Chrome OS updates come with great regularity, but sometimes those updates come along with a few lingering bugs. At times these are minor inconveniences, but other times the issues are stifling and require users to move back to an older version of the OS. If you find yourself needing to go back so your Chromebook will work properly, here's a quick guide.

funny thing happened on my way to v105!! After v99 my chromebook(ASUS C423/na) just boot loops after the sign in screen fails to sign in then on hard reset boot loop.... any help would be wonderful as i keep having to manually install v99 again and again. my chromebook was scheduled for its last update in June but last min was given another 2 years of updates.

what about touchscreen settings? my lenovo was touchscreen and after it updated it updated into a version of a chromebook with no touchscreen settings. i even searched for the touchscreen settings on my laptop and its as if they never existed, as if my laptop was never touchscreen. would reverting it its previous version give me back touchscreen?

The reason I would like to go back as far as I can to an earlier chrome os version is because with the recent updates Google has eliminated completely the option for instant theathering, it doesn't even show up on the menu. I would like to continue to connect my chromebook to the internet through my phone own internet connection, direct connect, not via hotspot wifi. Please help on either how to go back to version 79 or how to get that function/feature working again. I am using the same android phone that worked before, and a HP x360 chromebook with Celeron processor. Thank you. Since we are in the subject, how do I errase the list of all prior connected phones to my chrome os account, that is causing me issues. I need to start fresh with a clean list so that I can pair my phone again from scratch.

Can you make a video showing how to update an older chromebox (CXi2 in my case) or chrome OS device to the latest version with the Google play store... I think if I install it Thur linux I can do it but I wasn't sure if there was an easier way. Stupid thing about this whole situation is it was actually supposed to be updated by Acer to have access to the Google play store... Or at least that's what was advertised when the product was released. You can still find Google pages stating that this will be updated.

I just clicked on the notification to update the latest firmware. Well after that, my chromebook won't turn on, it's flickering and the screen turns dark, but you can see the light on in the background, but that's it. Then it tries to turn on again with no success until I turn it off. 😢 What can I do?

I have 2 chromebooks that have crashed after latest update but can't access settings except in guest mode which won't allow me to powerwash. Any suggestions? The only one I can use is an old chromebook that can no longer get updates.

Loved it. Can you people make a review of the Asus ProArt PQ22U connected to a chromebook? That portable display with OLED and HDR10 support should be a great choice for Chromebooks. Please consider it.

Updating the chromebook made the chromebook in restarting loop...only alt+refresh+power works for install the software... Anyway to download the old versions and install it?

I am having a issues with my samsung chromebook even after trying everthing - Screen goes malfunction when you start suing the touch screen and soon as you change the orientation ( using it as a tablet mode) , any solutions ?

I have had an issue with my Lenovo Chromebook Duet not wanting to update any apps. I can use Chrome but none of my apps ever get updated. I have powerwashed the chromebook several times but it does not fix the issue. I asked Lenovo and Google about it like a year ago and did not get any solution. Any help would be appreciated.

How long should I wait when it says 'Your system is applying a critical update. Do not turn off.' It has been 48 hours now, will it resolve itself? Has it actually worked for anybody? Will my data be deleted even after this process any way?

I DID THE REVERT but the update but button is still not showing where it says chrome os, in setting. I don't know what I did but it is just not showing itself up there anymore.

Today I got a ASUS Chromebook C436. It came with 79 so I clicked to update to 83. Afterwards it wouldn't boot. No hard boot, nothing. Brought it back to the store, guy tried a lot, still black screen. He said it was broken and gave me my money back. Had 2 Chromebooks before. Never had any problems. Any ideas?

i need help someone- so, i'm not sure if i should do this, when i did an update on my chroebook i cant sign in without a message error saying "cant verify password please try again. check keyboard layout then try again." has anyone got this? not sure if i did something wrong or what, i was signing just fine before hand. i'm currently on a guest account. which is weird because i sign in just fine on it, but why cant i sign in on my real account? on my chromebook?

My dell inspiron 14 2in1 chromebook had some weird noises the fan act up each time I boot up or re boot. Pls reply if you anything about this

That's odd..I have same device...the 7486 and rarely hear fan noise.

that did not work for me, what worked instead was using recovery media, chrome OS 98 was causing volume problems for me on my asus c202xa so I ended up going back to version 97, I already submitted feedback ad really do not want to update until its fixed, new to chromebooks

Unfortunately, this didn't help my issue. My Chromebook says no camera detected. I see the icon for the camera and click it. All that comes up is a camera outline image. For some reason, my chromebook no longer detects a camera. It used to work now, it doesn't. Any suggestions?

I have been getting this error message on Hulu with every video I try to watch on my [old] Chromebook: hulu error code rununk13. I have cleared cookies, cache, history, and nothing works. I guess I have to back up all of my info on this Chromebook to a USB thing before I do a Powerwash; right?

If you have not figured it out that yes if you have any info stored on the book itself yes back it up it a USB stick. I learned this the hard way back on windows 3.1.

@@mikeorjimmy2885 Thank you, I did that, but the CB has since been dying a slow, tortured death! Numbers/Symbols keys no longer work, entering data the cursor jumps around wherever it wants. So I purchased a new Lenovo Flex 5 14 Windows 10 during Good Friday sales, which I am VERY happy with. The CB was nice while it lasted (7? years) and taught me that I prefer a Windows OS over Chrome. Que sera, sera.

I enjoy your vlogs. I have a problem you might want to comment on. As a user of Drive and OneDrive I have in the past been able to copy files from one to the other and back in the "Files" app but no longer. I can do this on a PC and on IOS but no longer on my ASUS C434T. OneDrive is marked as Read only in Files. Is this a microsoft issue or Google? Is there a way round it? The Cromebook community needs your input and help and perhaps your influence to sort this, otherwise its back to a PC or IOS device.. Thanks. Peter

I actually use CX File Explorer from Google Playstore - I add my cloud accounts & use that. The default "Files" management app on ChromeOS is awful imo. I use an Acer R13 Chromebook & CX File Explorer works very well.

Might still be hardware Your chromebook has a display controller and GPU The Display Controller is conducted by the GPU to produce the image The GPU is the thing that produces the image

I'm glad that my HP Chromebook 14 doesn't update automatically; I was kind of annoyed having to go Check For Updates manually every-so-often but since I was totally unaware of an issue with an update I now know not to do that until there's a fix for whatever is wrong.

I own a Lenovo S340 which is not an expensive model and it works just fine 4Gb ram and 64Gb emmc. It may be all plastic but has not let me down. It all depends really on what you need. I use it for web browsing, email, youtube videos, playing music with a microsd for added storage. The battery life is excellent..It cost me about £250 in the UK. Never had a single issue with an update to Chrome OS.

I only o asked because I read in a android article about having chromebook's a certain type of update (not sure If it be free or whay) still so you use it wayy past it's auto update expiration date. Google needs to start doing this with at least a couple different Android Phones. One of the biggest problems with Android is the fact that they only get 3-4 years of upgrades, and it's up to the manufacturers to fix the bugs.

I feel like a lot of other channels are quite biased towards Chrome OS as a mac or PC user. Thing is, chrome OS does everything I need my laptop for, I could even run linux apps if I wanted So this channel is my safe place lol
