Ever wonder why your offices won't grow into the 2x3 zone you've made for them? That's because there are no office buildings of that size!
I used the developer mode to find out all the building sizes and made a list for myself. I figured other people might want to know what they are so I'm sharing that list here. I hope some of you find this helpful! If you do, drop me a like. Thanks!

For those interest, if I did it correctly, the magical number where there is zoning for every single type are 2x4 and 3x4. Followed by 4x6 (missing high density residential), 4x4 (missing low density offices) and 5x5 (missing low density residential).

I can not thank you enough for this video! I'm one of those people who had C:S I zone sizes memorised by heart, and i used it so much, especially with the Find It! mod.

Theres a MASSIVE page in the Cities Skylines 2 Steam Community Guides page that lists EVERY sizeable, zonable building for ALL zone types.

I read one about of service builds, like schools and clínics, but not about zoneable buildings.

The reason it is '-developerMode' with a capital 'M' in the middle, is that's called 'Camel Case', which is super commonly used in software development, makes much easier to read when the different words in your variable start with a cap. Thanks for the vid, very helpful!

I'm trying an experiment with this, although it's not well controlled. Basically the issue with industry and cargo trains, ships, planes is due to a bug where eventually all new industrial growth will be raw goods storage where most of them will sit completely empty-so it messes with the game math where it doesn't calculate your trade deficits/surplus properly ..anyhoo. my experiment is when I get industrial demand, I'll put variants of level 1 industrial buildings down using the ploppable asset tool, rather than let the game keep spamming storage. I'm hoping to see if this fixes any of the cargo issues-but I already have a whole bunch of storage spawned in and don't feel like hunting all of them down.

That sounds interesting. I experimented a tiny bit yesterday just to see what would happen if I plopped down a level 5 building. I thought it might despawn or complain about taxes or something, but it didn't. I let the simulation run for a little while and nothing went wrong, but perhaps a longer test would be better. Perhaps these low density residential sizes make sense in Europe but they don't make sense where I live in western Canada. 2x4 makes the most sense out here. That is 16 meters by 32 meters or 52 feet by 105 feet. Standard residential lot size, though today they are more varied. Some single family homes today could be as small as 1x4. An estates lot could be 3 feet by 6. Anything bigger would be considered a mansion. Sizes I see as highly unlikely are 2x2, 2x3, 2x6, 3x2, 3x3, and 4x4 though no doubt they do exist. I avoid those sizes. Having spent most of my life building single family homes, I have no trouble visualizing what they would look like.

I think you have to make a compromise between realism, aesthetics and game play. If every house was exactly the same size as real life, the maps would have to be, what, three or four times bigger to make a city of substantial size. There certainly wouldn't be skyscrapers in cities/towns/villages of 3,000 people. I modeled an area of my city after the Wolseley neighbourhood of Winnipeg. My city has narrow streets and low density residential 2x2 lots and commercial/apartments on the main cross streets and I think it looks good and somewhat realistic. However, (because I'm a big geek) I just checked on Google Maps and the lots in Winnipeg are (very) roughly 8 x 32, so more like 1x4. The house I grew up in (also Winnipeg) would probably be more like 2x4 and the place I live now, (a couple of hours from Tokyo) which is a weird lot, 3x1. Even though the buildings look good, the measurements in CS2 seem kind of weird, so I don't really think of them in the actual meter sizes. That's why I like 2x3 sized lots. 4x4 does seem pretty excessive, unless you're out in the countryside or something. Thanks for you comment!

@@AgoAgoGame I hear you sir. I've noticed all kinds of discrepancies of scale in the game. I went to the trouble to check square footage of a typical house. It came to 4822 square feet! (448 square meters). So about four times the size of a typical suburban home. One that really breaks my brain is time. If you follow a person or vehicle it feels much like reality, but other than that time is just nonsensical. I am having a hard time getting a feel for the game.

Have you looked into the assets that only spawn on corners? I couldn't tell from the flyover shots if they were included.

I was not aware that there are assets that only spawn on corners. I do know that I will zone for a 3x2 building on a corner because there are no 2x3 buildings of that type, but I'm not sure if that's what you mean.

@@AgoAgoGame Mixed-use building have nice assets for corner, at least for the european style and they have shared walls, like row houses, just bigger.

I understand now. I looked at the assets and there are two styles of mixed EU corner buildings, "Left" and "Right" and they have the same zoning sizes as the other mixed buildings. Thanks for asking the question. I learned something new.

One thing I'm still trying to figure out is if there's a shortcut for when you want to zone a lot of a particular, smaller size. For example, if I want to have four 3x3 instead of one 6x6, I have to manually zone two 3x3, then wait for construction to begin, and then zone the remaining two 3x3. That would completely fill in the 6x6 area. But that's a pain. I'd rather be able to just zone it all at once and then be on my way. And it isn't even clear to me yet whether the game will continue to spawn buildings into those four 3x3 areas forever or if there will ever be conditions (like all four having their buildings be abandoned at the same time) that would cause the game to treat it as one 6x6 zoned area and spawn one 6x6 building in.

Unfortuantely it likes to pick the bigger building before the smaller one. I believe its due to property value & the mechanic behind it. Granted I could be completely wrong on that but, I have yet to see it pick the smaller building every single time nor it fill in the blanks perfectly either. I guess we will need to wait for either an update will fix it, update will provide us with more settings or a mod that will do that

I have gotten used to filling in the exact zone size I want. It's the way I played CS1 as well. I don't know, but I think that the way the timing works for abandoning and building buildings, the chance of four 3x3 turning into one 6x6 would be .001%. Maybe if there was an earthquake or fire that might change, but I turned off natural disasters in my game.

It seems to be fairly random to me. I often bulldoze smaller buildings until a larger one starts to grow.

The first number applies to width, and the second applies to depth, so both numbers can be helpful.

The first number is the number of squares against the road and the second number is the number of squares away from the road, or as@yes-hm4gk said, width and depth. As you can see from the charts, it unfortunately makes a big difference with some types of buildings.

Patience. That sounds like a glib answer, but it's true. If you wait long enough all of the zoning types go up. Some of them go up really slowly though. That's one of the reasons why I do most building and zoning at Speed 1 instead of paused.

I did not check them all, but about half of the commercial and residential and NA and EU were the same. Office and industrial only have one flavour.

should be 7x7 8x8 for all high density building... the skyscrappers size do not make sense... every rooms in highrise feel like toilet for cims scale

Yeah, it's not entirely realistic, but it still looks pretty nice. All of the really big buildings are the ones you have to plop down.

One would asume that with increasing size of buildings there would be more buildings in the game. But none of that. That's another reason for me to wait on the sideline for a better state of the game. I am still not content with the game's situation.

The game does have some shortfalls, that's for sure. I am still really enjoying it though, despite being frequently frustrated. I am really looking forward to the editor being released and having a lot more buildings in the game.
