Both of their songs had me Jammin' in my living room. Their songs also bring back fond childhood memories of going to block parties, family cookouts, and dancing in the Soul Train line. 2-5-2021(Fri.)

While Rick James version is more of pure funk song. Chuck Brown version fuses elements of funk and go go. I give this one to Chuck. They're both great fun songs though.

Chuck Brown is much more live where Rick James is more produced/isolated tracking. 2 great versions yet so different. Chuck funks a little harder, it being live and all.

I grew up when both these songs came out the same year. These are two different songs. Both were just as popular and Funky. Neither were considered better than the other back then. They both had the same amount of air play on the radio and at parties.

Love that "Bustin' Loose" by Chuck Brown. BUT that Rick James hahaha! Turns everything out with that "Bustin' Out". Rick James came out like what the "H" is that! With that look and that style that hair that voice! Please loved it!

I remember when these songs came out. My buddies Mom got him "Bustin Loose" rather than "Bustin Out" which he wanted. We cracked up about that. You have to go with Slick Rick.

Damnit y’all! I want to say tie so bad because I love both songs. However comma 😂 listening to them back to back I have to give Rick the slight edge and that’s not because it from my hometown and my aunt used to party with him. It’s just more stanky funky and I like my funk to stank to high heaven

Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers. I saw them live in Anacostia Park in Washington D.C. in 1973. When they did this song we were doing the bump at that time. Great memories!

It's kinda hard to compare one to the other because each person did his own great stuff to gather crowd. But I think busten loose was like an anthem in many campuses Nevertheless, Rick's come get it album was a hit
