You can also air dry these for a few days and they will harden nicely. I add cinnamon essential oil and hang one in my car during the holidays and I make non- holiday shapes to use year round as air fresheners. You just refresh them every few weeks they are very sturdy ..
If you want a finer grain finish to the ornaments I put the salt in my blender to powder it. You can also add the cinnamon to it to better help powder the mix. You can use a hand mixer or stand mixer to blend it into the final dough to then make your ornaments. I have also used brown food coloring and cinnamon oil for a strong cinnamon smell to whatever you want to make. Just make sure not to use too much if you have allergies cinnamon oil can cause all sorts of problems like migraines etc.
So cute... I used tulip puffy paint and gave it dimension. I did gingerbread houses with grandkids. They each did their own. This year I made resin coasters and they will decorate them with puffy paint. They call me DIY Granny because we do this every year. Thanks for sharing...hugs Sheryl 🎄🎨🎄
I always just do applesauce and cinnamon...never had ants, but sure appreciate your recipe, because the flour would be less expensive than all the cinnamon, although I buy the one dollar ones. I have some that are years old and they still smell good. This time of year I do new cinnamon ornaments, dried orange slices, and sugar cookie soaps...I had company a few days and they said your house smells wonderful. Thanks for this video. ❤
Wow!! I just remember the ones with applesauce tbat never worked out for me. A couple of questions, could you substitute a bit of nutmeg and or pumpkin spice to add with the cinnamon? And 2nd question, you mentioned putting the remaining dough in a tupperware container and put into the frig. Would a glad container work as well? And how long can you leave it in the refrigerator? The same with the corn starch extra dough too. Thank you
I add nutmeg ...sometimes pumpkin spice. I have made the applesauce and cinnamon ornaments with the kids in the family...this year no kids but my friend has three pencil trees so I made her small hearts I free cut out without a cutter. Try making them a little thicker...will male it easier. I never have problems.
How do we preserve these to keep? The mod podge? My daughter is recreating Little House on the Prairie Christmas tree with gingerbread on the tree, we will be making these! I was watching your other video and thought of painting them but wanted a more authentic gingerbread look like these
I have used both Mod podge & diluted glue ( just add drops of water at a time ) & they lasted for years . I made gingerbread men with this & used wall patch plaster,it gave a frosting look . Modeling paste can be used also the light version. Little house is a wonderful theme I know it will turn out amazing !
I have a cinnamon gingerbread man my son made many many years ago when he was little and it’s just fine still now every year when I take it out. Not sure what the recipe what is that they used to make it because he made it in school but it is holding up just fine. 🤎
I've never had a problem with cinnamon and applesauce receipt and had ornaments for a few years, I tried this method once and failed ! Maybe i'll try again,
