Today we swap in an Integra Type R brake master cylinder into my ek civic, a must have modification following the rear disk break conversion we just completed! Master Cylinder in video: 46100-ST7-L51
Oh man I came here because I was looking for a solid way to bleed my master but you’ve also shown me the perfect place to mount the Chase Bays valve in my kit. Duh! Flip the bracket! *facepalm Thanks for this video.
Civic ex and dx have the same brake booster ? (Same year 97) non abs. Love the color of that civic ek, kinda reminds me of the color on Honda Accords. I have a 97 civic ek with Porsche brakes and I was wondering why my brakes will sink in. I need a 15/16 or 1” like what you just did ! Thanks for the content, much appreciated!
Not even gonna lie... But I like all your content! Especially when it comes to these types of builds. You're very specific and your explanations are very simple. The camera angles are fantastic. And you get to the point real quick and get to business real quick. Couple of questions; 1) Would the ITR Master Cylinder work on my 1990 Integra LS? I've been researching it but no luck. I've ran into some Honda Threads but they turn out to be a debate. 2) I wanna hire you to be my mechanic, to help me build my JDM B16A from the Integra XSi. Where are you located? LOL
Currently I am too busy with my own project to be hired out 😂 I'm not to sure if the ITR master cylinder would work on a DA integra, it may require you to swap your brake booster as well
I’ve watched all your videos on the brake upgrade. Wonder if I would follow all these parts I need the same as I’m doing it on a del sol and wonder if this master cylinder would also work on my del sol. The del sol is pretty much a civic
Idk if I did leave a comment but holy shoot thank you for this video. So many conflicting answers in the forums. My 7/8 leaked where the booster is. So I replaced it with the 1in cause I saw it for sale for 115 with only 500miles. Fit perfectly. I do have to ask though. Do the brakes feel a tiny bit spongy? I bench bled and bled the whole system. The brakes work don't get me wrong but I thought they were going to feel stiff. It felt like little resistance om the pedal but the car still brakes good. I'll do some more testing maybe my lines are too old or something
Haven't road tested mine yet, but if you still have rubber lines instead of braided going to your calipers that can cause that. Double check your bleeding job to make sure you did it in the right sequence, it is a little tricky doing it by yourself. And yeah, at the end of the day, it's still a 90's car, the brakes won't be nearly as touchy as todays new cars. But that's ok, it helps with heel toe downshifting!
I am about to start my big brake upgrade on 99 civic lx sedan. Thanks for this video. One question. Do I need to upgrade my brake booster? You have the EX booster and I have the LX. Not sure if there is a difference
Hello im trying to do a rear disc brake convertion on my 1998 honda civic dx hatchback. Ive been trying to get an answer if that brake master cylinder if is just a bolt on with the two brake lines that comes off the cylinder. This is the only part im missing to start doing the convertion. Btw love your built!
Yep! It is really a simple install. Two nuts hold the master cylinder onto the studs coming out of the brake booster. Then it's just two hard lines (front and rear) that screw into the master cylinder
@@kraftingkarsjust to double check - the dx is the 13/16 Master cylinder - the itr 1in Master cylinder is a direct replacement correct- I am concerned about the brake hard lines not lining up
Seems like there is a difference, I'm not sure exactly what but the abs master cylinder is designed to work best with an abs module. Since my civic is non abs, I went with the integra type r master cylinder since it is also non abs, has a larger diameter piston, and all the bolt holes/flanges are in the same spot as the ex
@@kraftingkars thanks! I think this is where I'm confused. the ITR and GSR have the same part number for their brake master cylinder, but all GSRs have ABS. so confusing! anyway, thanks for the info!
With this setup are you still running a proportional valve? I see the front lines connected to the dual banjo fitting and rear is utilizing the chase bay 2 to 1 kit.
Yep, after disconnecting your lines, and bench bleeding your master cylinder, when you hook it all back up chances are there will be a little air in your lines from fluid spilling out, so I'd recommend bleeding your lines afterwards.
Great video, really informative! I just have on question and i can’t seem to get the answer. I have an EK civic and i want to swap in the 1” cylinder. On some forums I have read that it’s a simple swap but on other forums i read that the first port has a 12x1mm thread and the second port on the master cylinder has a 10x1mm thread, which means i have to reflare my brake lines. Is this true?
@@Dani.Burger my 97 civic doesn't have abs, and I don't believe the integra type r did either. jhpusa.com/products/honda-brake-master-cylinder-97-01-integra-type-r here is where I purchased mine! Great site and let's you track it!
mate I've upgraded my 13/16 brake booster and master cylinder to a 1 inch master cylinder and brake booster. But now I'm having brake Dragging issues. Once the brake fluid is hot the car will constantly brake by itself. My dx is non abs. Do you have any idea what could cause this? I have adjusted the pedal several times but the problem will persist
I found your video looking for an answer or reference to change the brake servo of a honda sedan to one of integra make that upgrade, would you recommend it?
@@SOILASS oh I gotcha, so I would recommend upgrading to an integra brake master cylinder for you! And you should not have to change your brake servo/brake booster! Your factory brake lines will need to be modified though since the ports on the integra master cylinder and an eg civic are different!
@@kraftingkars mention the brake booster because the OEM of my Civic is already failing and if I would change the brakebooster, master cylinder and the lines.
I have the stock booster for a 97 civic ex non abs, the stock master cylinder I has was 7/8", the new type r master cylinder installed in the video is 1"
@@kraftingkars holy shiz thank you I've been looking around everywhere for this answer thank you!! I have a leak by the brake booster and was like I'll just upgrade the master cylinder but had so much conflicting info on the forums. Thanks again
