I feel like the city looks weird because the tallest buildings are kinda all line up at the back. You should mix it up a little bit and have some shorter buildings behind them. If that makes sense... D:
Yeah absolutely, I noticed that too - I need to get some more builds from the workshop to fill it out. I only have super tall and shorter ones, not really anything in between. It'll be an ongoing development for sure!
Hey flabs, I know that someone already mentioned this, but I'd highly recommend spacing the tall buildings out more in the skyline areas (both old and new) as buildings that large IRL would have quite a lot of "plaza" space around them, or take up entire city blocks, thus leaving the wide streets in between. Also, the housing near the central station near the beach should be upgraded to high density, and that would open up much more room for you to place skyline buildings. Also, the two large grey buildings in the main skyline area look very similar in design (probably by accident) and as such would look excellent if you placed them right next to each other as if they were sister buildings!
Trains are like airplanes. You use them to cross long distances. Subway and monorails are to keep a lot of traffic off densely populated streets. Buses and trams are to convey cims to the subway or monorails or to train stations, usually in smaller townships with low density. That is why trains are not being used as much.
You should space out your buildings. It is not very realistic to have big and tall buildings so close together. Also you should add parking around them, not a lot but a few. In NYC there are policies to not block out too much sun so buildings have to work around that. If you spread them out, it would look better.
I would like to see you develop the rural parts of the land a bit: some scattered villages, dispersed industry (mines, wood cutting, ...), tourist villages at the shoreline, .... just a thought. But nevertheless, I like watching your city building videos. Good stuff.
Your downtown area is too close together. In actuality city planning/zoning ordinances wouldn't allow them to be THAT close to one another. I also think compositionally it would look nicer with some space between the tallest buildings. Just a little architecture student opinion tho, no worries if you don't agree!!
In the UK we would call what you built a retail park. Also, Woolworths was a big UK thing too, but all of their shops have closed down in the last 10 years (although apparently they're being brought back).
Why (on the new area) is there never any residential along the beach/waterfront? It's always stores, tourism, or offices. Residential on the coast = higher land value, and more realistic
Flabaliki trying to figure out American malls and shopping centers was just hilarious. I didn't know they didn't do that type of stuff in Australia though.
Love the new building assets, they look much more brighter and nicer looking! Now we just gotta find a nice boardwalk amusement area for the beach and we'll be all set for that area
Those basketball courts are horrible in the middle of downtown...Just put a green space or park. You dont need to have an actual park you could just put some trees and a fountain or something.
1: Ooh, new Flabs vid 2: This makes me want to play C:S 3: Ooh new asset? 4: This author has a lot of cool stuff 5: He has a cool collection aswell 6: He has a RU-vid series too? 7: That was good, what's this on the right? *Rinse and Repeat*
The first 2/3 of the cities let's play is so nice. Love your city and I love how you now combined the last third of the video with another brick in the mall. Really missed the series ;P
Hey good video but your skyline that's in the new area is very unrealistic. It is just next to low level residential areas. In addition the buildings are all too close together which leaves no sight lines. Look at the city of Chicago for example. There are sections of taller buildings and the whole density of the city flows well between neighborhoods. Also you can always find sunlight.
Thanks for finally downloading new building assets but I'm not sure I like the way you placed them in the downtown area. I think that the First Canadian Place is a bit too tall and should maybe move it to the other side of the bay when (or if) you start building there along with the building directly across from the central station and make a sort of a 'second downtown' area and maybe make it a tourist area.
about the forest beneath the tall building you can make a nice pathway park that lead to the residential below get rid of the trees and make a nice Esplanade over aridge with fences and all the details :)
You could add a subway stop on the purple line in the commercial part of Robin Hills. The commercial area between the main roads. Too left corner area when looking from the ocean/river
Love it buddy, keep up the good work. I haven't really checked out the workshop, but what about getting some new Hospital and medical assets? Like you have a super modern trauma/teaching/everything and then you have like an older General Hospital type one. Just seeing the same Hospitals over and over again is kinda blah. Love this city!
I feel like the highway junctions would look more realistic if most of the elevated approach roads were stuck to the ground, even if they are like 10m in the air, and that only the section crossing the highway is elevated. You can ust smooth out the rough edges. This is actually what they do in real life, and it just gives it more of a realistic look EDIT: I also think you should use that Surface tool trick to remove the pavements from the highways.
Yo Flabs, you should make a big casino road - kinda like the strip in season 3 (ep. 5 i think) - and then fill the road with plaza's, casino's etc. Maybe even close to a waterfront! I think that would be so cool!!! love the series by the way :)
Hey James can you please go back to the warmer tone game look i really think it looked better then the cool tone you have in this episode cheers Buddy !!
That city looks so beautiful. I wish the Xbox one version of city skylines had mods and assets so I could make me city look at lest half as nice as yours
i really want him to get rid of that industrial area in the middle of the city, it is right on the canal, he should keep the entertainment district all the way up the canal, a nice place
Every time I build a city I come across the same problem (not enough workers and not enough educated workers) eventually all the buildings go abandoned and it takes too long to demolish them how can I fix this
