This is sort of why Reeve's Superman was the best. He didnt just hide his powers, he actively worked to make himself appear weak and timid. Showing how incredibly humble he was. Another superhuman feat.
@willharris7609

Reeve had a presence in both characters. Two separate and distinct personalities and he pulled them both off seamlessly. No other actor who played this role could do it. Pure genius.
@zimvader25
@zimvader25 5 лет назад
I know he's dead so it's mandatory for wannabe hipsters to proclaim him the best ever, but while he was good, Routh was equally as good portraying both characters. Smooth superman/clumsy clark. And in cavills defense the clumsy Clark character wasnt used because it wasnt necessary. They did away with the idiotic "he's wearing glasses so i cant recognize him as superman" routine. Louis knows all along.
@zpacify

@@zimvader25 Are you nuts? Brandon Routh was a bad actor. It was a poor imitation. Im sorry but tha's just the truth. Christopher Reeve was a great actor and was trained in thater. You should watch his SNL guesting. He's got the talent for comedy too as shown by his portrayal of Clark Kent. He's got great action comedy timing like Mr bean, Jackie Chan etc. Cavill was a great Superman too because he could act. But Routh was too green, his only other acting gig before Superman was in a Christina Aguilera music video. But he has improved through the years.

I bet Clark laughs to himself every night after work knowing he can troll an entire newspaper into believing he's just a nice guy from Kanas lol. There's a moment in the animated series where Lois acts how Clark always seems be at the same exact spots where the craziest action is. He straight up tells her he's superman and he likes being a reporter because it helps him hear about situations right away. She doesn't believe him and calls him "a sick man" lol. Like it says in that Crash Test Dummies song, Superman could've smashed through any bank he wanted and lived like a king, but he chose to live the humble life of a regular working stiff, to experience the same ups and downs of life that the rest of us do, and to use his powers only to help people. That's what makes him great - not his power but his heart.

Ahhhh Christopher Reeve... Brandon Routh, Dean Cain, Henry Cavill are all fine actors sufficiently good looking and well built to don Superman's tights. They all made fine Supermen. Frankly, I believe playing Superman isn't all too hard. But nailing Clark Kent in a believable way... THAT'S HARD ! Routh, Cavill and Cain's Clark Kent all look like Superman in glasses and pin-stripe suit, all the time. But Christopher Reeve's inflection and physicality in his portrayal of mild-mannered Clark Kent is , well, perfect. He effortlessly goes from "Gosh, Lois" and "Ghee whiz", "b-better give him what he want's"; to squaring his shoulders, imperceptible nod and readjusting his glasses and BAM he's obviously Superman ! Nobody did it better and I defy anyone to argue otherwise. Case in point: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ecyqI4P1zKs.html @ 3:15

One of the key things to understand about Superman is that Clark Kent is who he really is, that’s who he was raised as ,that the essence of what he is and what he’s about .A humble gentle compassionate overgrown Boy Scout from Kansas who cares little about personal gain . Superman is his alter ego who he becomes only when needed.The bumbling is an added touch to keep his secret.
