I adore the progressively personal direction of this channel. This is certainly not to say that your videos were previously lacking in said personal aspect, of course. Indeed, your highly individual yet uniquely universal resonance has always been one of my unequivocal favorite elements of your art. Rather, it's simply a joy to experience these wonderful works of fiction through the lense of your journey with storytelling and analysis, and I feel as if that particular stylistic and thematic component has become increasingly central to your work of late. Just a lil observation regarding the trajectory of your channel, I do hope it doesn’t sound too terribly awkward of me to invoke. Always incredibly happy when you upload. Have a nice day, good sir!

I jumped with joy when I saw your notification. Chrono Trigger also changed my life. I remember so vividly, stumbling upon it in my childhood and was so entranced with everything. It was at that moment that I knew I was playing my favorite video game. It still hasn't been topped for me. I'm glad I wasn't alone on this. Wonderful video. Keep up the amazing work.

You have one man to thank for the Kingdom of Zeal: story editor Masato Kato. He was the one who came up with it and insisted on it being included in the final game. He was the one who devised it as this very special place where the puzzle pieces of the game come together in a way the player never expected. He was also the main story editor in Final Fantasy VII, by the way. Quite an interesting fellow.

WOW, I mean WOW. I never thought i would hear from another person that the most impactful moment of Chrono trigger was first seeing the kingdom of zeal. I felt it as such a personal moment and it changed how i saw video games forever. Its so awesome that you felt the impact of that moment, it really is the turning point of the whole game, its overall message. I want people to play Chrono trigger to get the massive scope and feelings it gave me.

My favorite game, no question about it. I’m from Chile so I speak spanish, and got the rom years ago… was immediately captured by it’s beauty and music, so I had no option but to push forward with a spanish-english dictionary IN HAND (yeah, there was no Google Translate back then). A magical experience in so many levels, it felt like I was right there growing up with the characters along the journey.

Me too man. It was my first console game ever. I got a hand-me-down SNES with bunch of games in a plastic bedsheet thing (you know the container thing they come in) anyway Chrono Trigger stood out to me for some reason and I remember grinding all my characters to level 99 in the rainforest in 65 mil b.c. I couldn't beat the last stage of Lavos (I was 6 or 7) and I just never beat it until I got it at 16 for Christmas and then I finally beat the game. So yeah it basically took me 10 years to beat Chrono Trigger. Frog is my all-time favorite character, he's my pfp on a lot of stuff lol.

Genuinely ow of my favorite video games ever made. The music also holds a very special place in my heart. It's so masterfully crafted and composed. I remember being like 4 or 5 and playing a little bit here and there on my older brothers SNES so hearing any of the OSTs fill me with nostalgia.

I kinda get it, when I was young I played Dragon Warrior 7 because the guy in the cover looked like Link. At this time I learned enough English to mostly understand common things, but still needed to use a dictionary/translator to get more complicated topics. Bear in mind, this was like, 20 years ago, so the only memories that remain of that game is its absurd length due to grinding / class changes, a festival were my man Kiefer fell in love with a tribal princess and ONE song. I experienced sadness as a child, but never had any piece of media evoked actual sorrow in me. Most of the game consists of the group teleporting to an island in the past, witnessing a tragedy in progress (kidnappings, needing to sacrifice someone, slow death of a tribe) and working towards fixing the issue and/or saving the people, your reward being that the island is now present at the future, YEARS after you saved it. So you do that twice, and you believe "Oh, I get the formula, it's like a cartoon with a weekly villain and story". So you go to the third island, which is super small and only has a small town in the center. You enter it, and you are greeted by this song: Dragon Quest VII - Days of Sadness It's the sad theme of the game, but I heard it for HOURS since I got stuck. The town is covered in statues of people deteriorated by the elements, and you learn that this was caused by a mysterious rain. In the night, you can see the souls within the statues remembering their last moments, and realize that the old man that you meet, is the only survivor of the rain 50 years ago, he found the cure but their bodies were already too damaged. There was a note in a bookshelf that you need to find to progress, but I couldn't find it. For hours, I tried everything I could, sleeping multiple times, staying in random places a couple of minutes at a time, leaving and returning after a while passed, and nothing. I remember I started crying, both due to frustration for being stuck and because I thought the game ended there, and the music went on and on for so long that I still remember that song PERFECTLY. Later I found the bookshelf and rescued the only person who was petrified while indoors, and the game treated this moment as if I had saved the village (which I did since there were the only two surviving people), but at the time I thought nothing about rescuing the kid and only felt sadness because a whole village disappeared and I couldn't be the hero. Even when you go to the future, the only thing you find is a stone that served as the center of the village. Sure, later you recruit people to rebuild the village, so you technically save the town. But honoring their memory by moving forward in their name isn't the same as saving them. Anyways, might actually play the game again, now that I think about it, no wonder the game was rated for Teens with that much sadness and suffering in it.

Great video and I've felt something similar when I first played it. Wind Scene also my absolute favorite track of the OST. I don't recall if you have already tried Chrono Cross, but I highly recommend it. Don't go in expecting Chrono Trigger 2, it definitely aims to a different vibe, much more somber and melancholic. But if you love the sense of wonder and the dream-like feel of the Kingdom of Zeal, Chrono Cross is all about that. Quite literally. This section of Trigger and the whole of Cross are written by the same guy (Masato Kato), and he definitely nails this feeling of wonder and mystique you feel in Zeal. The OST as you know is also magnificent. The game is not without its flaws and development issues, but I feel it makes up for it in heart and this ethereal feeling of living in a dream it provides. The FPS issues of the PC port were fixed recently in a patch, so it should be pretty easy to play it now. Thanks for the videos, cheers!

@@berserk4souls I prefer to see it as the other side of the coin, Sean. As someone who was on the CT train it took a while for me to notice what a gem CC is. Basically CT is the Dragonball of the series with well intentioned kids who think they can solve the planets problems with happy go lucky shonen action and CT is Berserk showing you things are not so simple and that out little heroes could be seen as the unintentional villains from another perspective. The extra ending in CTDS just pretty much confirms it's a sequel and with time a superior one at that. (Aside from the CT godlike pacing. No other game can match that tight experience)
