Citizen seems to be able to funky and functional as much at they can do tough and tooley. I would put my Promasters against any Seiko 5 any day but I understand we all love different things! Lately Citizen is showing the world that among the Japanese giants they have no reason to stand in Seiko's shadow. Have a good one my friend!

Great review, Tim! I recently purchased the Citizen Chronograph (CA4610-85m) based on these designs and really like it! Perfect watch for Summer and very interesting combination of comfort, design, and innovation. Citizen has been knocking it outta the park recently with its Automatics, Moonphase, and Titanium timepieces.

Citizen's Super Titanium is the best material for a watch, period. My ST has been used as a beater for 6 years now in tough environments, and it has hardly any marks on it. My other stainless & grade 5 Titanium watches would be wrecked.

I love the super titanium with eco-drive, just wish it came out with the Tiffany color one too.

You made me look, that's for sure. I have said for about two years that really I'd probably like to upgrade my (perceived to be) suboptimal (and very cheap) Citizen Chandler. To my mind, a solar movement makes sense. But where this would be a great opportunity for them likes of Scurfa or Swiss Watch Company, they have yet to put such movements in their watches, so chameleonic 'tough' beater (that's what I'd use it for) watches with well considered and versatile designs are still very thin on the ground. And RZE got close, but not quite with things like the Valour 38. I did not really consider the chances high that Citizen would market something that could be this elusive upgrade. So, yes, this made me look, but is this it? Right off the bat, this is a little large, especially for an integrated style, at 39.5. 37.5 would be less likely to get in the way when being active and out and about, as would be my use for a beater watch, so I'd like more dimensions and on wrist footage, please! With this case shape, I feel an important opportunity was missed by not adding some small level of crown guards. Are they important? Not that much, but at a sizable 39.5, more so. The side profile with the crown almost suggests the crown is slightly sunken, but looked at it head on, this seems to be severely limited if at all. I do welcome the presence of the day-date, just like my Chandler. Nothing secy about this but that's the point! It underlines, for me, the highly practical nature of the watch. I'm completely here for dial texture. The dial doesn't look great on my Chandler and I would have hopes that this masks its translucent nature better and hopefully is less rough around the day-date window. It's nice to be offered applied indices and a rather handsome set of hands too. While perhaps less overtly practical than arabics, the sizing of the hands is an improvement even if the seconds hand could have been a smidgen larger to extend beyond the minute hand touching the track. But, would it hit the markers (regrettably, my Chandler does not, and in a 350 list price watch, I'd consider that a must of care in putting them together, yet I doubt Citizen shares my concern). The Titanium is great, because this is an integrated bracelet watch. Yet, I wonder what the real weight and feel would be. My Chandler is small, on canvas, and stainless, only its regrettably sharp finishing and slightly off posture on the wrist give it away. Could this do (and sit better?) while retaining lightness? If there is an element of the design that would make one pause, for me it is that bracelet integration. It looks as if the bracelet is satin, the case is more coarsely brushed, and the integrated link on the case gets some polish. I'd love some live footage to make better sense of this. It could work, or it could look slightly clumsy in the finishing department. Naturally, this being integrated bracelet and an all active occasions piece, it needs to fit very well. So what they did with the clasps and adjustability of the links (they seem appropriately small) is paramount. Finally, I appreciate the choice of colours. In most instances I would have gravitated green, but I think I prefer the monotone of the faded orange, here. With not overbearing black accents and less shape contrast in the day-date wheels, I think this gets my preference (awaiting some live footage in different lighting).

Bought the CA4610-85M and its counterpart NJ0180-80H ❤. My 7th Citizen watch after offloading 3 Rolex! Its only Czapek+Citizen for now! Great review on the new Citizen!

Very nice watches. When looking into it, I saw they had an automatic option as well. Prefer the mechanical movement personally, although not sure about the dail layout.

If you didn't have a watch but needed one this could be the only one you need, day date and time solar powered. Looks good and as long as it gets some light now and then needs minimal intervention by the user. I'll probably stick with mechanicals though.

I am not sold on integrated bracelet watches. For one, they're all very angular designs and I prefer something with a little more curve and flow. Secondly, buying an integrated bracelet seems like the customers is purposely setting themselves up to be later screwed over by the high cost of proprietary bands, parts, replacement pieces. I do not understand this genre of watches.

Thank you for mentioning the Seiko 5 collection. I am looking to purchase my first decent quality watch and this collection of very aesthetic timepieces is also an attractive value imho. I really enjoy this channel because it features watches that an individual of modest means (i.e. moi) may acquire.

Not awful, and at that price, who cares if it gets scratched or ruined?

A bit too procey,my ecodrive cost £79 four years ago and that would mean a price increase of 100% every year to get anyware near the current price of this piece and for my taste this new design doesn't look as good as my E100-S006597 in steel............................................

It's very nice, but at 39.5mm, it's way too big for 2024 when most watches like this are starting to go smaller. We need a 34-36mm version of this or it will age quickly.

Would have preferred own footage of the watch, not just press photos.
