Thompson and I was mad that you didn't mention that but then I realize most people our age aren't obsessed with 80s actresses the way I am lol.
I really like watching your videos while I do my makeup in the morning. And whenever you start getting a lil wild with your shimmying It never fails to make me laugh and say "niiiick” like ur an old friend. Your videos are great and they bring me a lot of laughs which is much needed for me lately, so thank you!
27:29 I don’t know why, probably because I’m a terrible person, but this scene has me cracking up. I don’t know what it is; the pitiful screams of “Ahhh!”, the cheap as hell CGI or the way he stared at the twister like he was deaf, dumb & blind until the last minute. But, whatever the reason, I freaking loved that whole sequence. I was, like, “Bye!” as I watched him fly away. 🤣
I googled "religious natural disaster movies" to possibly suggest another one and "This is the End" popped up (along side actual religious movie Noah). Made me chuckle. This video also didn't feel like an hour, your comedy makes it fly by!
Watching my beloved Michigan Wolverines play for the conference championship. As someone who never watches TV the commercials are a nightmare so I turned to Nick to fill that time with wit and wisdom. Thank you for these videos, they are pure perfection
I shit you not - I'm 5.5 minutes into this video, and I just saw lightening flash outside my window (then heard thunder) and it tripped my brain for a few seconds lool. I live in Eastern Canada and it's December, so abnormal to see lightening now! Watching this caused an irl Christmas storm for me. 😂
Also, usually the day after a tornado is really quiet because the imminent danger has passed and everyone is out surveying the damage. It's when it's still dark and raining and right after it happens that the chaos is heard
Technically, in "The Day After Tomorrow", Dennis Quaid's scientist character wasn't actually wrong. He was the one people weren't listening to. I think the only thing he might've been wrong about was that he didn't anticipate it to happen so quickly (but I could be wrong about that part). I know I'm being one of those "UM ACTUALLY" people and I loveee your videos, but I did want to point that out despite it being a terrible movie.
I saw that movie and even though Emmy Rossum had my teenage heart, I hated it. Dennis Quaid was very concerned about global warming but he both doesn't predict what will actually happen and is way off on the timeline. I didn't know at the time that it was the fake science jammed and smashed into a condescending and manipulative script for me EDIT: Quaid's character does mention something about a new ice age, but I don't remember if he says it's coming or it's one of several possible disasters. Either way, he doesn't predict unnatural cold-air cyclones that would never happen in this universe's laws of nature and physics
I live in a town hit by recent & severe tornado/storm killing many. All the while, I'm giggling my ass off thinking about this particular video...people thought I was losing my mind, nope just my shit.
Also, blaming Zeus for the patriarchy is kinda accurate; as western culture dud come from greece. But I think it'd be false to say westerners are the only patriarchal groups. But seeing as Greece is also the birthplace of fascism... wouldn't be surprised if that played a big part.
