To enhance fuel economy Chrysler released the A500/A518 overdrives in the late 80s and 90s. The units were retitled 42/48RH/RE. Computer control was limited on these models.
To further improve the offering Chrysler released the RFE (Rear wheel, Fully Electronic) family of transmissions in 1999. Although the transmissions started out as four speed, they became five speeds and even six speeds in later years. The list entails 45RFE, 545RFE, 65RFE, 66RFE & 68RFE.
Over the years, changes have occurred to components such as the pump, valve body and solenoid body with the most recent changes occurring in 2019. Use caution when interchanging parts.

Just getting ready to replace my valve body and filters in my 2004 Dodge Dakota slt V8 4x4. Transmission delays in up and down shifting. I haven't taken it apart yet, but the valve body I got has a green gasket around the solenoid, versus black. I'm hoping that's what I have. Wondering about the differences between them? Also, after finding this video, it makes me wonder if I could or even have a reason to, upgrade my transmission to a six speed? At almost 18 years old and just over 90k miles, it's held up pretty well. Kids and grandkids have been hard on it though.

Jumped the gun. Got my answer about the gasket and connector color in your next video. Some great videos and clear explanations. 🙏

So It Looks Like Changing Out The Stator Support And Pump Gear For The 2 Flat Will Not Make A Newer 65 / 68 Pump Work In A 545 With That Update Pump Cover. I Think The Only Way Way To Make A 65-68 Pump Work In A 545 Is If I Use A 65 Cover And A New Torque Converter.

Pump assembly and cover (hubcap) must be used as a set. The new design can retro back to 1999. Transmission types must be maintained (45RFE, 5-45RFE, 65RFE) & (66RFE, 68RFE). The 66RFE pump is the same as the 65RFE.
