Chumming for Catfish - Episode 1

I catch my new PB to start off the chumming series and it was probably one of the craziest catches I've ever had. Things start of slow here in episode 1 of the chumming series as the first hour we fished without chum. Finally we start to get some catfish on the bank and then the big boy takes off. Hope you enjoy episode 1 of the chumming series!

We use to chum with sour wheat using a shuffle bat with end cut off. Pour down bat and you can sling chum 20 to 30 yards out. Probably could do same with range pellets or use a wrist ticket sling shot to shoot it way out.

try freezing blocks of ground up shad. Put a rope thru the ice block so you can tie a brick to it and sink it. I use 5 gallon buckets. As it melts, it releases chum. I haven't tried it with catfish but have with sharks.

My grandpa used old milk jugs, chicken bones, chicken fat and scraps to chum with. He let it set in the hot sun for a day then he would tie a rope to the milk jug handle and throw it in the area 12 hours before he fished. I've seen him catch huge flatheads out of the Salt River in Missouri.

Id like to do something like that while I'm camping or something when I could have the time to wait. I thought about driving over 1 day and coming back the next day but it's 1.5 hour drive 1 way lol. Id say he did catch some monsters for sure like that though!

Abu Garcia 7000 c3 reels catfish edition with different rod setups. The one this flathead came on was the twc 10ft rod. It and my ugly stik big water rod are my favorite.

Mix some of the chum with some flour , water and u got some nice dough bait for channels.

The hour before dark into around 3 hours after dark have been the most productive time to catch them this year as far as night fishing goes for sure

This style of chumming here was to try and bring bait fish in creating commotion in the water next to us. We cast out further hoping to intercept catfish coming in from a distance to check out what was going on with the bait fish being up close to us.

How did you make the determinination that the chum brought them and not just the nighttime(which is usually when the bite gets the best anyway)?

I actually said in the end of the video that I don't think the chum played any factors on the fish that was caught in this video. I said that I feel like the fish that was caught could have been caught on any other night without chum pretty much.

Idk. I personally don't think the chum had anything to do with that fish coming around but it is possible.

Ive used blood chum on dead cut bait works well, Ive also use it on chicken chunks also works well. Ive used it just as chum after not getting bites and them putting it on my bait and turned a bad day into a great fishing day.

Reel Catfishing its a powder chum made by magic bait blood flavored unless they changes the package but its a red powder chum like one you was using worked really well for me.

Reel Catfishing i went looking for it today, they must of changed the package cause it doesn’t say blood flavor anymore but rest of it looks the same hope this helps
