If I were Carol I would be like, "no way, jose, you're not doing some bogus surgery just so you can send me a 3000 bill for no reason.". It's amazing how much people let doctors bully them.
This copy The Danny Thomas show from the 50s Linda didn't want to get her tonsils taken out but her dad Danny did then he had to get his out and he didn't want to
When Beaver Cleaver needed his tonsils out at first he doesn't want to but his parents tell him about no school, a pretty nurse, gifts from all your relatives and all the ice cream you can eat. Then he looks forward to it, and thinks it'll be even more fun than Christmas. He thinks he might get to ride to the hospital in an ambulance and sit up with the driver, and some of his friends are going to ask for tonsillectomies for their birthdays. Then when the doctor decides he doesn't need it, Beaver hates it.
Did you know that Carol's actress she also voiced Grand Mum on Disney Junior's Sofia the first? She's Roland's mother, Amber and James's Grandmother and Sofia's Stepgrand mother.
This is why you never volunteer to demonstrate any kind of medical examination. Sometimes, you end up having body parts removed that you fully expected to go to your grave with.
A Dr that comes to your house, those were the days. My Mom talks about this time all the time, how the Dr. would come to her house when my Grandma called.
They cut out the part when Mr. Phillips, Mike's boss calls the house, and Carol thinking that Mike is checking up on her again, tosses out a bunch of insults about Mr. Phillips and his boat. Unfortunately, when she hangs up the phone, Mike walks in.
Ugh. Dentists. Carol needing her tonsils out despite not experiencing any discomfort? Sounds like Doctor So and So was looking to pay off his wife's mink coat and trip to Europe. 🤣
Whatever happened to Dr. Porter and Dr. Cameron from last season? If Mike and Carol eventually decided to go with one doctor, it wasn't either of them. It's a wonder that Cindy didn't insist on being treated by a woman, like Petey wanted to be treated by a man in the previous season's measles episode.
Now we know removing tonsils was the wrong thing to do. It is believed to be a major factor for the polio epidemic as removing them destroyed the bodies first defense to fight it off.
The vaccine had only been out for a few years. I remember watching this as a kid in the 80s and didn't get why they all got measles as not a single kid got them where I grew up, same with mumps.
@maidahaltrecht6577 Probably to see if Carol would actually listen to the doctor's instructions, which unfortunately she didn't and Alice had been out at the supermarket. Think about it. It was 1970-71. They didn't have the technology then to actually check on our loved ones like we do today.😂
@janinewhelan4511 Speaking as a husband and as a caregiver, Janine. Sometimes, we do some Stoopid shyte.😱🤦🏿♂️ Case in point. My sister-in-law had emergency surgery, and we were unable to contact her husband (now my ex-brother-in-law). When he finally did come up for air, he told my wife that he decided to take an impromptu road trip to North Carolina (we all live in Jersey). We told him about his wife's surgery, but he still didn't come home for 2 weeks. One of the many reasons he is my ex-brother-in-law.
How did Carol still have tonsils ? You normally get those removed when you’re little . I don’t even remember getting mine removed I think I was a baby then
Most adults have their tonsils. There isn't a reason to remove them for most people. They are lymph nodes in the throat to help keep infection from going deeper into the throat. Doctors stopped taking them out for every little sore throat in the late 70s.
Not really. They did it a lot in the 50s and 60s and it is believed to be a factor in the polio epidemic as the tonsils help protect people from getting infections. Some people still get their removed if they have repeated issues with them getting infected, but its pretty rare. This was quackery we were seeing in this episode.
