Dalton is defeated, and our heroes are equipped with a flying machine in their upgraded Epoch. Spotting a figure on the north cape, they approach, believing it to be Crono - and find Magus instead, looking over the remains of Zeal and his plans.

So Magus is Sans then? Also, I beleive you get Schala's pendant regardless of whther you kill him or not. Could be wrong but isn't the magical pendant that opens sealed chests and doors technically Schala's pendant?

@@reddawn1873 You do get it regardless of choice, but if you kill Magus, he drops it on death, while if he joins you, it's just in his accessory slot, so it's theoretically possible for someone to miss it.

When Magus's theme started playing I was sitting here like "No... are they really going to kill Magus in the musical?!" only to find myself relieved and impressed when you seamlessly combined both of the choices. Still enjoying all of this so far.

I love that verse "Living is pain, so stop it, you finish what you've begun!" Magus is basically saying "Just kill me, already!" He's grieving over losing his sister again, so deep!

Powerless.. Dude was ruthlessly mocked to high hell.. I sort of felt bad for him. It's amazing he didn't just go completely mad.

I'm just here to kill Lavos. Magus, when Crono is brought back: YA GOT WHACKED, CUS YOU'RE WEAK! (actual in game dialogue from the OG translation) It's interesting that Magus clearly doesn't like Crono or the party in general but would still blame himself for their loss

@@therapscallion64753 Magus just sees the party as a means to an end. They're tools to him, in his eyes, they have the same goal as him anyway, so he figured numbers this time would be more ideal for his position.

I like to imagine Robo trying to stop Magus and Frog, but Ayla stops him like: "No! Duel. Ayla and Robo not stop duel. Only they." Maybe Ayla's tribe have duels as a sacred demonstration of strength.

Most likely. Ayla, as a caveperson, would probably respond best to strength. Hearing Frog challenge Magus, no matter the intent, she'd most likely stop any and all interference, as to step in for a fight between two men is to spit in the face of their ideals, their convictions, their strength.

Oh my god I loved the exposition. Usually exposition feels forced, but this helped connect the dots in just the right way, and when they started fighting they had those powerful vocals that give me chills while also keeping that slight melancholic tone, frog was acting out of anger and magus was just defending himself, and it shows in the lyrics and I just love that. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Some spoilers for Chrono Trigger below! Don't click if you don't want to see! It wasn't Magus defending himself, but rather goading Glenn into attacking. He tried to take on Lavos only to utterly fail, have most of his strength and magic stripped away, and once again see his homeland of Zeal fall into the sea and Schala claimed by Lavos. His whole purpose when he was cast through time was to get vengeance for the life he lost. After Crono and co. stopped him in the Middle Ages and he was sent back to Antiquity, he realized he had a chance to stop Lavos and save his sister and his kingdom. But, well, you've seen what happened whether through the musical or by playing the game. After everything, realizing that he was doomed to fail from the start, he feels that there's no point in anything anymore, that it's better to give up than to struggle fruitlessly against Lavos. That's what I think anyway.

Phew! For a second I thought they would kill Magus. For those who hasn't played the game: Magus can be killed if you chose to fight him, and if you succeed, he will drop off an accesory, but it's more likely the pendant that her sister, Schala, gave him, when she was summoned by their mother. I'd rather not fight Magus, since he can use the four elements (lightning, ice/water, fire and darkness), and I'll make him fight Zeal, so it will plays his theme song instead of the boss music.

You get the amulet regardless if you fight Magus or not. It's just equipped to Magus if you decide to have him join you instead. The main change that killing Magus brings is that the curse upon Frog is undone during the ending scenes I believe. Though, admittedly, it's been awhile.

I realized that the reason Marle and Lucca haven’t been in this last two songs *is* because they were in a lot of earlier Act 2 songs, but also that they’re grieving :( This song is great though. Kikyo did a great job with the art!

a couple months ago I replayed the game, and I remembered from my previous runs that I always liked to have Lucca and Frog in my team, so I wanted to keep Lucca in again, but after playing a bit I realized (or reremembered?) just how amazing every single character is, so I started to rotaet through everyone constantly, just to get everyones reactions and interactions as often as possible. I wish that the entire party would follow you around constantly. They are all amazing

@@jaredwalley5692 Haha nope. That ain't how it works. I think if Frog chose to fight, Magus would kill Frog the moment froggy boy let his guard down. Because at that point Frog would have made it clear that it's him or Magus, and Magus would pick Magus. If you want the scary quasi-evil wizard guy to be your friend, put the damn sword away.

Magus/ Janus's line of "Carry the pain of the fallen ones" hits different for me. I had a friend who passed on recently. He kept visiting the old neighborhood we both grew up in and where I currently live. We kept trying to plan a meet-up to have a quiet drink together and just chat about old times. Week before last, he was on the job as a solar panel installer and fell off the roof he was on. Forty foot drop. He struggled to hold onto life and passed away on day eight after the accident. The day right before Labor day. His aunt, my next door neighbor, told me about it and I just broke down crying after I went back inside the house because he died before we could actually have that talk over some good booze. In a way, I now carry the pain because it was a missed opportunity compounded by our schedules never matching up. Keith, you were a better man than I could ever be. I just wish I could've said it to you sooner when you were here to hear it.

So this is the Magus lives path. My personal favorite as Dark Matter is WAY too much fun to use once it's unlocked. Takes forever, but it is SO worth it... Also character reasons. Did I want Frog to be consumed by his need for revenge...or decide the revenge was unnecessary in the end? Usually I end up choosing the latter because I want him to be a better person than me.

I wonder if this (absolutely fantastic) musical will incroporate some of the optional sidequests. Cyrus's Grave, the restoration of the forest, what caused the future to become even bleaker, the rainbow shell. As much as I love the Sun Stone side quest, that one doesn't really have character defining moments, unlike the other 4.

@@FluffyDragonDrawing yeah i think he’s talking about tone you have done As far as i know every character (minus ayla) has a quest (rainbow shell for marle sun stone for luca cyrus grave for frog ozzie for magus the geno dome for robo and the revival for chrono) and then theres the restoring the forest wich does not seem to be bound to any single party member (although lucas big moment is here and not in the sun stone one). If i had to take a guess i think he’s talking about the geno dome because it is in the future and mad ethe future more bleek and its the only quest that he did not mention that has a big moment for a character.

@@FluffyDragonDrawingHe's definitely not their friend, and he saw Chrono as a brazen fool trying to body Lavos like that, but he still cared enough to inform his friends that he was not lost forever. He could've easily said nothing but he chose to anyway, this tells me Magus knew the pain his friends were facing and didn't exactly want to watch them suffer what he did. If you talk to him as Chrono when he gets revived, he calls Chrono a complete fool and tells him weaklings only get killed, and is he wrong? Chrono WAS stupid to challenge Lavos.

Well, he’s not a natural frog. Magus cursed him to take that form, which is part of the rivalry they show here. A more fitting voice for a frog would’ve conflicted with his knightly personality.

I like Magus as a character here,But in the game he's kind of a dick! If you recruit him Frog never gets rid of his curse,Meaning he contiously never released the curse! I never got this,Even if he has a bit of a redemption arc he'll always be stained in my memory because of that.
