Before the Big Man joined Dave for the interview, he & the late night band played From Small Things, an underrated Springsteen gem. RIP Big Man

Two of my all time favorites! Dave and the Big Man. I had the great fortune to see Clarence Clemons with the E Street Band live many times and he was a true force of nature and brought so much joy to millions.

The story actually goes that Mr. Clemons went to Maryland State College on both music and football scholarships. At 6' 4" and 240 pounds, he played as a lineman on the same college team as Art Shell and Emerson Boozer and attracted the attention of the Cleveland Browns, who offered him a trial. Clemons also tried out for the Dallas Cowboys. However, the day before that trial, he was involved in a serious car accident which effectively ended any plans for a career in the NFL

I saw Clarence and his band The Red Bank Rockers live at a very small club in the summer of 1982 or 1983. We had the front row center table and he stood over us as he played and his sweat dripped on to our table (and probably in to our pitcher of beer as well). I also saw him and the E Street Band with Springsteen live in 1980 and 1984.

I wonder if the saxophone is the only musical instrument invented in the U.S. Fascinating.

CC could actually 'talk' . I mean very few celebs....rocker, movie tars....-many arenèt good in the chair being interviewed. Some great e.g. Stallone and another was CLarence. I had no idea. And Letterman was respectful....maybe becuase he had Max Weinberg in the band :) Shrug....He had ABruceès drummer...heh.... He sounded very down to earth. Mentally well balanced peron. Such a shame we lost him back in 2011....his death...oddly and maybe ererily marked the 'decline of entertainment' I felt....e.g. big name tars retiring and pasing away one by one...though in late 2023 some big names 'came back' ...as if they were on a 10 year vacation....the ones sitll alive and till could work ...ARE :)Nice to see going on...a if uddenly thereès a 'reawakening tarting up...'...

He is not fully correct about the invention of the saxophone. It was invented by belgian Adolf Sax.

Dave he just said while I'm out with Bruce. You're not listening Dave. By the way how could you not like this guy? Engaging personality & consummate musician. And when he blows that phenomenal solo in Jungleland I'm completely speechless.
