When my husband and were married the first christmas we didn't have money for oranments. I made these and they made it for 38 yrs. I think if I had stored them in my house instead of in a tote they would still be here. Those were my favorite. Tks for sharing

You do the best tutorials I've seen on RU-vid! I appreciate the fact you mention all the things that can go wrong so that we can avoid them. It is also refreshing to see that you have some that don't turn out the way you want so you just discard them! Have a great weekend!

I used to make dough ornaments in a similar fashion. I would paint them with acrylic paint and varnish! Can be very creative!

If you do this regularly I would invest in a “Silicone Baking Mat” such as Silpat. They are sold all over the Internet. You can roll out your dough then bake, you won’t have those lines from the parchment paper. They last for years. Thank you for the video, I think you did a wonderful job. 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Do you think you could add some kind of scent to the dough? I wonder if using essential oils would effect the consistency. A nice peppermint or balsam would smell so nice! Also, try using a straw to make the ribbon holes. Much easier.

I intend to make hanging window ornaments like these, and since I have never worked with this dough, I have a few questions: how fragile are these, after they are dried, painted and varnished? And how long do they last, indefinitely, or do they start to crack or crumble with time? Thanks in advance!

I use a rolling pin that you can unscrew the end...pour ice water in it, screw lid back on. It doesn't stick. I've yet to use this recipe, but you can try it. I got my rolling pin about 20 yrs ago from Tupperware but you can find them other places too.

In not sure if you are still making these. If you are, try the new non stick baking sheets gor rolling them out sold on Amazon. They are great for things like this. Also I use a straw for my holes. I wonder if you had taken the stamps and add paint or ink to them as you stamped if they would have been a nicer finish on the stamp area? Great video. Thanks.

Hi just a tip for the clay dough is add some glycerine to the mix while cooking this will give it a smother finish and not as sticky 😊😊 lol if you take that lovely drinking straw from your drink it will make the perfect size hole 😹😹😹

John Engle you cant use wax paper in the oven if you choose to back your ornaments on the paper. I’m sure you could add color, I’m not sure how ink works in the oven if it’s alcohol based (just a hobby crafter 😊)

Hope you see this. Thank you for sharing this with us. I'm just wondering if you could maybe roll it out kinda thick, line an ovensafe bowl with parchment paper for if you bake it, or, plastic wrap if you let it set outside - would make nice texture on the outside of the bowl. And, make a little bowl for candy dishes or potpourri .... maybe placing food coloring in them while cooking it, and, use gloves to work it. Would food coloring change the drying or shaping "ability" of it? Or, would it just be too brittle to use for a candy dish? I may try it, sometime. Thank you again for sharing this project with us.

@@findingkellyann 4 years later ;) but I've used this fantastic product called SprayWay Glass Cleaner not only on my glass cook top, but on my glass oven doors, granite kitchen counters, all mirrors, windows, glass doors, faucets, small kitchen appliances, porcelain floor tiles, glass tv screens (on a microfiber cloth), etc. It literally works on everything and leaves a fantastic shine while cleaning up pet messes as well! It was once hard to find but now my husband is able to get 3-4 cans wrapped together at one of the Warehouse stores (unsure if it's Costco, Sam's or BJ's --he shops at all three and keeps me well supplied). Other places used to charge a fortune for a single can which I'd use sparingly--saving it just for the cooktop and granite...now it's much more affordable. Everyone I've turned on to this product immediately switches to it if they can find it.
