With a dull or pushy horse it's important to uncover what the need is behind their behaviour and meet that need. These types of horses need to feel us and sense our energy and presence outside of ourselves in order to feel at peace in their world. When we can build presence and clarity in our interactions, the positive aspects of the space horse are revealed.
This video is a companion to our video "Dealing with a Nippy, Pushy Horse" further explaining the process of showing up for these horses that want to connect with us so deeply!

This is my horse also and every comment Josh makes in the video is so helpful and so true in understanding and working with a space horse. I am lucky to have a mind horse too so his comparison of the two different horses was very beneficial. This video is beautifully explained as someone else said and worth watching many times to really hear all the words of wisdom Josh gives. thank you Josh!

I’ve watched this video at least 5 times now and each time I get something of high value. I have a space horse and also want to be subtle and quiet, haha! It brings me to my knees on a regular basis. Josh’s insight sums up my experiences perfectly, which in turn helps me understand what’s happening and why. Thanks Josh!

A space horse- interesting characterization.
@JoshNicholAHorsemansPursuit
Yes, I try not to over generalize horse tendencies but have found it helpful to recognize the differences in them and how we can help them where they are at and from the place they tend to engage life.

Wow, this is my guy ! In one hand he's the sweetest, first to the gate, prefers people over horses kind of guy. But when in training and I ask him to move he'll stand there I can be increasing the intensity with the flag and he won't budge until I really lift it. Then I feel like a piece of crap 🙄 because he is so kind and I never want to break the trust we have.

My mare as well. My other is the opposite. Just a Josh explained in the video. We've made immense progress thanks to the mentorship program. Now I can actually feel my mare and we MOVE!

I totally understand, we so equate size and pressure with emotion. The challenge is that life has caused us to become small energetically to protect ourselves. So much of the work we are doing here to just doing our best to show up and let our horses feel us. It can look and seem like emotion because most of the time we are bigger its because we were mad and the pressure was an expression of it. But it the heart is to be clear it comes with a much different intention. Many horses do not need this but if they do we need to show up so they can feel us. If something isn't working we need to make a change for sure!

That is great to hear!

@@JoshNicholAHorsemansPursuit your absolutely right ! I think my guilt comes with the frustration I feel inside. I need to change my mindset and feel a positive loving energy ☺️ Thank you Josh.

@@JoshNicholAHorsemansPursuit Hi Josh - just found you and your level of awareness, understanding and sensitivity really resonate with me. I have a defensive gelding that I have been trying to have progress with for years. He can seem dull when I ask him to move, but I also think he has gotten really good at the standing still game. He is defensive so I try to approach with nothing in mind except to visit with him and talk with him. And then I need to be able to adjust his winter blanket, cinch him up, put his fly mask on or pick up his feet and he threatens me. He pins ears, throws his head at me, and will even threaten to bite and kick. He is 18 and I have had him since he is 2. No abusive treatment, lots of loving but I do get big in response to his threats. Large bodied Arabian with a level of anxiety under it all. I am now down to two horses as my older ones finally passed away and now he is getting extremely buddy sour. There is allot to unpack in this video and I plan to watch it again. I really like how you come from the place of meeting the needs of the horse while being clear enough, big enough to be understood by the horse. It is a delicate balance to ask with intention and not have the horse feel threatened. He sounds like a "space" horse. I have worked really hard to get through to him for so long and barely feel I have reached him. Sometimes when I coo to him, I visibly see him relax as if he did not know I was there to help him. I am a rather quiet and very gentle person - I feel I need to show more leadership and intention. Suggestions please...

This concept of 'space horse' is very true for what I see in my horse. Only thing is often times he 'talks back' with his teeth... meaning the way you are waving that flag in this video, my horse would be reaching out to bite it.
@JoshNicholAHorsemansPursuit
This video is focusing on activating our energy when we have dropped our sense of space. When a horse is demonstrating the types of behaviours you are talking about its much more about staying calm in your space and not getting into the argument with them. Stay clear in your space but do not pressure with any aid as this will trigger their defensiveness. Your calm energy needs to lead them into a relaxed state and whatever you focus your energy on will be their guide. It takes two to argue so don't get involved, just stay strong in your space but very calm and this is mostly done without an aid! Hopefully that makes sense!

@@JoshNicholAHorsemansPursuit So, how do you get your defensive resistant sticky horse that is good at standing still to move out without an aid?
